MrEWhite
Does anyone know how to get HDR working on PC? I've enabled it from the desktop, but there's no discernable effect in game with it toggled on or off, and taking a screenshot with Game Bar & examining the screenshot confirms it's just capping out at whatever I have my SDR Brightness set to in Windows. BS_BlackScout
It could be that it's doing the same as RDR. SDR content inside an HDR container. If you have an NVIDIA GPU you may be better off using RTX HDR, otherwise Windows AutoHDR. NightmanCometh96
I vividly remember the HDR toggle working properly in the day one release, at least on PC and PS5. It seems like it’s been broken ever since the first patch, which is odd because you’d think such a crucial issue would be brought up by a reputable source (e.g. PCGamingWiki) by now. It certainly doesn’t work on PS5 right now, so I imagine the option is still borked on all platforms. But yeah, since you’re on PC, you’re probably better off just forcing RTX HDR (or AutoHDR if you don’t have a newer NVIDIA GPU). EDIT: Someone on Reddit said that HDR is working properly on their PS5 as of the new update, so it might only be bugged on PC (and/or Xbox). HDR in both obviously have peaks at where ever you set your peak brightness to. Digital Foundry’s analysis video corroborated what @BS_BlackScout said about the game being SDR in an HDR container. Not saying it doesn’t look fine, but it seems the game’s HDR implementation isn’t perfect. On 11/17/2024 at 2:14 PM, BS_BlackScout said: It could be that it's doing the same as RDR. EDIT: I actually have used RenoDX with Arkham Knight. It looks fantastic, it's convincing enough that it's as if the game originally shipped with native HDR; so if that's anything to go by, it should do wonders with RDR1. Jason
I'm guessing by "container" they basically mean it's the SDR image running with a HDR "filter" on top or something, I've seen movies/tv do this as well. It'll look presentable on a HDR display and be fine, but properly done HDR is on another level. SDR in an HDR container means that the display is being fed an HDR signal, but no actual HDR is present, meaning your peak will only be as bright as SDR / paper white (spec'd at 80 nits, but it can vary. ~203 nits is common). For all intents and purposes it's not HDR at all, your TV will tell you it is but it doesn't look anything like HDR, fake or otherwise. I updated the PCGW to reflect its broken status. Hopefully it gets some attention and gets fixed. You can't even force it in the ini files, as is typical for UE4/5. mpq1671
You might also make it somewhat functional with: https://reshade.me/downloads/ReShade_Setup_6.4.0_Addon.exe and universal Unreal 4/5 add-on RenoDX: https://clshortfuse.github.io/renodx/renodx-unrealengine.addon64 Just in case their GitHub: https://github.com/clshortfuse/renodx/wiki/Mods Unreal Engine section. Just install reshade in GTA San Andreas - Definitive Edition\Gameface\Binaries\Win64, put add-on in the same place. Press home and adjust peak brightness and as of now, UI slider controls in-game brightness. Enjoy! Here's a fully functional RenoDX. All the credits go to ShortFuse! https://ko-fi.com/shortfuse @clshortfuse.bsky.social https://github.com/clshortfuse/renodx Just put THIS ADDON next to SanAndreas.exe (GTA San Andreas - Definitive Edition\Gameface\Binaries\Win64), install ReShade (with Add-on support variant), no shaders needed, ReShade's dxgi.dll is all you need. Press "home" and adjust everything to your liking Edited March 3 by mpq1671 NightmanCometh96 1 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/999563-gta-trilogy-de-hdr/#findComment-1072512910 Share on other sites
