Ex-DMA dev uploading original uncut and uncompressed GTA 2 music tracks onto YouTube?

Recommended Posts

This YouTube channel called 'Grand Theft Auto Tracks' has started uploading the uncompressed and uncut mixes for some of the GTA 2 songs. It is dystopian to actually be able to hear God Bless All The Universe in high quality, even the intro song is here in HQ. Some songs also have different mixes, or are longer than their in-game cuts. Like Southpark for instance has an intro that was cut from the in-game versions (an intro that confirms the song indeed was written about the animated show). They're also uncensored e.g Real Love by the Pussywillows features the line "I'll sniff your snatch", which was bleeped out in the in-game mixTheir descriptions also entail detailed production and songwriting credits, alongside lyrics (even original lyric drafts!). Some even feature small tidbits about the song's production that make me speculate this may be someone from DMA, or someone who has had contact with someone who worked at DMA.  This is really f*cking awesome, and not something I had on my 2024 bingo card. I implore anyone to back this stuff up before it's possibly lost.

It's also revealed Rockstar were considering calling GTA 2 "Grievous Bodily Harm" as a cheeky nod to the first game's name. This presumably would've been its theme song. Interesting stuff.

This is amazing.

If these music tracks do get taken down on YouTube, I hope they'll become officially available on other music platforms, like iTunes or Spotify.

Love the way he's posted all this info and then pointed at this YouTube channel that was just created yesterday under the guise of "someone just happened to post it too!"

Maybe the stars did align on that one. :yee:

Seriously, finally hearing these songs in HQ and at full length is fantastic, I never thought I'd see the day.

Crazy to see this and that they even kept the original masters, absolutely no other place to hear near-pristine masters of these. They sound so good still without all the 90's audio processing and the radio idents/talking.

Hearing some of the stuff from Funami FM in high quality is especially mad.

If it were an album I imagine the track with the bits of pieces of people condemning the game would be the intro

Yea probably. It reminds me of the way a lot of CD albums have done in the past. From memory, at least -

Any chance to see a “HQ Radio Mod” for GTA2 with these songs?

For anyone who doesn't know, the mysterious uploader has put up a folder on MEGA with the MP3 and FLAC uploads for most of the songs:

This is actually my dream come true. I'm so happy to hear "Toys Are Real" and "I Love This Feeling" in high quality ("I Love This Feeling" has been my ringtone since forever)

"Bulamatari - Taxi Driver" song is missing.

I was even more pleasantly surprised to see they were pretty much original 320kbps MP3 files dated 2002, alongside some 2009 remasters! I hadn't seen that MEGA link yet until I looked at the channel again and it's 👌 Obviously even better than YT quality.

Simply brilliant. Thank you for the tip. The quality is significantly better. I think I have some new songs for my commute. :D

Edit: It's a shame that "EZ Rollers - Short Change" isn't included.

This is amazing. I've been wanting to hear these songs like this forever. I just stumbled across "Toys Are Real - Flymutha" while compiling all the GTA music for my phone. This is such a treat!

God damn I completely missed this, hearing all these in Hi Fi feels like like I've pulled a massive ball of wax out of my ears.

Woah. If you really want to trip balls play G.B.H and Flymutha at the same time

You've got me curious, what timestamp did you sync them at?
