Well, here's the original X360 version running at 4K. While some elements do look dated, like the helpbox backgroung, overall it looks fine.

And I really doubt they have the high resolution master assets for the map, for example.

Does anyone know if the old vpn in Australia trick works to play the game "early"?

That's why there are no midnight releases. The game unlocks at the same moment for everyone across the whole world.

Speaking of the UI, I hope PlayStation button prompts are natively implemented from the get go. RDR2 technically has them, but only if you're using a DualShock 4; R* never updated the game to properly detect DualSense controllers. Normally, you think it'd be a forgone conclusion for RDR1, seeing as a previous PC release had PS icons; but from what I remember, the DE (which came out two years after RDR2 PC, by the way) only has Xbox prompts regardless of the controller you're using.

Also, the RGL really needs to be updated to natively support more non-Xbox controllers. There should be no reason in 2024 that you have to add the launcher as a "non-Steam" game or use DS4Windows to be able to use a DualSense with it. Ah well, just another reason to stick with Steam as the go-to storefront. EDIT: I'm so glad it's a day one Steam release this time around! Here's hoping R* does the same with VI.

The Switch version had some cool mods on gamebanana like option to remove effects like heat wave and dof and bloom, higher quality weapons wheels and being able to slow down or pause the game when in weapon wheel. I' not sure if the switch mod files can be straight on used on the PC version but if not hopefully we get similar mods on PC soon.

Just wondering if the UI is in 720P how would that look in a 4K resolution? Would the UI be very blurry and small or would the rest of the game be sharp and the UI be bigger cause it's 720P ?

Take a 720p image and resize it to a higher resolution. Broadly the same thing lol.

As others have said there's no rolling regional based launch, which is the only situation where this works. It does not work on Steam in general as Steam does not support rolling launches.

That will come with mods.

Game seems to unlock around 2PM-ish over here in the UK. Not too bad.

And considering my sleeping is f*cked rn I'll prob wake up around that time anyways :lmaokek:

I'm super excited to see how the game looks and feels at such high resolutions & frame rates. Can't wait! :)

They probably remake it and maybe they will use vector graphics instread rasterized

Dunno, I wouldn't expect assets to be different between the PS4/Switch ports and the PC version. The PS4 version also runs at 4K so...

Hey guys, in my case I'll only be able to buy it in December/January if I can, my only way is to have some "alternative" version come out beforehand so I can try it out or use that Steam method for 2 hours but I'm not going to risk it, maybe in some end promotion of the year I can

I'm going on adventures watching gameplay videos both on my PC configuration and on others and photos from you here on the forum until I can buy

Hopped on RDR 2 to do some dreamcatcher + dino bone hunting in the Epilogue.

Spoiler

Strikes me just how foreboding it feels to play as John after the credits roll. Like the final calm before the storm, the last few years of his life where he gets to live somewhat peacefully until he's picked up by the government.

Spoilered just in case there's still some people left that are playing this series via release order (highly unlikely on this forum, but you never know). Just really excited to play 1's story for the first time since finishing 2 a bunch. Gonna hit so different now. :starekek:

There's no harm in getting it on Steam. They're generally quite lenient with refunds, from my experience. Hell, I've been a little over the two hour mark before. If you request cause of technical issues, you'll be more than ok.

I think the "alternative" method is a good option, you can take it while waiting for some offer.

No, that only works for Microsoft Store games. And only for those which set release for local midnight.

Why Australia though if you could do New Zealand and play extra 2 hours early.

It is not a regional launch. Even those on New Zealand will play at the same time.

Im surprised RDR1 has this good physics.  LIke ragdolls and Npc reacting to how they been shot

With GTA4 and Max Payne 3, RDR1 is a game where the euphoria engine is used as a main feature.
Since GTA5, this isnt the case anymore. Most physics based stuff was replaces by pre canned animations in GTA5 and RDR2 (drunk walking, finishers etc.). For some reason, R* went away from using this tech to its full potential, toned it down to a rudimentary use and focused on other aspects... what a shame :(

I won't play the original because it was very expensive here in my country, but I will play with 🏴‍☠️

That's what I said above, here in our country the price is 1/3 of a minimum wage, it's impossible at the moment to buy just on a promotion or through other means, if you have one, we're in the same boat

Me to those who are complaining about no GTA VI second trailer for a year.

I do want to pick it up but I have things to play and £40 is a bit steep for me, so I'll be waiting for a sale I think, I'm not in a rush to play it but it'd cool to revisit it for some nostalgia.

In movies it's typical to have high res source material that's lowered down to fit consumer devices or digitally remastered due to the nature of analog film, but in gaming there's not really such a thing as "high res master assets". The in-game assets are modeled with the target detail already in mind since they cost man hours to manually create.
