Story of this company's life when it comes to dealing with their PC playerbase. They're piss poor communicators, and that's cute when we're all waiting for a game together regardless of platform. But from GTA V to RDR 2, and now GTA VI? Rockstar purposefully omitting any info on their PC versions is incredibly frustrating. Even if some of those ports (like V and VI) might genuinely take longer on a purely technical level; being more transparent about it is the least they can do.

The fact that PC is even bigger now than it was when V came out (and it was very sizeable even back then) makes it all so much worse. Lots of people got into GTA V through the PC version specifically. The game practically never leaves Steam's top sellers. The RP and streaming scene boomed big time, to the point where Rockstar themselves took note. But here we are, doing the same song and dance with VI now. Gonna have to borrow a PS5 with the game just to avoid getting spoiled, because all of Rockstar's games are virtually impossible to escape coverage on for months after launch, lmfao.

Even taking into account how technically-impressive their games are, it's honestly embarrassing that a company as big as Rockstar is still unable to manage a day one PC release. I'm not entirely ruling out that technical issues play a factor; game development is difficult after all. And R*'s PC versions have always had improvements over consoles, even in the pre-MP3 days when they were ports rather than bespoke builds. Granted, those older releases also tended to have broken or missing effects (e.g. SA's lighting), as well as gameplay issues (i.e. the games break to varying degrees the higher your frame rate goes. It wasn't until E&E and D11's RDR1 ports that problems like this were meaningfully addressed). However, the more time passes, the less I buy into technical hurdles being the main cause of their staggered release strategy (but again, I'm sure it's still a problem, given the scope of their games). Almost every other major developer in the industry can handle a simultaneous release across all platforms these days (optimized or not), but somehow R* is unable (or unwilling) to do so? Let alone for a port of a 14-year old-game?

At this point, I think there are just some stubborn old-heads in upper management that have an outdated mindset of PC versions simply not being "important" enough to justify releasing alongside their console counterparts. Before GTA V PC released, I remember reading a Glassdoor review where a R* employee mentioned that some of their coworkers even had an immature, fanboy-ish "consoles rule, PC sucks!" mentality (but it's also Glassdoor, so take it with a grain of salt at best). It's ironic (and again, outdated) when you realize just how much the PC gaming userbase has grown over the past decade, coupled with Xbox's dwindling hardware/software sales compared to PlayStation (that's not to say Microsoft's market share is "small", but I don't see things improving significantly for them this generation, never mind 10th Gen); yet here we are in 2024, and R* continues to behave as if its the early 2000s.

The poor communication is the worst part, though. It's something R* struggles with and needs to improve upon in general. We've been conditioned to expect their PC releases to come ~ a year after the console versions (regardless of the reasons behind said staggered releases). But like you said, the least they could do is be upfront for once and just admit that a PC version exists from the get go, and that more details will come at a later date. It's not like announcing something well before we get any concrete info is a foreign concept to R*, either. GTA VI itself was informally revealed to be in development in February 2022, almost two years before the trailer and official announcement in December 2023; I don't see why they can't do something similar for their PC releases.

I managed to do it with RDR2 but that's mostly cuz I didnt care about the game back then. All I kept hearing was how GOTY it was and all that but I didnt had a PS4 or a Xbox One or a good PC

Well, if I had the money I would buy RDR1, but I'll have to wait to get it on some promotion because it's very expensive, In 2019 I got excited and bought RDR2 on sale at Rockstar Launcher

Edit:

And also not to mention that I don't know if my PC will run well, only after that will I be sure to buy

Check my YT channel for day one review and testing. I'm gonna try to be one of, if not the first, to post a video about this version on YT BR. Cant compete with mfs like Davy Jones and BRKsEDU if they already got review codes tho... but I doubt, embargo for console version was on release day and Rockstar doesnt care about brazilian youtubers (which is weird cuz of how big their games are here, especially GTA, RDR and Bully, I figure Bully may be bigger on Brazil than in the USA)

The main issue for me is the fact that they don't even acknowledge PC.

If they announced the game as PS5 XBX Series X/S and PC a year later I'd be fine.

But right now they're pulling this disingenuous BS not even mentioning PC which is meant to FOMO people into buying the console version and then they'll buy the PC version when it comes out too, cause that's their preferred platform.

No other publisher acts this way towards PC audience anymore. It's such a shame Rockstar does that still...

By the way San Andreas turns 20 years old next week, and what? TDE still not updated for over 2 years on PC and consoles :sadkek:

Not that surprising in my opinion. I have a feeling R* won't even acknowledge it.

Whether they updated or not, they profited from it, it doesn't matter to them, it doesn't matter.

Oh, they will…

Spoiler

You will have your GTAO T-shirt and you will like it! Maybe even an Adversary Mode to go along with it. :sadkek:

I don't think there's even a shirt to celebrate the anniversary this time around. We're truly living in the worst timeline. :sadkek:

SteamDB still show movement on the main depot, and it is irregular movement, which means it aint some scheduled automatic update or whatever, it's actual people updating the depots

They added it once, then removed, then added it again lmao. No, don't expect Multiplayer. Obviously the classic oopsies striking again.

Just pray that they ship the game with usable / partly usable or re-implementable net code so modders could bring MP back.

Lmao that is user tags. The users themselves keep adding the tag and the devs removing it. Already happened 3 times I guess. Thats actually funny af

Lmao Double Eleven using RDR to promote their games

Yes, those tags on Steam are added by the users, nothing to do w/ the developers.

The best ppl can do is to pretend this version never existed

The worst part of DE is not its existence, but R* taking out the OG versions from Steam. I’m glad I got all 3 before they did that sh*tshow
