I just wish they'd let us swap between the original graphics and the new artstyle at the push of a button as the Tomb Raider remasters do it.

Halo did it first, rly cool for remasters

Was really hoping it would be a midnight release as I have uni lectures the next day ;-;

I rly hope there will be a pre-download

I don't know what kind of connection you have, but even in the 'almost worst case' where you still have a 7 Mbps connection, we're talking about 'only' 4 hours to download the 12 GB game, which isn't that bad.

The fact that it was deleted is a good indication it was posted before it was verified. A common habit from the so called reporters in the R* community.

Until it's confirmed by R* themselves, I'd expect it at Steam's traditional store update time which is 5pm GMT. Steam store releases are usually that or at midnight in my experience.

I thought so.

Would be kinda dumb if they don't roll out a pre-download.

They didn't do it for TDE remasters. The game is only 12 GB they might just skip the pre-load this time again.

It's not like DE had effort put to it, lmao. Seeing this is on Steam day 1 gives me hope for a pre-download, but yeah the size isn't that much of a problem.

!2 Gigs and I can drive my vintage car and truck with machine gun around the map with trainer, hehehe. Did that already previously in that 2023 port in emu. Then crashed to desktop with a smile on my face.

It's not just that. If there's no pre-download then everybody will download the game at the same time which makes it slower. Plus I gotta try to be one of the first in my country to cover this port on youtube

Yeah, pre-load's still a great idea regardless of the smaller file size. Spreading the (down)load is good, but it also won't take an eternity to unpack on lower end CPUs and drives. So you can pick whichever one is fastest for you, based on your DL speed and the aforementioned hardware.

Say all you want but GTA DE is kinda good nowadays.

If they include the Netflix fixes on console and PC I would 100% finally call them the Definitive Editions of those games.

The controls are way better, the optimization is way better since launch, it works out-of-the-box so no downloading modpack to have basic stuff working, etc. Plus it is available on modern consoles.

Purists may not like the graphics or art style but the truth is your average consumer will: search for GTA San Andreas on whatever store he's using, see this new Definitive Edition with nice graphics and buy it and not care at all about the issues unless ppl point it out and alienate him.

I also like GTA DE mainly due to the lack of good and crash-free graphical mods for GTA 3 and VC, they have never been so valued, people are based a lot on SA, if GTA SA is bad, the whole package is, that's annoying, I'm not very fan of GTA SA, I grew up playing GTA VC and VCMP on PC

Even Digital Foundry is among those saying not to get too worried about the specs; Alex is disappointed by the DX12 requirement, though. John seems fairly confident that the PC port will be great, given Double Eleven's previous work.

I'm not sure why it was removed. Both the Rockstar Store and the Epic Games Store metadata show the same release time: 3 PM GMT, or 11 AM EDT.

The pre-orders went live at the same time, 3 PM GMT. Rockstar also released the GTA Trilogy DE at that time, 3 PM GMT or 10 AM EST (at the time), without a midnight release rollout.

Like enhance textures or something

If this wasn't done on release, hard to believe it's going to be done after. And it'd definitely not be the sales pushing them to do it. More like demand tbh.

But in this specific case I think they made it low-key clear that they've somehow lost the original texture work / or that they never made higher quality variants for them?

Because otherwise fingers crossed they would have upped them and waay back, when they worked on the PS4 / Switch ports.

GTAIV on PC shipped with High res textures out of the box while more graphical settings for other stuff were added later. Such as water quality, reflection quality, shadow quality etc

If they're gonna pull a similar approach this time, I imagine it'd only happen in case there's a specific demand for more scalability for lower-end machines. But I'm sure that's not going to be an issue anyway. At best I could see them add Vulkan support (perhaps for native Linux support) but otherwise that'd be pretty useless I would say.

As for extra graphical settings, imo the things that would make most sense is giving options for Ambient Occlusion (HDAO, HBAO, they're all possible), giving more shadows (Grass shadows, particle shadows), and maybe some grass settings similar to GTAV, for more dense grass and maybe taller or thicker. Some ped variety and density settings would also be nice of course.

About shadows the best option they could add is PCSS filtering, on top of the existing shadow quality settings they've advertised,  but judging by screenshots and the trailer I don't think they implemented that, just softer shadows which is better than the PS4 ports anyway. I have a hard time believing they'd do anything past the release tbh, related to graphics. Patches with other fixes of course are inevitable.

I would have expected RDR1.exe more tbh, but yeah doesn't really matter I guess lol.

PlayRDR.exe is likely not the main one either, if we judge based on the other games / releases. RDR.exe as the main one then... and PlayRDR.exe for the launcher stuffs.

5 PM CET. Aw man. I feel like midnight releases are becoming so rare in my timezone.

Remember Europe sets clocks back one hour in 2 weeks. Does this unlock time consider that? USA changes time a week later on November 3.

The textures thing really sticks out to me. Even considering this isn't marketed as a remaster, other PC ports of its type (from the same era) typically had major texture improvements at launch, if not soon after.

Thinking about how muddy and icky the 360/PS3 GTA V textures looked (particularly the ground in grassy/mountainous areas), next to the substantial improvements even just the PS4 and XB1 ports brought a year later. I'm not the type of person to eye-f*ck a street or wall texture for 15 minutes, but I feel like there's a minimum level of fidelity that I'm used to nowadays, just enough that I don't notice when something looks jarringly smudged.

I can live with it though. RDR's overall visual style still has its charm to me, particularly the daytime lighting and the sheer atmosphere in Mexico. God, I cannot wait to go back there again.

I just hope it doesn't require AVX2 like God of War Ragnarok or my PC won't run, so I'll wait for a "jack" version before buying in some end of year promotion

It has Buldozer CPU (FX-9590) from AMD in minimum requirements, and I'm pretty sure that they don't support AVX2 instructions.

Yeah, it's 2013 CPU and first AVX2 CPU's from AMD came out in 2015.

Hopefully we get some good re-texture mods pretty soon after it gets released. Someone will definitely try an AI upscale but those can be very hit or miss.

I think on newer versions of reshade you can change it so it's not just a filter on top of the game e,g depth of field doesn't blur out hud elements, Ambient occlusion doesn't show as black lines through fog and smoke. That will be one way to add some missing graphical features.

Not trying to force you to do anything... but just in case you dont know... you're able to play 2 hours of a game and still ask for a refund on Steam

Those pesky complex architectures like powerpc or STI Cell are history for good and with GTA 6 coming on ps5, I wonder how much will there be differences in everything, not to mention a new game for next Steam Deck ps6 with some giant leap in tech.

For Marston.

iirc RDR2 did use some of the RDR1 textures in higher res

and some could probably be re-used without much issue

like stuff that wasn´t reall changed

like gaptooth ridge might still use pretty much the same textures

doesn´t hurt to try then

Depends what platform and region of course but EGS download speeds will be fine, it'll sell very few copies on there. RGL I can't speak for, but Steam?

Steam has handled some of the biggest game launches in recent years without breaking a sweat lol. A patch for the biggest games on Steam is a blip on the entire world's internet usage. It's bonkers how much traffic goes through Steam without people noticing.
