That Time GTA 2 predicted the future

GTA II is set...uh...

The manual puts it '3 weeks into the future'(So Mid November 1999, exact day depends on how you define 'week), but the website and specifically those weird lore journals put it at 2013. In-game has a bit for both.

Let's go with the latter though, November 2013.

This game has a lot of crazy future ideas. Massive Mad Cow outbreaks, Chocolate that gets you off, Hare Krishna going militarized just as George Carlin said they would, punk not being dead.

And then there's this line on Head Radio.

"This is Jill Tasker with your International News: Riots on the streets today in Crimea, Russian community hit the streets. More details with Bill Tasker after the break"

Note the international news bit. This isn't 'Krimea', Anywhere City. This is Crimea. In November 2013.

November 2013 is when the f*cking Euromaiden started, and with it came large Pro-Russian counterprotests throughout the south-east, most notably in...Crimea.

Simpsons has that '9 dollars twin towers' scene.  South Park has Jared being a pedophile. Family Guy has The Woman Formerly Known as Bruce Jenner.

But GTA? GTA f*cking predicted Crimea.
