finished the game recently for the anniversary

this might be a long post but I recently started a new game and completed it the day of the anniversary on apr 29. to see if “rose tinted glasses” so to speak gave me a distorted view and memory of the game. I can gladly confirm that that wasnt the case at all. grand theft auto 4 even to this day is such an amazing experience and technical feat. Sluggish controls aside, my playthrough was very enjoyable. Even the missions most people call repetitive I enjoyed. The combat is still as visceral as I remember it being and the physics ofcourse are still very impressive albeit over exaggerated. I forgot how great a character Niko was and how likeable him and most of the main cast are. my favorites being him, Jacob, packie, ray, Gerald, Roman, and Francis. Even the characters that are complete assholes have a weird charm to them that just makes you love em. The city itself is just as enthralling as it was back then. so many places to accidentally stumble across and lots of fun places to get into shootouts. I found myself liking Alderney more this go than I did back then. I found it pointless and boring back then. Now it’s one of my favorite 3 boroughs throughout the game behind broker and Algonquin. unpopular opinion but I love the driving physics. I love how it requires skill and that there’s a learning curve to master it. Makes it that much more satisfying once u do. I love how not every single car feels the same and how a truck and a minicar feels like they don’t weigh the same  

 

I played it on Xbox series s btw. Currently in school and not much of a gamer as I used to be but I still had a great experience with it. Next up is the episodes dlc. Really looking forward to it. Happy birthday to one of my favorite games. Such a shame we might never get a game like it again. But I’m glad I can always go back and enjoy it like it’s my first time playing.
