CamionneurCommuniste
Why is every lane in and around the game's equivalent of Times Square a fire or bus only lane? Where are the cars supposed to drive? Like of course all the AI drive in these lanes. They're not put realistically at all. There was a four lane street near there and it had two lanes on one side and one said "bus lane" the other said it was a fire lane, how does that make sense and I think it was the same for the other half of the road too. This road goes around the Central Park as well. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/996564-weird-bus-and-fire-lanes/ Share on other sites
cant remember
Anyone from NYC can shed some light on how fire lanes are supposed to work IRL? Even the picture of a fire lane on Wikipedia has traffic driving on it. EDIT: I looked on streetview and there I just see cars on the fire and bus lanes too, so I guess it's somewhat accurate Edited April 10, 2024 by cant remember Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/996564-weird-bus-and-fire-lanes/#findComment-1072367670 Share on other sites

Bus lanes literally exist to get buses out of traffic. Lets say you have a 6 lane street, two of those could be bus lanes running either direction, or one could be a fire lane. You don't have all the lanes on a 4 lane street be reserved for buses and emergency vehicles. CamionneurCommuniste
New York City Department Of Transportation" Bus lanes are travel lanes that are restricted to buses during certain hours of the day. All bus lanes have signs posted along the route with specific regulations; lanes are marked "Bus Only" and/or painted red. Bus lanes keep buses from getting stuck in traffic, making travel for bus riders fast and reliable and improving the overall traffic flow of a corridor. Click here to download the Bus Lanes in NYC brochure (pdf) There are two types of bus lanes. A curbside bus lane is a travel lane for buses at the curb. Parking and standing at the curb are not permitted during the hours the bus lane is in effect. An offset bus lane is a travel lane for buses one lane away from the curb. This makes parking or standing at the curb still possible. Double parking, or stopping of any kind, is not permitted in an offset bus lane. Unauthorized vehicles may enter a bus lane only to make a right turn at the next city street, to access a curb cut or driveway within 200’, or to quickly drop off or pick up passengers." "Police Enforcement The New York Police Department regularly patrols bus lanes, and issues both moving violations and parking violations to bus lane violators. New York City Transit workers can also enforce bus lanes." "If you drive, park, or stand in a bus lane during hours of operation you face fines ranging from $50 to $250. Bus Lane Cameras. New York State has authorized the City of New York to place cameras along bus lanes to catch violators on selected corridors." You probably already know this though, this is about bus lanes and should be relatively common knowledge, now fire lanes, I couldn't find much on because most are curbside, so I found it's illegal to park on them. cant remember
The markings on the roads are also generally very faded to the point of being nearly illegible in NYC, maybe that has something also to do with so many cars driving on them? In GTA4 certainly the lanes are just for show and AI doesn't care at all.
