Far into the future, will the GTA series be considered humanity's first simulation of our world?

I do believe that, far into the future, computational technology will be so advanced that we will create a simulation of our own universe, and we may in-turn realize that we are in a simulated universe ourselves (kind of like that one episode of Rick & Morty, The Ricks Must Be Crazy). That aside, once our technology advances to such a stage, I'm sure the history books will reflect on the long road that humanity took to get to that point. I wonder if the GTA series will be considered humanity's first attempt at simulating our own world? As the series has progressed, more and more "simulation" elements have become the pillars of the games' designs. The AI has become more complex in the way that it behaves and reacts to player input, and the game world itself has become more and more realistic and representative of our actual world. 100 years from now, who knows how in-depth the GTA series will have become but I bet it'll be crazy by today's standards. I believe though that what GTA is now may be the groundwork for true universe/Earth simulations that are to come in the future.

What do you guys think?

The Journey

It’s crazy how in depth the GTA world is tho. Parodies of cities, car brands, fast food restaurants, the internet (in IV/V, it’ll be even crazier in VI), you name it.

cant remember

I feel this is what MS Flight Simulator has somewhat become for flying games. What it doesn't have in funny random encounters it makes up for in sheer scale, the entire world in 1:1 scale made with satellite imagery and in some places photogammetry. It also has VR support and it's pretty darn convincing as long as you stay in the plane and don't try to drive a car with mods.

A GTA game with such a large world where you can truly get lost in endless suburbs is a wet dream of mine. Perhaps there will be one shared model of the entire world and all games will make use of it, so new episodes/stories/games can come out in immense worlds without the budget constraints of building the map.

I feel like we're giving Grand Theft Auto a little too much credit here lol. Other games had "living breathing worlds" that were absolutely mind blowing at the time. Super Mario 64 in a sense was the game that made Grand Theft Auto possible to begin with, and the Zelda games released way back in the day had lots of depth for the time. The original release of The Sims also came out in 2000, and SimCity existed before it.

I do remember playing both GTA III and Vice City back in 2002 as a kid and being absolutely mind blown with how "real" those games felt. I thought it was a legit life simulator lol.
