[The Journey]

Set in 2003 HD Liberty City with Ray Boccino as the protagonist.

 

Grand Theft Auto: To Live & Die in Liberty

Part 1

 

2008

This song plays as an older, powerful Ray Boccino is riding in the back of his car with his goons. After it is sprayed by bullets, he jumps out of the car and breathes his last breath as the camera zooms out.

 

“How did I get here? Bad luck I guess.” Echoes as we go back in time…

 

2003

Ray sits across from his therapist, Dr. Theresa DeLuca, at her office in Westdyke

 

“So, what do you do for work, Ray?”

 

“Oh, uh, I work at my ma’s restaurant”

 

Cut to earlier that day, outside Drusilla’s restaurant in Little Italy, Algonquin. Ray sits outside with a bag of “stuff”, he sees a rough looking guy, definitely not the delivery man, put an envelope in front of the door. He puts the “stuff” underneath a trash bin across the street, then he collects the envelope. Cash.

 

Back with the therapist:

 

“I understand, your mother told me she wanted you to leave a life of crime?”, Dr. Theresa said

 

“Yeah, it’s totally legit”, Ray replied

 

“Good… I was also told your father passed away a couple months ago, how have you been taking it?”

 

“Uh, it’s been tough, I guess”, Ray says emotionless

 

“I feel you’re hiding something from me”, Dr. Theresa replies “I’m here to support you”

 

“Well, I wish I could explain further, but I think my hours up and I don’t want to use up too much of my cash. Ciao, been a pleasure.” Ray said, heading out the door before Dr. Theresa could even say anything else.

Later, that night

Ray drives up Jimmy Pegorino’s driveway in his white Futo. He’s greeted by Jimmy’s son Dominic, just a few years younger than him - 22, fixing his car, a beat up Uranus, outside.

 

“Hey Ray, been awhile, how’s things been since.. y’know.” Dominic says

 

“Don’t worry about it Dom, where’s Peg?” Ray replies

 

“Oh, I’ll get him. Dad!”, Dominic yells, Jimmy runs outside “Jesus Dom! Trying to wake up the whole neighborhood you idiot?”, he yells

 

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry”, Dom replies, “you can take that sorry and stick it up your ass, now get out of here” Jimmy says as Dom walks back in the house.

 

“Ray, how’s Drusilla?”, Jimmy asks, focusing his attention on Ray

 

“Ma’s doing fine boss, here’s your payment”, Ray replies, giving a wad of cash to Ray

 

As Ray is about to walk back to his car, Jimmy pulls him aside, “Wait, the way your old man went, he went out like a real man, a true earner!”, “Whatever you say”, Ray replies, 

 

“Ray, I’m giving you an opportunity here, Tony’s gone, and now.. now, you’re the man of your family, remember your ma’s restaurant still needs protection from them f*ckin’ Ancelotti’s. We got our men, we got Gravelli’s backup.”

 

“I been hustling for years boss, behind my father’s back, behind my mother’s back, they both always wanted me to go straight. If you’re telling me to keep doing what I been doing since I was 12, that’s what I’m good at.” Ray replies

 

“Good, great. We will reach the top Ray. I’m gonna give you a friend of mine’s number. Name’s Phil Bell. Go meet him tomorrow morning, the Irishman will get you in contact with some Irish picks out in Dukes. I need you to put in some more work.”, Jimmy says as he writes a number on a piece of paper. “Prove your loyalty, you know”

 

“What kind of.. Nevermind, I think I get it.” Ray replies, getting into his car. “Good. Arrivederci”, Jimmy says as Ray drives away. 

 

“Dominic, you f*ckwit, take the garbage out and get that piece of sh*t out of my driveway before I beat your f*ckin’ ass!” Jimmy yells as he walks back in his house.

I had in mind something similar recently about LC in 2004, HD Universe, with Italian mobsters etc. that would include also Philadelphia and Palermo, Italy. I had in mind the name "Occhi Per Occhi" [= "Eyes for Eyes" in Italian].

 

Nice to see something like this - and weird that we didn't already have such a concept.

Part 2

 

Ray wakes up at his apartment in Alderney City next to his girlfriend Monica Rossi. “Baby, where you going?”, Monica asks while Ray gets ready, “and why are you dressed like that?”

 

“Work, uh, there’s a bunch of rich assholes comin’ to the restaurant today. Gotta make a good impression” Ray says as he leaves the door.

 

Ray gets in his white Futo and drives down to Fort Tudor. It’s a foggy morning and you can hear the sound of ships in the river. Ray walks into Phil’s office by the docks.

 

“You Ray?” Phil asks while Ray walks in the door, “Yeah” Ray replies, “your father was a good friend of mine, kinda, I mean we had our issues here and there but Tony was a solid man, Ray”

 

Ray nods and Phil gets up and goes by his radio before making a call, “Gerry, I’m sending someone to meet you guys, you remember what Gravelli is asking today? - Okay good - Ciao, bye.”

 

“Ray, I need you to meet up with these boys, the McReary’s they call them - big guys back in the day, now they do some work here and there for the Gambetti’s and by association, us.” Phil says, “Got it” Ray says as he’s leaving, “I’ll send you the address” Phil says as he walks out the door.

 

Dukes

Ray makes the long drive across the city to the McReary residence in Meadows Park and knocks on the door, Gerry answers.

 

“So you’re the new gu*nea lackey we’re working with today huh?” Gerry asks, “yeah mickey, thanks for the nice welcome, what are we doing today anyway” Ray says as he walks in.

 

“Word is Gravelli is asking us to pick up a shipment down in Broker, all goods for the Ancelotti’s” Gerry says “this is my brother, Patrick”, “Packie” Packie says in an annoyed tone “why are we doing this sh*t anyways Gerry, for a bunch of guido Italians?”

 

“Ey, watch your mouth m*ck”, Ray says, “we need the money Packie”, Gerry says, “anyway, we can exchange some more pleasantries later, Packie you go with this Ray guy, I’ll be there in a bit to keep a lookout”

 

“Great I gotta work with this prick” Ray says under his tongue as they get in the car. They get in the car and Packie starts up a conversation.

 

“So, this Phil Bell guy, ain’t he Irish?” Packie says, “I think, why?” Ray replies, “kind of weird he’s trying to be a gu*nea, eh?”

 

“Oh, maddone, you keep being an asshole I’m gonna have to hurt you Packie”, Packie replies “sorry, sorry, I was just asking a question”

 

“I dunno, west of the West River everyone wants to be like us I guess, don’t take it personal”, Ray says

 

They make their way down the on their way to Broker, “I hear your dad was a real player out there, ‘Tony Boccino’, my old man knew him back in the day, but he’s burning in Hell too. How’d your old man kick it anyway?”

 

Ray: “I don’t know. Heard the feds caught up to him, went out in a blaze of ‘glory’ like a ‘real man’. I guess he figured hell was a better place than prison” “yours?”

 

Packie: “He killed himself, the sick bastard, my brother Gerry you just met found him hanging in the basement a few years ago.”

 

Ray: “oh, Jesus, sorry ‘bout that”

 

Packie: “don’t be, he was a raging alcoholic, and worse too but I rather not talk about it.”

 

“For a m*ck to call another m*ck an alcoholic, must’ve been really bad” Ray says laughing

 

Packie: “f*ck you, gu*nea. We’re here, let’s do this.”

 

Ray and Packie arrive to a warehouse on the docks in Broker, waiting for their signal from Gerry to go. Packie gets a call, “alright, it’s time” he says to Ray. Just then, a white truck pulls up to the lot and the two walk out of the car to walk up to it.

 

“Hey, what are you assholes doing here? I wasn’t expecting no visitors.” The driver says, just then Ray pulls him out of the truck and Packie knocks him out, “sorry” he says sarcastically, “let’s get out of here Ray”

 

Packie gets off the phone with Gerry while they drive away, “we’re dropping it off at a warehouse up by the ol’ Saint Mark’s near Schottler” Packie says, just then a car speeds by and starts shooting at the truck

 

“Looks like we got company” Ray says

Oh cool, this takes place close to ‘04, starts around late October 2003.
