Problem in the Caligula’s mission (Definitive Edition, Switch)

Recommended Posts

So, in the mission Breaking the Bank at Caligula’s, I get in, kill mafia people, but the problem is when the Triads open the safe, it isn’t even opened! It’s still closed for some reason. This means I cannot play the mission properly.

if someone can please help, thanks,

P.S.: Should I have reached Rockstar Support before this?

This sounds like an issue that occurred when mobile users used checkpoint saves during the mission. Does DE still use checkpoint saves?

Try reverting to a save from before attempting the mission.

I didn’t save before the heist, so I instead used an auto-save from the Definitve Edition, which starts in the first cutscene of the heist (yes, it still uses checkpoint saves).

And I get very bad news. I tried reverting to that auto-save, and it still doesn’t open! I contacted Rockstar Support! I reset my account cache (I think), and I will have to use another system or another Switch! From what I know, the safe does open some times, but I think that has to take some kind of luck.

if my only choice is creating a whole new game, there are the missions that I didn’t like! Don’t even get me started on Zero. Learning to Fly, and the heist was already gonna be hard if no safe was opened.

I suspect that when you used a checkpoint save that the game forgot about the previous vault door and created another. When you attempt the mission the new vault door works correctly but you are blocked by the old door, and there's nothing you can do about it in-game. Rockstar support is unlikely to be of any help. This has been an issue with several missions since mobile was released.

Options:

  • Revert to a save from before attempting the heist mission.
  • Start a new game and keep regular backups with previous saves so you can revert if necessary.
  • If playing on PC, you might be able to download a save with similar progress by browsing the DE save files on GTASnP.com and continue playing.
  • Upload your save to GTASnP.com and post the link here. The tools I use to work with PC/PS2/mobile save don't work with DE version save files but I might be able to poke around and confirm the extra vault door. I'm not sure if I can repair the save; deleting objects with a hex editor is tricky but I might be able to mark unwanted vault door(s) as destroyed.
