Map Expansions?

Recommended Posts

This is the last GTA game for the next 10-15 years at minimum. And the leaks and early development was code named "Project Americas", so I wouldn't be too surprised if over the course of it's lifecycle we see different map additions or expansions.

I think it may even be better to save the other states for other games, I would feel shorted if they put a bunch of work into making a detailed Atlanta or New Orleans and then they try to make it fit into the story why you would go there. Atlanta and New Orleans are also very good candidates for their own game, so i think if we get expansions it should be the South American and Caribbean islands

idk man, but I would like to see more than one map per ten years. Theres so much other states better to save for other games that without map expansions you maybe gonna see 3 of them in rest of your lifetime.

Europe and countries like Australia or Japan are too civilized for interesting GTA game and I would see them only If GTA made a twist into something RDR 2 like serious but in modern times.

I believe we’re getting Liberty City in a shape of form in VI. Why? The leaks in 2016/2017 from @Tez2 and few others that were getting  LC in GTAV. The Middle Park screenshot in V’s graphics.

but nothing happend. R* probably saved it for GTA6. As End game map to visit, expansion  for Online or few visits in single player like Guarma and North Yankton.
They surprised us with New Austin in RDR2.

imagine the contrast between paradise city like VC and a dark gritty city as LC

a man can dream

Only problem I see with that post is that Liberty City doesnt only need a graphical overhaul, it would need some bigger expansion. Vice City seems to be massive, the city itself looks like it might be double the size of Los Santos or even more than that. Liberty City would just be funny small if it wasn't rescaled and redone from ground up so if anything they saved the idea for us to not burn down with it too quickly and not the map itself.

I live in Toronto (Canada) and in the past couple of months I have seen people set on fire and stabbed on public transit, homeless encampments explode and burn down, mass SUV robberies and dock exporting, high end store robberies in broad daylight, our mayor step down for having an affair with a much younger cabinet member, fleets of heritage buildings and shopping malls becoming construction sites for condos only the 1 percenters could afford, I could go on forever. Mind you, people do see us as a rip off of New York or associate certain Canadian cities with America just because of this kind of stuff happening there, but I think a GTA game could work here.

Totally agree, but perhaps if they focused less on expanding this game they could get to work sooner on the next one to deliver a better experience and story. Ideally I think the next online and the story mode should get 3-4 years full support and then start waning, GTAOnline had an incredible and surprisingly long run but I don't feel the need to have to do that again (even if they just might do exactly that).

Average European dummy mistake, forgot that Canada is not the same thing and I didn't mention it separately 💀. I dont doubt anything you said, I had this polish guy I was playing Escape From Tarkov with, he lived in Mississauga and was telling me about the stuff that was hapenning there.

Rockstar must add other states to GTA 6 Online or it will get boring too fast. Look at Fortnite, it's map got like 10 times bigger in 5 years from 2018 to 2023. It is getting ridiculous to play on the same map for 12 years. Cayo Perico Heist was a breath of fresh air, still the best GTA 5 Online DLC in my opinion. And I don't think it's too far fetched, Rockstar already did something similiar with RDR2, adding whole new 5 states to the game.

Honestly I want Rockstar to unite RDR and HD GTA universes and make like a constantly expanding big Rockstar universe. Imagine if we could travel to Guarma in GTA 6 Online.

On the one hand, I'm more relieved to know that Rockstar has always planned, in practically all GTA's of the 3D and HD era (GTA3, GTA4 and GTAV from what we know so far), one or two expansions. On the other hand, she was blind when Online exploded in success and without thinking definitively abandoned V's single player in favor of multiplayer content to this day. Times are different and we are unlikely to have an Online 2.0 that explodes as much as the old one (I hope🤞).

This gives us players the opportunity to receive a single player expansion or two.

maybe with a gta 6 map expansion we can finally see Carcer City (detroit)? A city like detroit doesnt have the name and glamour to be the sole map to host a gta game, so it being a secondary city with a completely different vibe from sunny and wealthy vice city to polluted and slums like detroit would be great for the game.

if they want to go for a similar vibe, maybe bring back cottonmouth/saint denis (new orleans), or even more south america. Since we know for 100% fact it was originally planned but scrapped, i think this is the most likely since work has already been done developing a south american city, and it would be really cool being outside of the US and would feel so different.

Liberty city would be cool since 2025+ New york is very different to 2008 NY, so seeing the new buildings would be cool but that would be the easy way out. I rather them make something new and unseen (at least in HD universe) than reusing maps, but i would definitley rather reused maps than nothing at all...

Idk why ppl think Carcer City is in Detroit its likely Philly/Camden and Cottonmouth isnt New Orleans it probably either Atlanta or Tampa Bay. If they do LC again they can expand the map like the original plan for GTAIV which was Liberty State.

It's very difficult to answer. If Rockstar decides to implement cities in GTA VI, what about GTA 7?

I've read some suggestions about Detroit and Chicago. As a Frenchman, I'm not very familiar with these cities, but I am aware of Detroit's decline, marked by problems such as bankruptcy, drugs and the presence of gangs. Despite this, I think it would be a good idea for GTA to explore these cities. What's more, their proximity to the mountains could offer some interesting perspectives.

It's essential not to remain stuck in nostalgia and to venture into new destinations.

If GTA ONLINE 2 doesn’t explode the way you’re hoping it won’t, I thoroughly believe any SP expansion will be dead in the water.

Atlanta must be at or near the very top of Rockstar's list for GTA 7 or maybe even a map expansion right now because of how crazy it has been growing in real life, and yet somehow nobody seems to be recognizing that. It's one of the fastest growing regions in America along with Florida and Texas, the culture there is extremely unique especially for a crime-oriented series. I can't think of a better city to do after Vice, because all of the rust belt cities (Chicago/Detroit/Philly) are dying out in real life while ATL is thriving more than it ever has in history.

MuffinMcFluffin

Kind of unrelated, but is there anything from the trailer for us to indicate that the map will have locked portions from the start?

And kind of like RDR 2 has Mexico's land built in (of course from the first game), do you think that map expansion will be hinted at by locked away, viewable land from the jump? Or will water suddenly poof into new cities when they add them?

I'm assuming with so many flight options that it's the latter, but I think that would also be a bit offputting and fake-feeling when we do get it.

Here's to hoping we get some before the PC version comes out, and that's by no means a comment on hoping the PC version takes years to come out.

Not too sure Las Venturas even canonically exists within the state of San Andreas anymore. But it would make for a cool sequel location, yes. I think a GTA6 map expansion should at least geologically close.

As far as I know San Andreas is California and Nevada.

with 10-15 years between titles it’s not even worth the wait honestly. I’d rather they do the map expansions as an addition to GTA VI than having to wait until I’m 45 years old to see another GTA game

I think the wait would be less than 10 years between games if we invested less in post launch support, imagine if they sunset GTA online after RDR2 came out, the whole team could immediately get right to work on GTA6, and should covid not have shut the world down then it might be possible that we could have had it early next year if not already. The way I see it is the longer we spend on adding things to this game is the longer we wont see the next one, but i digress, if they can come up with compelling new stories to tell and things to do alongside these expansions then I suppose it's similar enough to another game.

I disagree, games like red dead 2 and gta VI take that long to develop either way, and post launch support doesn’t really effect mainline development, other than giving the team the time and leeway to develop titles at the speed they see fit. It’s the nature if the beast, they want these grand illustrious titles that last forever. Games like GTA VI and RDR2 cannot be made from the ground up top to bottom as detailed as they are and be ready for the market all in the span of 3-4 years. It’s just not possible. It’s gonna take them at least 8 years a pop, which is is why I’d be in favor of staggered releases and continuous SIGNIFICANT expansions (story/cities/big sh*t)

Liberty City would be a safe bet, considering they already have an HD rendition of the city. All they have to do is update the details to fit the 2025 setting.

I might be wrong, but I think the code development itself takes the most time, and you can't speed it up just by hiring a lot of new workers. They might end up getting in each other's way instead of helping. Especially since training new people would take a few years at least.

Maps are basically just a bunch of 3D assets. I believe that adding more people to work on assets could make things go faster without slowing down other ongoing game developments. This could mean getting maps out more quickly compared to the time it takes to make a whole new GTA game (with a map expansion every two years).

Of course theres designers and testing required for that too but I believe most time would go into 3D Assets to be made.

Eh i really wouldn’t like them to reuse the version of LC they already got. But i guess with R* you can’t be picky and it’s better than nothing 😅

By HD rendition I assume what's meant is that it's in the HD continuity, but it doesn't really help much. If they decided to keep the layout exactly the same, that could save some time, but all the assets would still need to basically be made from scratch at current-gen standards, supporting the rendering techniques in the current version of RAGE that weren't a thing when IV was being made (like the PBR material pipeline and parallax textures for windows). It's a little crazy to think about how there's a smaller generational leap between GTA III and GTA IV than there is between V and VI.
