cant remember

I used to play GTA4 online with my college mates. Its simplicity is what I liked about it and made it so practical for us to play, there was no leveling up, buying businesses/vehicles, getting carpet bombed by flying motorcycle.

It was simply just start a lobby and have a deathmatch or race with just us, and each round everyone started equal.

PvP was much better in GTA IV as the modes were more strategic and benefited from team play. Tmw and CnC especially. GTA Vs Online is much more arcadey, although some of the coop modes are sublime.

one of the worst part is how true car chases were ruined by stickys, proxys and bulletproof armor and tires for every car

in gta 4 you could have a sports car chase a minivan and that become epic

simplier and straight to the point

and very enjoyable

V online took me 4 minutes (the time loading, entering a lobby and getting killed by stuppid kiddo) until I realize I dont want to spend time on this garbage, ever

PvP? Yes and no. GTA IV Online has amazing modes like CnC or Team Mafiya Work that just make all GTA V Online adversary modes look embarrassingly bad. But when it comes to races and DMs GTA V Online goes more in depth, and the content creator allowed for thousands and thousands of great maps/tracks... I do however miss Cannonballs from GTA IV Online, and I would want to have certain weapons (like sticky bombs and proximity mines) disabled in GTA races.

When it comes to co-op, well GTA V Online is miles ahead in terms of quality and quantity, and it ranges from classic GTA-style missions to super-futuristic over-the-top stuff like the Doomsday Heist. The 3 GTA IV Online co-op missions are similar to standard contact missions in GTA V Online.

Overall, it really depends on what modes you enjoy the most playing. Personally I love racing and, with all the vehicles, classes, customization and community-made tracks, the choice for me is obvious. I also happen to enjoy co-op missions, so again GTA V Online suits me the best. I'm not at all pretending that GTA V Online is a perfect online experience, it's actually pretty far from it and I could write a long long list of things that I do not like about it... But in this 10-year-old mess there's some content I really do appreciate, and community-made jobs have been a lifesaver for this game.

When it comes to Deathmatch, you only need one map, Liberty City, not some stupid little arenas 😛

Imagine not being able to drive cars during a Deathmatch of a GTA game

is there no one capable of creating or recreating CNC for GTAo?

i feel the creators capabilities have finally reached the point of possibility by someone skilled

I think the in game creator tool simply isn’t flexible enough to recreate CnC. It’s actually quite complex when you get into the details of the code. My friend Klingni did recreate it for FiveM though, but we never got many players. Hopefully now it’s been acquired, it and custom game modes on it will be more mainstream for VI.

How does it play ?

A huge chunk of the map wide open (versus the many obstacles of the GTA IV map) plus helicopters giving up after smoking for a while, they almost meta for CnC if they aren't actually.

Also no combat sniper rifle plus sniper rifle bullets overpenetrate characters (that's an easy fix I imagine)

Some of the test footage:

It probably needed a bit more work, there were only a few of us playing with too big a map. If Klingni had had more time to develop it, I imagine the map would have been set up to encourage play in slightly tighter areas - much like in IV where you can use the whole map but only 1/3rd of it has weapons.

It came a bit too much in our twilight time as me and many other of the PC CnC crowd started having less time to play online for real life reasons. So it’s not active any more. But you can see here the basic principles were recreated. Perhaps it will get a revival when VI comes out.

does anyone else wish TBOGT have unique game modes? The only one thats slightly different was nitros in races

Yeah. TBOGT Multiplayer was severely undercooked, and also poorly designed with the basic modes. Deathmatches sucked ass and took the Auto aspect out of GTA, the new weapon arsenal doesn't translate well to fun competitive play, majority of the race tracks were garbage and they made vehicles brakes too strong, ending up with a really boring, no skill racing experience. The god damn PSP games, that can only be played in what is basically LAN, have way more damn content. Vice City Stories has great Triathlons that TBOGT MP for some reason doesn't (and more tracks than TBOGT singleplayer if I recall correctly).

I was thinking about that episode have a club management style mode. It is like Mafiya work, but in a club theme with unique scenario tasks

Dem mountain roads makes people's movement more predictable as I expected.

I forgot about the weapons but yeah, that might make things quite different between everything in the city and everything above.

And plane getaway for some extra spicing (but blocking it is against the rules of the club ? ) , even the slow Velum is faster than helicopters curiously enough so no chasing.

Yes you’re right about the mountain roads. I think if Klingni had continued development, it would have focused more on LS start points and getaways.

I think fundamentally LC was a better map than LS for CnC, the short bridges with a couple of choices to cross islands being a big strategic element. I think VC would work well though!

gta5 online was great when it first released and into 2014 as well. thats probably as far as i will go with it... from 2013 to 2014 i enjoyed it before all the constant updates... i enjoyed the business update and high life updates from 2014.. mainly the business update because it gave me good memories with that new vestra plane, but past that the game began to get worse and worse. gta4 multiplayer is very fun even with tons of modders and they are mainly harmless fun unlike a modder you find on gta5. the leveling up system is fun in gta4 too and gives you incentive to keep playing and making money so you level up more. i enjoyed hangmans noose a lot..... for gta 4 online back in the glory days it was just a time where you had to be there, and appreciate it for what it was, now knowing that rockstar will forever make money off the gta online brand, they will never take online back to what 4 was and i think 4 was completely awesome

Ye, it was simple but so great. Same with the RDR1 multiplayer which to this day is one of my favorite multiplayer games of all time.

RDR1 too! Love playing as existing NPC and wacky game modes

From what I remember it was really good. I was mostly doing street race/deathmatches with other players, but other than not much else, I couldn't find many players for whatever reason and at the time my PC was really bad, not the best experience.

I do slightly prefer GTA Online though because of more customization/vehicles/missions (there's a lot of gamemodes that I had fun).. (Now did they add way too much stuff in GTA Online? I agree on that part, but some features like those I prefer more) Also not at all for public sessions, most of the game I stay invite only.. GTAIV's wasn't bad, it's just different and has less. It's Liberty City after all.

I don't know about RDR1's but wish both could be on PC officially, but if RDO stopped getting major updates I don't see these ever returning either. I might try GTA4 Multiplayer mod that is around eventually.

You can also still play multiplayer via Games for Windows Live if you downgrade your game. There's a community called Grand Theft RevIVal which aims to keep the multiplayer aspect alive. You can join the discord if you're interested - there's a tutorial to set up your game and everything.

There's events almost every week where we play mostly custom as well as Rockstar modes. You won't find many players outside of events but it's still worth checking out.

We had an event in the beginning of December in which we reached 32 players!

I prefer IV these days because GTA:O has become so oversaturated with trash content and stupid vehicles and after reaching lvl 950 on PC and 600 on Xbox, I feel like I have completed the game in terms of owning what I want. But back in 2013/2014 it was great to have the sense of actual progression - earning money to buy/customise vehicles, purchasing apartments etc. especially those first few months were quite special, before anyone really had money (until the modded bounties lol).

I would be lying if I said I didn’t wish IV had more character progression and ability to purchase stuff, rather than every lobby being a blank slate, but in terms of the minute-to-minute gameplay, I much prefer IV nowadays. IV would also benefit hugely from a content creator like V has - that would breathe a lot of life and longevity into the community.
