Am I the only one disappointed by the trailer?

Recommended Posts

I'm going to speak out, I won't be silenced again like they silenced me on GTA6 subreddit. Reddit mods only seem to be accepting positive feedback. They remove all negative criticism. I feel like it's unfair.

I'll cut to the chase, the game looks GTA5-ish. Cartoon-ish. Sims4-ish. The song way okay. The trailer itself, the writing, the scenes looked silly and the whole thing looked like a parody. I'll just say it: it reminded me of GTA Online and no, it's not a compliment. The game world is big, that's cool, there are flashy cars, neon lights... but what else? Why do people say they're blown away by the graphics? If you compare this trailer to RDR2 Reveal Trailer, you'll find that RDR2 looks more convincing overall. A game from 2018 looks less cartoon-ish and just better in general. And the logo... I've seen nicer fan made logos. I'm sorry but this is horrible. Worst GTA trailer I've ever seen. I also don't think the game is gonna have as many little details as RDR2. I also believe most of the fun content will be locked behind GTA6 Online...

Why do so many people like this trailer? I only met one person yesterday who didn't like it but ever since I've read hundreds of comments. Am I in the wrong? Is there something wrong with ME? Right now I feel like I'm speeding against oncoming traffic. I feel like I'm completely alone on this. Is there something wrong with me for not liking this trailer? I'm 29 years old. Maybe 10 years ago I would have loved it? I don't know. It sucks when I feel so alone on something. I literally only saw 1 negative comment out of hundreds. What is wrong with me? The trailer got 40 million views in 6 hours... everyone is loving it so millions of people can't be wrong, right? I don't know. I feel like sh*t for not liking the trailer.

Thanks for reading and I hope there's gonna be someone out there who shares my opinion.

All of the social media stuff was pretty disturbing, but apart from that I was pretty pleased with it. I already knew beforehand that it was going to take place in modern day with moronic modern day people with their brains rotted out by the internet, and I was pleasantly surprised to see they didn't anywhere nearly as deep into it as I was expecting.

Also, I wouldn't think too deeply on how many people agree on your opinions. Be glad that you're capable of forming your own instead of parroting off of other people. Something uncommon in today's age.

Yes.

No for real, some people like and dislike GTA IV, some like and dislike V, some like and dislike RDR2, etc.

Its not your cup of cofee, well good for you, you can ignore it and play it once its out. Those who like it, will be in pain waiting 2 years.

Nah, you aren't alone. I was overall a bit "meh" about it too - for the same reasons as you. It just looks like GTA V DLC. Same look, tone, color palette etc. That's just the feel I got from it.

Very flashy which I guess works well for the tiktok adhd generation. But I hope the next trailer is more serious and gives us more of a clue what it wants to say.

As of right now, my impression is that they are continuing with the more light-hearted tone V took, rather than going back to IV's gritty drama.

Of course, I could be wrong. it's one trailer - there is still plenty of water to run under the bridge. But I'm not really blown away like most people seem to be.

It's bound to leave a bittersweet taste in some mouths - 10 years of building hype and expectations + last years acceleration with the leaks and announcement..it's understandable. Me myself have been an avid player and fan since GTA III, and I would've wished for some more serious underlying tone, more towards GTA IV, but hey - The story at least seems to be a bit inclined towards exploring a bond and relationship between two individuals in a crazy world around them, which I do like.

I like the Redneck vibes from the trailer but I have other "complaints":

The trailer shows no actual gameplay, it also doesn't show how big the map is, the city looks big but this might be deceptive, LS looks large from various angles but it isn't and trailers usually are deceptive. If the actual game world is as lively as in the trailer is another question, it seems a lot of cars are from V, I had wished for an entirely new car stock except a few of the latest DLC cars.

I doubt if VI has the charme for me as V had, but we'll see, maybe I were more hyped by the trailer if it weren't for the leaks. I am not disappointed though, the trailer is pretty much what I expected and with the Redneck vibes even a small positive surprise.

PS:

The parody is propably intended and a core of the GTA franchise, this is an interesting thread, wether you like it or not, it seems to fit the setting:

cant remember

I see what you mean, so I'll dish out some hopium.

My thinking is that all those social media clips are from the in-game internet, and they just wanted to double down on showing all the Florida man / social media stuff in this trailer.

I think the graphics look very good, but progress is harder to notice than going back. I thought gta5 looks just like gta4 DLC. But replaying gta4 right after V I'm like oof this is definitely a downgrade in detail.

I’ve calmed down now from seeing it last night - I always wanted VI to have a past time setting and one of the reasons was I felt it would be like too much like GTA V with loads of social media parodies and such and judging from the trailer it looks like that will indeed be the case.

However the trailer was still incredible and it barely touched on the narrative/Lucia & Jason but the scenes that did really intrigued me. The city/state looks amazing as well - OP even though RDR and GTA are made by Rockstar and obviously have similarities- they’re still two completely different games so I don’t see the point in comparing the trailers.

I'm only disappointed in the fact it was leaked early and we never got to ride the hype train until the original release time. I was asleep when it dropped so i'm angry that was robbed from us.

Yeah I doubt the actual game is going to have a heavy social media focus, It was likely just some artistic choice purely for the trailer and won't be such an "in your face" thing throughout the game. If they said beforehand that the gameplay was going to be social media-centric then I'd be barfing irl and call this game "Saints Row 2022 2", but at the end of the day it's just a cinematic trailer.

i disappointed too not expecting to see this early

Guys are we drinking the same water? I really don't understand how anybody can say this looks like a gta V dlc xD this looks more like gta V running on rdr2 engine, unless you played that video in 480p.

I don't know what people were expecting. Like can we stop acting like there's not 10 minutes of leaked 1080P footage from a year ago? If this trailer disappointed you and you had already seen all that, that's your fault. Sorry.

I didnt like it at first, but after watching it over and over and seeing the small details, I LOVE THE TRAILER

I think my expectations were higher and for some reason i was expecting like another "GTAV" but this game is so much different, It's indeed a different Grand Theft Auto

It had to grow on me. The leaked footage threw me off, but when I saw it this morning I got really excited again. Shame someone would leak something like this. Totally not cool.

Yes, it feels like a parody. But.. that is basically what GTA has always been! A parody of society at that moment.

It has become more on the nose with GTA V tho, so maybe they're pushing it further with VI. I hope not too much, because then you're basically playing Saints Row and I hate that game.

GTA has always had that cartoonish but realistic vibe to it. I don't agree on that being a bad thing.

I have to disagree. I don't remember RDR2 looking nearly as cartoon-ish as Sims4. GTA6 does sort of look like a GTA5 DLC.

What the hell am I even reading :kekw:There's an hour of leaked footage, not 10 minutes. What does the leaked footage have to do with someone being disappointed by the trailer? And how is its resolution relevant, wtf. OP just expressed his opinion about the trailer, how is that his fault?

I thought the trailer was a bit disappointing as well. Felt like it was too fast and they overused the social media thing. Still looking forward to the game, though.

As super hyped for VI as i am, it was probably one of the first things that crossed my mind when watching the trailer, that it looks like what i would have expected from Expanded and Enhanced for PC lol

I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to feel like VI is a super polished up version of V in a new location with new people, that's kinda what it's meant to be, i guess some people were so hyped up that they were expecting something more?  i'm probably partially guilty of this myself.

I wouldn't be that surprised that a parody of Florida is outlandish. Anyone could have guessed they'd go in for the Florida man archetype, and the tone of the succession of clips captures that. I think the format they chose, using a series of short form social media videos, might feel a little remote to older GTA fans, but I'd say it's a very imaginative way of establishing the game's setting and detail, and even if the format doesn't do it for you, I think the picture one gets from these clips is of a massive, visually stunning world crowded with things, people, and creative detail. Everything we've seen to this point, including the trailer, and the fact that the leaks of September 2022 indicated there were more than 1200 ambient world events whereas RDR2 had a number in the low hundreds, suggests this is gonna be an incredibly detailed and immersive game, and I for one am very excited.

Everyone’s entitled to say they were disappointed in something.

Id generally disagree though. It’s about what I expected in terms of the graphics look basically RDR2 +, but the sheers scale of it is more than I might have expected. From roof top and arial shots Vice City looks well over twice as big as Los Santos, and that before you even get into the fact we expect bigger towns outside of that.

We haven’t seen much but I’m feeling increasingly confident Lucia will be a success as R*’s first female protagonist.

Overall the only negative for me is the press release mentions the consoles and not the PC (again pointing towards a staggered release).

I've been skeptical even before the leaks, so I wasn't too surprised. I'm not impressed by what I saw as I don't care for the graphics. Gameplay reveal is where "it will be at" as they say.

So far the trailer showed me mostly what I expected.
