The trailer is highlighting how out-of-touch the rest of the world is with American culture

Well said. Feel like they fully embrace Leonida as the natural habit of "Leonida Man" :lmaokek:

The trailer really shows how much more Rockstar can portray with next-gen tech, it's more lively than IV and V. I'm shocked with how crowded it is.

As the writer of a fanmade concept/fanfic set in modern Vice City, even when the theme I prefer is more like IV, what this trailer has shown is pretty accurate to real-life Miami. Let's go!

That sh*t was exaggerated but as someone that's visited many times it ain't unrealistic lol. Or even woke. Hell, I feel like this is a way more accurate representation of people than V. Especially when I saw the mudding. That sh*t is real

People are crazy. I don't even think a satire can do it justice lol

I've been to Florida many times. This reminds me of a weekend in Miami. Doesn't look woke at all. Just pure satire, and I love it!

Ppl seriously dont know wat the term “woke” is lol. Not you just saying in general. But yea ppl in Florida/America are crazy dont matter Black, White, Latino, etc…

ngl, my first thought was that they were pushing a woke agenda by putting a bunch of that stuff in the trailer. reminded me of the new Saints Row. but then I thought about it and yeah, that's pretty accurate for Miami.

Also, as an American, we all think Florida is crazy. There's like two Floridas. The rich, super-car laden, uber rich stuff like Bal Harbor and Palm Beach and Cavallino, etc. And then there's the kind you see on the news with the classic "Florida man" lol. A lot of the stuff I read about that state seems almost satirical but isn't. And I live in Texas. :kekw:

I genuinely don't understand the woke complaints. GTA has always been a satire of American culture and ALWAYS greatly exaggerated everything. I assume the complaints are from people who've only played GTA Online.

I saw the vibe coming a mile away

Honestly i love the trashy social media aesthetic of this game. Its a whole 180 switch in tone from the og vice city and it reminded me a lot of movies like spring breakers, zola, crank and snow on da bluff.

I dont know why everyone is shocked. This is just everyday sh*t in not just florida, but much of the south as well lol. Its not everyday you see a depiction of modern day miami like that let alone in a mainstream title like gta

RIGHT FOR ONCE

Sums it up:

Quote

With the release of this trailer, Sam Houser and Rockstar Games have done the unthinkable and and outgrown perhaps their only peer: Norman Rockwell.

Rockwell’s paintings throughout the 20th century, most notably the covers he illustrated for the Saturday Evening Post, were revered for their capturing of everyday people doing everyday things—isolated moments he enshrined in 4,000+ works over the span of a 50 year long career  that defined through his proxy subjects who and where we are (or were), culturally and spiritually, as a society.

We’re now heading towards the middle of the third decade of the 21st century.  Rockwell’s been dead for fifty years. Now we have Grand Theft Auto VI, a revered crime simulator that evidently also has a love story to tell. Yet it’s the isolated moments, like a woman twerking on-top of a moving car and a redneck crashing through a trestle table, that Rockstar and Houser use to show not how we have evolved as a society like Rockwell did—but now, as a species.”

I love visiting Miami and the trailer is literally Florida, like the most perfect representation of Florida and Miami you’re ever going to get out of a game, or even media as a whole.

I've seen a decent minority of people rag on the trailer for featuring a lot of "ghetto, trashy, low income" behavior, like the girls twerking on the cars, the gangsters doing risky sh*t and looking like freaks, or the weird rednecks.

To a lot of these people it seems that the footage is a reflection of Rockstar "going woke" or being pozzed, but what they fail to understand is that this is literally just an actual depiction (albeit maybe a bit exaggerated, being that it's literally GTA) of Florida.

The past games were either set decades ago when phenomena like this was a lot more subdued or in places that are not as trashy & bizarre as south Florida, so for non-US citizens it was easy to overlook bizarre phenomena that typically occur in the US, but it's become evident that the new setting of modern day Florida is the first actual glimpse, to a lot of people around the world, of just how crazy and trashy some places in the US can be.

To a Florida native, seeing a black girl twerk on a car is probably just another Saturday night, but to some random guy from Bulgaria it seems like an exaggerated and atypical display of debauchery only displayed and glorified for shock value.

But the harsh truth that a lot of non-US demographics are going to face is that things like that are literally just commonplace in Florida, and America in general.

GTA has moved away from simple games that derive their plot from old mobster movies like The Godfather or Goodfellas, and is now a satirized reflection of modern American society, and the harsh truth is that GTA 6 is only going to double down on glamour, trashiness, vanity & debauchery.

This is what GTA is about, and people around the world who don't know much about Florida besides Scarface and Miami Vice are in for a culture shock.

A lot of people still are confused that Tommy or CJ hasn't returned, you think they're bright enough to realize GTA is satire? :modkek:

Or you know. You can just play Vice City.

while i agree w you i think the trailer should've been more reserved and serious. this trailer would be great as a 3rd or 4th trailer.

Yup this just feels like V 2.0 lol. Another GTA in the modern day...atleast IV and V were vastly different in their tone

If it actually was woke it wouldn't dare depict scenes of female minorities twerking ontop of cars

People don't know what the term "woke" actually means and its origins.

GTA always was a satire. And the games that were heavily inspired from movies were the spinoffs. 4, 5 and even 3 were very satirical of the current culture. That's why they always set their main games on release date, so this is possible. There was less satire in Vice City and San Andreas, since these games were set in the past, so there was more inspiration from movies etc. Since it was more of a love letter.

I'd like to add to that, that given the state of modern day America, I was hoping we get a spinoff set in the 70s, because knowing that GTA has their finger on the pulse of culture, them setting a game in current day Florida made the trailer turn out exactly how I expected.

Disclaimer: Actually look up the term "woke" before spamming it.

As a person who has been to southern Florida many times, I am really loving the ethnic and cultural diversity of what was shown and how it resembles real life Miami and southern Florida. From the Latin culture, hood Black culture, "rednecks" and many more. R* really did their homework on the cultural diversity.

Also, I see some people complaining "why were their only Black people in trailer." I'll gladly address this(and pretty sure most Florida natives will agree). R* from what I've seen only showed three parts of Miami... The hood(not saying Blacks are limited to the hood), touristy areas and "redneck" areas. That is not all of Miami not even close. More importantly Miami has a more significant Black population(more so than LA which is small) around 19-20% which is actually significant. But also Black culture in Miami(especially rap/hip hop) is VERY influential. And as a Black person that "ratchet behavior"(not trying to generalize) common on Miami beach. All in all R* captured the Black side of Miami well.

As for Latinos. The very fact that one of the protagonists is Latina shows that the game will have a large Latin presence imo. We did not even see Little Havana(which is obviously gonna be in the game) or other Latin neighborhoods/areas which will also obviously be in the game. But the few I seen shows R again did their homework.

Lastly, R* captured the "redneck" areas well. One of my favorite parts of the trailer was the "mud people." lol. All in all I still feel we will soon see Russians, Italians, Jews and other ethnic groups because R* again only showed a small segment of Miami/Southern Florida. Again we really did not see the affluent areas of Vice CIty in the trailer like that outside of the touristy spots imo. But so far they did a good job with the typical tourists of Miami, "redneck" culture, Black hood culture with wicks/gold teeth and finally Latin charm.

Yes what most people seem to not understand is that the Grand Theft Auto series is and has always been a satirical take on American culture. Everything they do is to poke fun. A lot of the subliminal jokes are missed but that goes to show how well Rockstar can write and direct this form of entertainment. Things will be exaggerated but they also have a strain of truth to it.

This is why I laugh when people argue for GTA locations like Arizona, Utah, Detroit, or even outside of the USA. None of these places are satire enough when it comes to USA culture.

This was a beautiful take on it and you’re absolutely right. Rockstar has always put satire and jokes into the games but they also want realism. They studied the areas and are representing that diversity of cultures and influences for the areas they area recreating.
