Trilogy Definitive Edition OUT NOW on Mobile via Netflix - Updated on All Platforms

I think they should add a photo-mode in a future update if it will get more..and if that's even possible, maybe the code doesn't allow it I don't know. Especially for San Andreas it would make some good looking screenshots.

I don't think that will happen but either way, who knows. Any way to turn off hud and move camera around for TDE like that for screenshots that I am not aware of?

The vanilla game could literally already do this. Pictures taken with the SA camera saved to your hard drive. Now they just go into the void.

Looking at the tweets Williamson made 3 years ago about the current state of DE, I don’t know.. this is where my dislike for GSG actually began. I do understand that remastering three full open-world games at once is a heavy task, but the way they defended all criticism, only saying, “The hardworking professionals did a good job” left me with a sour taste for the company.

This was when players already saw in what state this mess was.

This is also not the first time GSG messed up. The SA remaster for the Xbox 360 was a complete failure.. it was a mobile game ported to consoles without reimplementing controller-specific buttons. It even sometimes displayed on-screen buttons for missions like Vigilante on a console game played on TVs. On top of that, it had memory corruption issues that were never fixed.

T2 is also to blame here for giving them the task for the third time to remaster an already sunken ship (DE is based on the mobile version). It’s just a big mess of fixing things that have been broken since 2013. So a big thanks to Video Games Deluxe trying the best out of it.

isn't it a thing in the original game too? I thought there was a floating payphone somewhere on the map in the original game.

Edit:It's not the same one I don't think, I was thinking of this one:

Not the same one, but both are tied to Downtown, and the DE version is specifically located above Downtown. Huh.

I wonder if both of them exist in DE or if it's the same one just moved to a different location.

Dont know if others have noted this before but in Photo Opportunity, if you zoom in on Ryder, T-Bone and Mike Toreno, it gets super blurry for some reason

This whole thing is a mystery for me. The "original" recreated sign textures  by GSG looking like literally made with MS Paint, so probably there was no one who could make a texture for a video game at a video game development company. I know they arent working on the game anymore. The new developers have recreated several texture this time, but left many in the catastrophic 2021 AI uspcale state. They cant fix the LOD, and cant add back the trash to Liberty City? Why? Is that so hard to recreate an 2001 video game feature? Rockstar doesnt have money to hire 5 graphic artist to redrawn all the sign/billboards textures, especially with the new AI techniques? And if they are not care, why did they release this patch?

Probably because someone had to work to get the way behind-schedule mobile versions of DE done and in the process the developers fixed and added a few things. Once the exclusivity or whatever ran out, they backported it to other platforms and added some more fixes while doing that.

With no further releases on the schedule, I wouldn't be surprised if this was the last patch. Hell, I'm half surprised we got this one at all.

This is a good update. But there are still some bugs that are visible on all 3 games, the collision bugs are still present on some roads and poles on SA, this absolutely needs to be fixed, they did it in some places but not everywhere. On Vice City, Tommy still doesn't slow down when you release the joystick gradually. Missing elements on some vehicles on SA, like the doubled rear wheels on semi-trailers, or on the Yosemite. The left front wheel arm is still missing on the BF injection on SA. There must be others left. Are the Sentinel's (no mafia) front headlights on GTA 3 still broken? Are the Sabre Turbo's front wheels still broken, still wobbly when you turn right or left while driving?

Is it worth getting on the Switch now with the update? How is saving? Do you have to go to the safe house everytime?

If you can bear the smear of the low resolution, almost absence of grass, and sub 30 fps, then it's worth getting.

Oh, and there's auto save after missions, no need to go to the safe house

We can only speculate but I'm curious what others think.

Was that the final patch?

Im afraid so. Which is sad, because they are not so far from making something coherent, and visually appealing. Remove the ai upscaled textures (or atleast uspcale the correct ones, like the xbox textures in GTA3), fixing the lod, adding back athmospheric stuff like trash, and i know, i ask for too much, but change the road texture in GTA3, the current looks ridicolous. Couldnt they just bought a more fitting asphalt texture from unreal marketplace?

The game will receive no further patches + GSG tweet was bullsh*t (From reliable source)

Some new information has come forward today, from an anonymous reliable source. I know this is a "Trust me, bro" situation, but you will have to take my word for it.

I was given this information by a third party of the source, whom I will also keep anonymous for their privacy.

The third party spoke to the source, and this is some information they got back:

**"We were told nearly two months before the game was released publicly that Grove Street Games were being removed from the project. They would stay on the project through the initial release, and then their involvement would end."**

**"Rockstar never explained to me why that decision was made. I hadn't seen a build or knew what the state of the game was beyond a few elements at that stage, so I had no idea how good or bad it was. The official reason from the GSG side was they had to take all their resources away from R\* to focus on a project with Studio Wildcard (ARK rematers)"**

**"The initial release was what it was. The day the game was pushed live was the final day of any involvement in DE from Grove Street Games. The immediate scramble to fix what GSG had put out, and the post-launch patches that you saw in the weeks and months following, were not handled by GSG at all, but Rockstar internally, mainly some folks at R\* Leeds who were pulled from support work on GTA Online to help get the game up to scratch. Mainly the most immediate bugs, with the plan to find a new studio to take over from GSG."**

**"About 5 months post release, I was told that Video Games Deluxe would be taking over the project. VGD is Brendan McNamara's studio, and made up of a lot of ex-Team Bondi folks. The idea originally was for VGD to continue work on making patches and improvements to the game for the PC and console releases, as well as a planned VR port of San Andreas.  At some stage into the project that is unclear to me, VGD's brief was pivoted to instead port the Trilogy to mobile, I imagine likely on the back of the Netflix Games deal. The work on fixing the PC and console versions was put on haiatus and the VR port of San Andreas was dropped.  VGD delivered the mobile ports and the fixes and improvements backported to the PC and console versions not long after."**

**"The patches and fixes that have recently been released on PC and consoles has existed for over 12 months in a private Steam branch. They're not new, or recent. There'll be no further updates, either. I'm not sure why they've sat unreleased for so long, it could be contractual or it could simply be waiting for a window where they could push the new patches through testing and cert with the first parties, I don't know."**

**"The reason the GSG logo has been removed was mainly because the mobile ports were not technically released by GSG, they had no involvement in the process of getting those versions onto mobile - so to put the GSG logo on the menu / splash screens could be seen as misrepresentation, somewhat, and that has now carried over into these new patches. The reason is, from what I know, more technical and legal than as anything more sinister, since another studio is now publishing the game to those platform.  But yes, TLDR, don't expect any more patches or releases. This is pretty much all you're getting, as far as I am aware."**

Given this information, it's safe to assume that Thomas Williamsons tweet, about how his team provided hundreds of fixes that were not released, is complete bs.

Unfortunately, this information is reliable. I hope on some level that it is incorrect, or perhaps that Rockstar change their minds, as without additional work, these games cannot be the true definitive versions, when they are so unbelievably close now.

I was 5 seconds late. lmao

This is the main takeaway:

That‘d be very disappointing if true. The games are still far away from reaching the quality of the OG versions they were supposed to be a remaster of.

If all of this is true, this is a big clusterf*ck why had Take 2 or Rockstar even just letting the originals live without any remasters or remakes, I do intend to try those ue4 based ones to find out more about them by myself too, my 1 TB ssd is not much far away anymore within these days from being sent to me.

It would be a shame if this were true (and as a pessimist by nature, I default to assuming the worst… :sadkek:).

These updates should be paving the road for getting the DE to a state where you could actually call it the “Definitive” version of the Trilogy with a straight face. It’s a night and day difference compared to GSG’s atrocious day one versions, and even the mobile/Netflix versions (i.e. restoring each biome’s distinct color palette in SA, vs. just using Los Santos’s coloring across the entire map); but there’s still a lot of work that could (and should) be done. To just sit on finished patches for a year in spite of the abysmal quality the DE was being left to rot in on consoles/PC since 2022 sounds depressingly on-brand, given R*’s inconsistent handling of their legacy titles. Netflix wanting timed mobile-exclusivity is the only fathomable reason (relatively speaking) I could see for R* to essentially twiddle their thumbs for as long as they did, but even that’s a stretch, IMO.

I’m sure this will be a hot take after this week’s events, but if I knew ahead of time that these would be the final DE updates (again, assuming this info is legit), I’d honestly rather have had R*/T2 cut their losses ages ago; swallow their pride and just relist the originals on Steam and PlayStation. Perhaps they could have had Double Eleven, VGD or some other trustworthy developers give the originals the Nightdive Studios treatment at a later point. Preferably using PS2 as a base (or OG Xbox in the case of III and VC), but PC would also be fine as long as they were willing to put in the effort to implement official, in-house equivalents of things like SilentPatch/SkyGFX/etc. (or better yet, work with the SP modding community instead of taking legal action any time their IPs are “threatened”). Something like this (which, ironically enough, was uploaded just a few days before the new updates released. Funny how life works sometimes):

That’s all the Trilogy ever really needed: a faithful rerelease on modern platforms, with some bug fixes, touched-up assets here and there (certainly not just running every texture through an AI-upscaler and calling it a day), and reworked controls to bring the games up to the standards of IV/V (read, not mapping each input to an invisible on-screen widget). But with the DE being the odd middle ground between a remake and a remaster that it is, on top of the possibility that work on it ceased a year ago, I doubt that’s ever going to happen. It’s disappointing to think of what could have been.
