Trilogy Definitive Edition OUT NOW on Mobile via Netflix - Updated on All Platforms

Recommended Posts

Rockstar Games has cleverly toned down volumetric lighting and increased foliage distance. This makes lighting looks worse, makes pop-in less common with more foliage in the distance and significantly improves performance.

Like I said, great changes in order to fix the bloody mess GSG has created in 2021.

But "A Home In The Hills" still seems to be faulty because you can see the map in that screenshot. Or is Classic Lighting not activated there and therefore no clouds? (Wouldn't be great either since you shouldn't see the map with the Non-Classic-Lighting aswell, this is just immersion-breaking.)

While it still doesn’t quite match up to the quality of the originals, IMO, I do think the DE is in a good enough state now that it’s a serviceable alternative (particularly if you have no other means of accessing the OGs). I’d personally wait for a discount, though; Steam’s Autumn sale should be coming up in the next few weeks.

Renamed to GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition as of now since they are taking time to fix it. Alrighty then, gotta try these ue4 gems then.

Before this takes off again with misinformation - GSG was not removed from anywhere in the game, Rockstar just generally removed the weird, unfitting splash screen that had GSG's logo in it. Fans on social media took this as "haha GSG removed!" but they are credited at the end of the games, alongside everyone at VGD. Nobody was actually removed (as they shouldn't be, regardless of whether the work was good or bad they should still be credited)

Why they unfollowed is mysterious, maybe they believed that themselves instead of checking. Regardless, Rockstar's contract with GSG has probably ended ages ago, so...

Indeed and I do dislike this whole "lol GSG bad" narrative that we're seeing. As amusing as it is to joke about the 'hardworking professionals', the fact is that they still did the monumental task of getting the original game engines working 'headless' in Unreal and porting everything over. The texture work wasn't even their responsibility - it was handled by Technicolor India (hence the spelling mistakes - AI upscaling doesn't make straight up typos; poorly paid Indians working to tight deadlines do), and the QA was handled by Rockstar Lincoln.

That said, removing the credits wouldn't be unprecedented in the video game industry - for example when the Yakuza games got their DRM-free release on GOG, Sega inexplicably removed the credits for QLOC (who handled the PC ports). It does make sense that they'd change the splash screen though, given that GSG aren't the only people working on it now. Even if the DE released in an excellent state I can understand them not wanting their name plastered over a product that doesn't represent what they delivered.

Regarding the contract, as I understand it the contract ran until the end of March 2022, which is why the last patch was around then. If memory serves, this is because the original release date was planned to be in March 2022, but when GTA E&E was delayed until the new year Rockstar brought the release date forward so they'd have something for the 2021 Christmas period. Hence things releasing in a chaotic state (i.e. with the mission source code etc still included) - as I understand it the decision to bring the release date forward was fairly last minute from GSG's perspective.

I thought they were paired back but clouds look good on Switch handheld

This classic lighting matched the Switch version very well, even though it had inferior graphics. With the generic lighting of the unreal engine the graphics looked very ugly.

There at minute 0:08 it shows what I was saying, VGD fixed the bug that had in the original PC versions where the Peds, mainly from gangs, didn't talk much, and now they are talking, Silent put this correction in the latest version of the silent patch on original PC version.

in other parts of the video you can also notice.

Now it's the same as the original PS2 version.

It's my vague speculation post being blown up, as I should've expected...

What do you mean? Can you tell us more about this, where was this mentioned?

A page ago or so :p

We do know there's at least one GTA VI texture in the game anyway, or at least a brand, as you can see from this wiki article:

Performance mode removes-simplifies player shadows?

In general, regarding shadows, only the quality is simplified.

And the drawing distance of the shadows is somewhat smaller than in fidelity mode.

What we got is way better than ultra-realistic RDR2-levels of NPCs, cuz otherwise it would clash too much with the environment

What I still miss and what we'll probably never getting back in the DE: The destructible trees, Joshua trees, stones and other interactive environmental objects. Especially the foliage in the forest areas was very individual in the original (and even PC) release back then. All that stuff was cut in the mobile version, and since the DE is based on that version, I guess we'll never get that back. Things like this:

A few bugs remaining and surprising that they did not see them to correct them:

- still areas of collision bugs on certain roads on the 3 games

- Tommy still does not slow down his race by releasing the joystick progressively

- the BF injection in SA still has not found its missing wheel arm.

The lamps, when you hit these will gone (i think only on GTA VC & SA, so please check these)

In GTA VC i can't no more help the Police without getting one star instead of money

The geyser in GTA SA doesn't work

I can see stars in the sky at 14:00 (and similar hours)

A weird yellow reflection affect all cars, so when i see for example a red car this appear as yellow because of that reflection...

Original vs Remaster,

It looks like they've been fixing some things that were missing from the original PC version, like that sign. I don't remember if it was fixed in the previous version of DE

Right? The guy wants super realistic NPCs when the graphics aren't even that great. It would be very inconsistent.

They don’t have to be super realistic, just have them fit with the tone, less polygonal
