The new patch on the current-gen consoles and PC added far more fog. The one on your last-gen console doesn't seem to have nearly enough of it, I will share a screenshot of the PC version after the latest patch:

Well I'm on PS4 Pro version (disc) running on PS5 so yeah I probably have less fog than current gen and PC.

Actually, when I flew through classic clouds, I encountered massive FPS drop.

A fix for those who are experiencing the LowLevelFatalError error on Steam Deck:

1. Select the game you want to play from your Steam library. 
2. Select the gear icon on the right of the page.
3. Select Properties… 
4. In General, select the field under LAUNCH OPTIONS and enter:
%command% -dx12 
5. Select Back to return to the game launch page. 
6. Select Play to launch the game.

Honestly those lampposts don't look that good to me still.

Like, they might have changed the corona and the emissive bulb colors to fit something more realistic of that era, that's fine and dandy for sure, but what about the lighting that gets cast on the ground etc?

it looks waay less intense and way less saturated than those, kinda inconsistent to me tbh.

 

I see that actually depends on the weather? welp...

I bet they did it to fix the performance issues. It seems like they have increased the foliage distance too, that should worsen the performance though. 
 

The games run better overall. The lack of volumetric lighting is most noticeable in GTA 3.

I LOVE this update. I'm glad I kind of held off the San Andreas playthrough. I got the 100 tags originally and put it down. Now that the lighting is fixed, I'll have a proper playthrough!

Pretty good! Imagine if the game came out in this state 3 years ago instead of yesterday...

San Andreas is unplayable. Even in OG Loc mission, it is impossible to dodge bullets from cops and gangs. I always die either from explosion or aimbot gangs after I literally end the mission and it reverts back to checkpoint. So frustrating. Also cops are acting like hitman. You can't run away from them.

As someone who has a history of being harsh on the DE over the years, I'm pleasantly surprised with these updates myself. Better late than never, although the games really should have launched in a state like this to begin with. There's no excuse for R*/GSG launching the DE as it was in 2021.

 

I doubt these versions will truly replace the OGs in all of my future Trilogy revisits, but I'm more compelled to give them a proper shot now (and if nothing else, I can treat them as a companion piece of sorts). I'll probably wait until the Steam Autumn sale, though; I'm not too keen on the thought of paying the full $60 for what are, at the end of the day, still fundamentally remasters that were based on flawed mobile ports designed for decade-old smartphones.

In Vice City. Sun rise is way more realistic with Classic On, I like it.

The original colours in the DE looked pretty good for Vice City actually, most people never really complained much about them because the colours suited the atmosphere.

I always felt like Vice City was the most well made out of the 3 lol, despite all the bugs and poor performance.

Found a pretty critical bug with this update... It somehow changed my bindings and made all of the mouse ones a pound sign. I had to manually rebind my shoot and aim buttons, but I cant figure out how to rebind the map controls, making it impossible to zoom or clear a set waypoint. Can probably be fixed by just deleting my config but still annoying.

Somehow I still prefer OG GTA 3 to DE GTA 3. Because the original looks WAY grittier than the updated. It has depressing grey-ish blue tones of a disgusting city. DE doesn't capture that very well. It needs to be way dirtier and grittier. 

So glad these updates also came to the Switch today, it's a very welcome surprise. 

 

Classic lighting is a great start, I personally would love to also be able to turn on things like classic fonts/iconography and things like that (Wanted/Busted screen especially).

Yeah, I kinda wish they would remove those backgrounds from Wasted/Busted as they look really odd. Or at least give people an option, as I've read some people not minding them.

It's such a strange and unnecessary change. I get that getting Busted or Wasted isn't very dynamic/cinematic in the OG Trilogy compared to IV/V, but tacky-looking overlays were not the way to rectify that. 

 

I also wish the fonts were changed to be more similar to their original counterparts. The replacements look a bit generic, soulless even. EDIT: The SA-style weapon icons in VC (some of them also seem to be based on III, IIRC) also look out of place, but that's more of a nitpick in the grand scheme of things.

Undoubtedly Steam Deck-related fixes, that is likely taking priority now.

 The fonts were specifically what I was thinking about as well! Especially for Vice City, I miss the mission direction/subtitle font. It fit in perfectly with the rest of the aesthetic, whereas the DE font just feels very generic, very Arial.

Yeah, I have really mixed feelings about the new "modern controls" option on 3/VC. Sure, moving with the shotgun is cool, but... weren't the weapons not balanced for that? I can totally see some people barrelling through missions while running and gunning with the spaz 12.

You can change it back bro

The mobile controls and vehicle camera are terrible, yea.

 

Bikes in VC all have weird handling (especially when you attempt to do wheelies and stoppies). Planes controls in SA just suck overall. Carl can either walk or sprint, but he can't run normally (same with swimming and cycling). Vehicle camera angle is too high (even when you set it on Low in the gameplay settings) and looking around is much worse than in the OG versions.

 

Just give us the original controls back ffs :bruh:

Are people playing these games for the first time gonna know this? It is on by default after all. In the same way that classic lighting is now on by default, you shouldn't have to go into the options to *restore* vanilla gameplay behavior.

Very true. They also got rid of the "tap to sprint faster" mechanic in SA which screws with my muscle memory and they still haven't restored the proper bike controls.
