I still have some doubts about this though. Like, a lot if not all of that information is available in a couple of documentaries where he was interviewed and nothing happened, why is the blog post allegedly suddenly not fine? And it wasn't even an actual legal message from R* NYC but rather North colleagues (assumingly from some of the OG's that are still there) being "upset"? I kinda can't see that when RAGE GTA's are all the rage (ha) now.

 

For instance, I can see why the situation with Mike Dailly happened because he was sharing design documents and such, a bit different than non-technical development stories. Even that was most likely R* legal telling him off - this just seems to be, allegedly, supposed colleagues being "pissed off"? Hm. Then again I suppose some of the very very old guard might still be into the whole "mystique" thing from the early 2000's I guess lol.

Something still doesn't connect very well here lol, I'm not sure individual colleagues would care that much. And I still maintain that it's extremely weird that he never advertised this blog on LinkedIn where he seems to be quite active (as recently as a week ago, commenting and posting), you'd think he'd show it off to other professional peers.

He even got interviewed by Danny O'Dwyer from Noclip a while ago and he talked a bit about the development of GTA III, the days of DMA Design, etc. So yeah, this whole blog is kinda sketchy and the wording is a bit off (spelling "gta" with lower case for example).

Exactly, that's the doc I meant. NoClip documentaries are very high profile, it doesn't make sense.

It could certainly be real, but yea, a lot if not all of that information is stuff that is very similar to information that is already out there. It's doing the rounds now from this blog as brand new information, but if you follow R* closely it's very similar to stuff that's came out before, be it through interviews, leaks, whatever. 

 

Now this whole stuff about being peer pressured into taking it down.

The main thing that makes me skeptical is that while the information itself is interesting for us, I find it to be relatively badly written, especially for a blog where reading is the main experience. Like it seems he's writing loosely connected sentences and bits of information without writing an actual story.

 

Also why he would start a blog for that in the first place, when he's got so many other channels where he can share his experiences.

I remember when a former Simpsons writer (Josh Weinstein) started sharing information and trivia about old episodes (seasons 1-10) of the series on Twitter, man that was fantastic, but he never received any kind of "censorship" or "request to stop" by Fox or Disney.

As example he finally explained one of the fans' oldest doubts, about a joke that no one had ever understood.

 

 

Its really sad that Obbe stopped it before writing about IV and RAGE.

Mhm. The man was a technical director I believe, a lot of the posts did not seem like they had been written by someone who was a technical director. The NoClip documentary interviews on the other hand...

In all fairness, if rockstar came to my house to threaten me into taking a blog down, I’d prob give out some lame excuse like that just so my house doesn’t get firebombed if I tell them what actually happened

This is legitimately one of the coolest 25th anniversary gifts that I've ever seen in a videogame franchise. Not only did Valve reunite with the old developers to share their untold experiences with the development of Half-Life, but they went out of their way to officially fix, patch and improve the game 25 years later and even add new and exclusive content for it. This is something you rarely see with anniversaries in other videogames' franchises. You either get a cheaply put-down-together lousy trilogy compilation, a slaughtered "remaster" bastardization, a simple "Thank You" from the developers/publishers - or hell, not even acknowledging the anniversary of what put you on the map in the first place. Kirby got a whole ass musical concert dedicated for his 30th anniversary and GTA only got a couple of remastered GTA 1 songs for the series' 25th anniversary. That's embarrassing, man.

One thing I'd say to the doubters is this - his Twitter account which posted the link to the blog and is replying to people has existed since Feb 2019. He hadn't tweeted anything prior to Nov 11 this year, which makes 4 1/2 years a hell of a long setup for a troll/fake to gain followers and attention.

 

Re some of the veteran (maybe?) Rockstar devs not being overjoyed at him posting about this, well that just adds credence to the posts above saying that Rockstar like mysticism. Utter sh*te in this day and age of course, but Rockstar gonna Rockstar.

 

TLDR: I believe it's genuine. Interesting too!

All of my friends that work in the high profile sector of IT industry (aka 'technical directors') write exactly like that (in those contexts... obviouly you won't write the same way you do in a paper in a letter to your grandma). 

 

In any case, I'd say the writing style only adds to the credibility factors. Which are a lot. And there is not one single solid reason (or even indirect sign) to believe it is fake, except for your trust issues, it seems.

Also, we should remember that if this wasn't the real guy, he would've appeared to dismiss all this already to avoid trouble with his former company. I'll trust him until further ado.

He doesn't really have to, the actual person has a Linkedin account and he could be known for it being his only contact/communication front, OR he could've already clarified it privately to them.

I just don't know why someone would go through the trouble of faking all this when these games aren't even relevant/recent to Rockstar anymore, it's not like he's sharing stuff about the most recent games made using RAGE or anything.

My uncle is a mining engineer and his handwriting is god awful. Apparently it's common for engineers, architects, etc. people in any kind of field that requires a high technical knowledge to have awful handwriting and grammatical structure (and don't get my started on the handwriting of doctors)

Rockstar hardly cares about trilogy, so much so that they destroyed it with The Definitive Edition TM (and left it messed up for 2 years with no proper support, T2 acknowledged the initial Hot Coffee 2.0 as a glitch and nothing else).

In other words, never happening.

 

Did they even acknowledge when IV made its countless anniversaries?

Sure they did! They removed dozens of songs from the radio stations to celebrate the tenth anniversary. Rockstar loves to penny pinch on licensing when it's not related to GTA Online. Er, I mean, Rockstar really cares about their legacy titles, you guize! Can't you tell?

In case anyone here wants an update, he's been posting more and more stuff on Twitter over the past few weeks instead, really skirting that "I can't post anything on MY website" rule, here's a San Andreas tidbit he's just spoke about and he's been answering questions from modders too...

Is this his real Twitter though? Idk, he talks as if he was the one who always found the solution to everything, and he mostly speaks about things that we already know for ages.
