Cfx.re (FiveM) is now a part of Rockstar Games

Nah they'll continue to maintain FiveM as is, and potentially anything future, but I don't think it's changing anything for current GTAO.

I know they're not leaving FiveM, since they're practically Rockstar devs now, I wonder if they can be moved around projects.

FiveM was always interesting to me, but I never played on there. I really like the miniscule amount of RP activities in GTAV/O and was always hoping that GTA6/O2 has way more of that stuff, so this is good news if it means anything of the sort.

I clicked on one of that and it worked fine, then I clicked the other two and I got access denied, now I can't even access the rockstar support website from anywhere. wtf?

🤔

After last year's "next GTA's" announcement I'm two ways about this.

One is

and the other

Which one are you guys?

Oh god you probably got caught by their CDN's rate limit, it takes quite a bit to resolve I think. They don't like people clicking too much in succession lmao.

I don't get how can anyone think, that this is good news.

Rockstar working with people instead of suing them is good news to me.

Imagine if they had done this with the Trilogy.

If they wanted to shut down FiveM they would've sent a cease and desist. They wouldn't have acquired them and still let them exist as a part of their company.

They've shown no ill will towards the various FiveM communities over the years, in fact, they've been quite accommodating recently.

They won't over-monetize FiveM simply because it already is. The damage has already been done, all they can do is take a cut from the aggressive monetization on servers that already exists.

As it stands right now there is nothing to indicate that this isn't good news. Cfx willingly entered this agreement and their operations as of now remain the same.

(Kind of wanted to put a post like this out there because these are three doomer posts people who have no idea how FiveM and RedM even work are putting all over social media)

How is it not good news?

How is Rockstar getting rid of biggest competitor a good news? Do I have to remind everyone what happened in 2015?

People here really seem to have a memory of goldfish.

What do you mean getting rid? They put up support articles on how to access their servers. It's more of an endorsement than anything.

Its a competitor built from their work. Like many have said they could've sued them into oblivion like they've done with other modders.

2015 was a messy time for modding but obviously seeing how successful FiveM has become since Rockstar seems willing to cooperate rather than eradicate.

@Spider-Vice a suggestion…

Please edit the new forum channel name to “FiveM / RedM / Cfx.re”

RedM, while not as big of a deal as FiveM, has lead to experiences just as cool and entertaining. There’s a thriving community that has spawned from RedM in recent years and it deserves more recognition.

If this whole ordeal leads to RedM getting more popularity then that on its own is a win.

Not in the normal sense. They're like a separate, very, very, small studio. That only works on FiveM and RedM. At least for now.

A competitor that *checks notes*…

…uses Rockstar’s content as the basis for their entire product lmao?

That’s a good idea.

From the sounds of it, yeah. It sounds like for the time being they will still manage FiveM/RedM and probably when needed Rockstar will now be able to shift their manpower to other projects when needed.

Ah, I see, what is the likelihood of them now having access to the next game's multiplayer component you think?

Name and description are just placeholders, this new board will be adjusted over time as needed.

They'll probably end up working on it at some point down the road.

Does anyone really expect Rockstar to keep session sizes to 32 and keep peer-to-peer when they own the dev team that made their engine work with 1000-player dedicated servers?

Please oh god don't repost my words as proof GTA 6 will have 1000 player servers...

...at most it'll be like 64

Despite their wording implying otherwise (for now) I kind of have a personal feeling they will be involved in the next online component. After all they've been acquired by R* pretty much. :p

Yeah neither Rockstar nor Cfx.re are just going to come out and explicitly say “yep we’re working on GTA6”

But it would be shocking if they aren’t involved in the project at all, whether in the next 2 years finishing up development, or post-launch.
