Roleplay Community Update
Cfx.re Joins Rockstar Games
August 11, 2023

Today, we are proud to announce that Cfx.re — the team behind the biggest Rockstar roleplay and creator communities, FiveM and RedM — are now officially a part of Rockstar Games.

Over the past few years, we've watched with excitement as Rockstar’s creative community have found new ways to expand the possibilities of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2, particularly through the creation of dedicated roleplay servers. As a way to further support those efforts, we recently expanded our policy on mods to officially include those made by the roleplay creative community.

By partnering with the Cfx.re team, we will help them find new ways to support this incredible community and improve the services they provide to their developers and players.

We look forward to sharing more in the weeks and months ahead.

STATEMENT FROM THE FiveM TEAM

Quote

Today we are extremely excited to announce that Cfx.re, the team behind the FiveM and RedM projects - is now officially a part of Rockstar Games!

This is a huge step forward in the growth of our community, and an opportunity for us to work with Rockstar Games to advance the FiveM platform and the creative community surrounding it.

While our day-to-day operations won’t have any noticeable changes, with Rockstar’s support, we are going to continue to improve our platform and we are truly excited for what this means for our users, community, and creators!

And for those curious about what else Rockstar is working on, please understand that our partnership with Rockstar Games is focused on our FiveM and RedM platforms. So please, do not ask us about the next GTA!

Thank you all for your support. We can’t wait to see what the future brings!

I don't see this having much impact on the current version of GTA Online, unless the next update or two somehow leans HEAVILY into the RP side of the community. Though with Cops n' Crooks being cut a few years ago, I doubt it. Definitely good news for the next GTA game though.

I know this is a rare W by R*

But can someone explain in simple terms (as I don't play Online) what this exactly means for GTA O and GTAVI O?

FiveM always had a lot of content and while I never tried any of the RedM servers, I have heard good things about it. Citizen Framework has come a long way ever since San Andreas. Great achievement indeed. Brings more hope for GTAO's future.

Role playing will likely be built in to the GTAO2 experience

Role playing related content for consoles is now a legitimate possibility for GTA Online (unlikely at this point in its life time) and/or GTA VI Online. This could include police/military/paramedic uniforms and vehicles, as well as in-depth role playing systems.

You know... As awesome as this is, I guarentee there's going to be a pay wall around this in some way.

I don't think this has anything to do with GTA:O, FiveM made bank. Maybe Rockstar wanted a piece of the pie? At the very least I suspect this will allow the team to get a copy of Gold VI to work on SixM.

What people don't see is that a lot of that RP gameplay is heavily dependent on real life brand objects/cars... I don't know if it's a good or bad thing tbh

Inbefore this is going to turn into fivem not being allowed to do anything anymore because it needs to pass the take two lawyers
