Do you ever wonder what life would be like if we got a proper followup to GTA IV? Called “GTA IV 2” or “GTA V”?

Role-Play Walkthrough

Imagine if GTA V was developed with the same goals as IV. The driving physics, the more intimate feeling in shooting combat, where enemies are downed without having to be completely dead every time, and basically just the whole feeling that IV provided, but with new characters, a new story, and set in a recreation of the urban part of Los Angeles made with the same amount of love and care as the recreation of New York that LC was.

the majority of the game could revolve around lower level hood crime with Franklin, and then maybe a little bit of the Michael FIB stuff just to explain how they can get away with killing cops and all that, like what Niko had with the IAA, but not to the same extent that it takes over the whole story like V.

Man, that would be amazing. I would pay billions and billions and BILLIONS of bucks just to play that game for a moments notice alone. There will never be another game like IV. I just wish we could get any other game with the satisfying driving and shooting that IV had

Most of us already feel that way, and all those have been the same wishes even before gtash*t5 came out.  It's a never ending talk and I'm afraid us IV fans will always be stuck in this game.

GTA V BETA was basically like that

GTA IV’s driving physics will never be replicated unless GTA IV gets a remaster/port.

It’s a shame though because I think the driving physics are great and it’s been that way since it released. I wish GTA V didn’t dumb down/weaken the driving physics so much, but it is what it is.

Regarding shooting GTA V has never felt good to me in this regard as GTA IV. I don’t know what it is, but shooting in GTA V again like the driving physics feels watered down.

I can turn on GTA IV, turn on manual aim and shooting feels boss, clean and crisp with a controller. GTA V feels like it’s missing something even though it shouldn’t.

I like this color scheme. Not too bright like in the GTA V we got, but not too gray like in the original GTA IV.

I think had Rockstar stick to the GTA IV's formula, they would expand the driving/shooting mechanics from there instead of starting over. And we would've had a LA setting with deep underworld lores and stories of our protagonists working for different criminals while running more grounded heists across San Andreas.

Can't blame Rockstar for this tbh. The driving physics got a big backlash when IV came out, people complained about how it was too heavy and hard to drive around. Rockstar just went back to the 3d era style driving physics with V.

While the gun sounds are better in IV, I think the actual shooting mechanics are much better in V. The character movement is also smoother in V compared to IV where Niko moves too slowly. Not as good as Max Payne 3's shooting, but V's still feels more cleaner than IV's.

GTA IV driving physics ain’t that bad but the car animations are extremely overkill. GTA V’s driving on the other hand is strange to me because at times it feels good but at other times feels like I’m not controlling anything, I don’t feel this way about PS2 era GTAs.

LCS specifically had the perfect driving with having great feeling physics and not so overkill animations. But for whatever reason they wanted to fix something that wasn’t broken then we ended up with IV and V’s driving.

I will say regarding the gunplay, SA was going in an interesting  direction with its smooth movement(mostly), using pistol and the likes with one hand only etc. but IV and V made a complete U turn. Now Niko and V’s protagonists hands are glued to the pistols.

GTA IV, for a game that includes shooting in 95% of its missions, the gunplay animations are very generic and movement is a bit clunky. Cover system is the worst, Niko may as well have a f*ckin seizure in cover. Physics are the best though.

GTA V doesn’t suffer from the poor cover system or clunky movement much but instead removes crouching and adds a completely useless stealth feature. Animations are better than IV’s but still very generic. Physics are fine but not as good as IV’s. The enemy AI mostly has aimbot and will get player’s health from %50 to %0 in a second.

Haha I love this. At least they resurrected briefly in 2018. We have yet to see whether they returned to the grave afterwards or not. Hopefully they are back for good.

They surprisingly resurrected as a zombie in 2018 then got beheaded in 2021 when Defective Editions rolled out

It'd still be called GTA 5 or at least GTA Los Santos

Yeah I know that part was mostly just meant to be humorous. Basically what I’m saying is I wish V had kept the spirit of IV

R* doesn't work on the principle of continuity. It likes to spin new webs, create new landscapes and leave the previous ones behind. Everybody in III is all but forgotten, same goes for Vice City and San Andreas. We were lucky that the TLAD returned in V, but that was more of a mixture of embarrassing and unsettling, as Trevor single handedly wiped it out. Niko was metioned, but his name didn't really carry much weight. So, if you want original content, GTA is for you. If not, you might want to look elsewhere.

I think you missed the point of what I’m saying. Also do you know about the difference between the 2D, 3D, and HD Universes? GTA III, VC, and SA were all loaded with cameos from characters from each other, and references to events from each other. Those games take place in a different universe from GTA IV, EFLC, and GTA V. And GTA V had way more than just the Lost. It also had Packie, Rocco, UL Paper, and lots of characters from IV. It doesn’t have any characters from the 3D universe because that’s a different universe

My mistake.

Yes, your commentary reminded me of Liberty City Stories. I was thinking of R* in general. I'll look up these cameos and get my facts right.

Sorry, but the title of your topic sounds funny. We did get a follow-up called GTA V.

I understand it wasn't what some expected, but I believe RDR and RDR2 inherited many traits from GTA IV. Honestly, I'm happy with what we got in the long run (IV should've gotten a remaster though).

Yeah the title is meant to be humorous and make people go “huh?” And then they click on it and they see what we mean

It’s all good and just to explain it better, when I say a followup I don’t mean just with continuity like continuing the story of GTA IV, I meant in terms of the gameplay. IV had much better physics, animations, aesthetics, driving, shooting, etc. all felt a lot more realistic in IV. Basically I’m fine with the story and characters and everything from V, I just wish they had kept the more realistic and visceral feeling of the gameplay that IV had

GTA IV is a superior game. They put more post production time into it, or they had a more balanced team. GTA V is a bit disappointing for a game that had five years of development. The knife is too strong and the fighting system is unfinished.
