Even the Xbox achievements don’t look the same, you might be onto something!

Just saw all the achievements hubbub... Right. So a while back I believe Rockstar updated most of their games' achievements on Social Club with higher res images, and I think that included games that no longer had a Social Club page for stats (RDR's was removed alongside Max Payne mobile's and so on).

 

The weird part is, and one I can't get a timeframe on, is that https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/games/rdr/ now returns a blank page instead of a 404 (no errors in the javascript console oddly) but it could have been doing this for at least a year. Max Payne mobile for instance correctly returns a 404: https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/games/maxpayne/

 

Social Club website code changes are easily trackable, and AFAIK there was nothing RDR related recently. As for the achievements images, I tried to look into their Last-Modified date on the request headers but because they're on a CDN it looks like this date gets refreshed often and will not be meaningful of anything - even RDR2's images have the same dates.

 

It's hard to say whether this is meaningful or not as I'm pretty sure at some point last year they've uploaded high res images for every game.

All of this is unfortunately inconclusive because they made sweeping changes to some Social Club assets a while back, which could have included RDR even if it's unused. The odd part is the page being blank instead of a 404...

Didn't imply it was new, I in fact even said it's unknown for how long it's been like this. There were no changes related to RDR in the Social Club code so it makes sense that it's older. There's still the achievements being reuploaded in higher quality alongside a logo and background, which could imply an achievements page like the Definitive Editions, and some achievements being outright remade with RDR2 style splatters and other things.

This background is still very low res but it's using the same file name standard (automatically chosen by Rockstar's React site code depending on your resolution) as all the other achievement pages like GTA IV and GTA Trilogy DE:

Maybe not, a lot do seem remade. The question is for how long has that been there as they changed a bunch of achievements a while back to have higher quality versions - difference being those RDR ones are outright remade in cases (if not all cases).

It's interesting that the multiplayer ones were remade, too. Dunno if by accident, but I would be very surprised if whatever version of RDR this is (remaster/remake) also includes MP.

In my opinion, it looks as if they have vectored the old/blurry icons. Typically with vectorisation of lower quality/smaller images, it can't retain as much information when outputting the traced image. If you look closely, the old icons have more detail than the new ones so it looks like a straight image trace/vectorization to me.

i think same was for IV.

you can i think still see the MP achievements from IV on the social club page even though MP is gone from CE

For this case, I can see an artist being tasked to revectorise every single achievement without knowing it's an MP achievement. It's probably just a mistake tbh, I can't see them bringing back OG RDRO.

Well, regardless of method they went to that effort, but again the real question is how long it's actually been like this. We can sit here analysing those icons and the fact they're new but we're not yet sure when they truly were changed because no one dug through RDR stuff when they changed some of the other games' icons on the Social Club

Just checked, it's true. https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/games/gtaiv  Social club contains MP achievements for the PC platform, while Steam does not show them.

I don't think the game will be announced today. It seems a bit premature today tbh. If I were to speculate, I would say it might happen on this upcoming Thursday or Friday next week, accompanied by a small teaser. This approach would be reminiscent of how they unveiled The Trilogy by sharing a small animated video, followed by additional information in the following weeks.
