Project Overthrow and LSA Operations discussions

Recommended Posts

Let's use this space to discuss the 6 new missions by Charlie in 'Project Overthrow' and the three LSA operations found inside the Avenger via the operations terminal. How did you find these missions and did you enjoy the narrative? What do you think are the future implications of the LSA story (if any)? And Do you have any tips to share with the community?

For the second mission, which most players are not used to dogfights, they will have to battle with a enemy Avenger towards the end of the mission, or two Avengers if they're playing it on hard.

The Avengers got buffed armor and the enemies inside of them will use the cannons, a homing missile merely takes a sliver of their health and their cannons destroys you flying the new jet in a single hit.

So, for the best strategy for this is to lure out the Avengers to follow you towards Raton, but then you do a 180 turn and fly towards Cape Catfish instead, and then you FLY VERY LOW ABOVE THE ALAMO sea.

If you do it correctly, the enemy NPCs will sink their Avengers into the Alamo Sea, making the rest of the fight much easier.

Did I just get extremely lucky, and the avengers didn't even use their weapons once?

They just kind of hovered there, and only one of them even tried to run away when I started blasting it

I honestly enjoyed these missions more than I thought I would. I haven't played them on hard mode yet so I guess that could change lol. I really like that the Avenger gets an actual use in the game, that it's not just a base of operations like so many other money sinks in the game.

Plus, there's just something about flying by helicopter in the middle of a storm and parachuting onto an aircraft carrier while Fortunate Son is playing in the background that is just *chef's kiss* . Honestly that moment is what made the update for me

For the mission with destroying the avengers, you can hover with your jet close to the water of the sea. For whatever reason those avengers always try to fly lower than you and drown themselves lol. You can also fly to the windfarm and let the turbines destroy them.

I think it's the 3rd mission to avoid confusion, I mostly died from chrashing into enemy planes until I used hover mode or however you call it in English, on easy the Avenger did not defend itself and it was only one, I just shot it with the explosive gun until it was destroyed, man did I hate this mission.

As for the 2nd mission where you collect the crates, start at the location offshore and then go to Alamo sea, this mission would be easy I guess with a team of two or more, but on easy and starting offshore it was not difficult, only annoying. 2nd and 3rd are the worst missions ever as far as I can remember, only underwater explosives prep for Casino Heist is worse.

The rest of the mission are not particularly difficult, the 1st one is rather boring. 5 and 6 are missions we basically had before, I kinda liked 4 (where the jet chases you).

From the 3 other missions that are no contact missions I liked the one where we break into the IAA facility.

Does anyone know how the accuracy stat works in the game?

I'm trying to complete all the new challenges, which include the ones that require "over 80% accuracy" in contact missions. And I'm stuck on "On Demand" in the new Project Overthrow missions. Yesterday I succesfully completed it with what should be 100% accuracy, I hit absolutely all my shots using homing missiles. But it didn't validate the challenge.

So now I'm confused as to how it works. Are you supposed to only use the cannon? That would be hell.. Or do shots taken from a vehicle not count towards the accuracy stat? That would render the challenge impossible to complete, since you cannot get out of the Raiju during the mission..

If someone has any info/tip, I'd greatly appeciate it!

Other than the second mission, where you have to swim underwater while helicopters are shooting at you, I thought these missions were pretty decent. However, the payout is laughable, and I don't see myself ever playing these again. There was so much potential for these missions, had there been more replayability and more use of other aircraft other than just the Avenger. I think I preferred the LSA operations more since they take place in free mode, and one of them features the aircraft carrier. They could have been so much better though. Let us steal a jet as the main vehicle for the aircraft carrier mission, let us choose how to board the ship, and let us do the carpet bombing for the other mission instead of a cutscene.

R* could have incorporated the other new aircraft into the missions, weaponized Conoda and Streamer216 to check them out and unlock trade prizes.

How many variations have people encountered for these three LSA operations and what were the bonus objectives?

LSA Operation - Direct Action

LSA Operation - Surgical Strike

LSA Operation - Whistleblower

I've only played each once and encountered the following:

DA - parachute onto the aircraft carrier during a storm, search for and steal a toreador (obtain keycard from bridge) and drive it back to LSA lockup

Bonus - Kill a MW juggernaunt

SS - hack a target's phone, go to Martin's ranch (can use MW disguise) to plant tracers for P to airstrike. Steal a Menacer and drive back to LSA lockup.

Bonus - photograph blueprints (UFO)

WB - Steal EMP from NOOSE building, infiltrate IAA base in the dark to steal server drives for a journalist (same base as Doomsday)

Bonus - retrieve documents on LSA

@Tez2 Are there any hidden operations/ variations that are not released yet?

I've had Bonus photograph blueprints and Bonus retrieve artifact for that one. There seem to be quite a few variations (location and bonus) for each, and they seem to be connecting to the upcoming alien mystery thingy.

I would love to know this as well, I did the Bon Voyage yacht mission at least 15 times between yesterday and the say before trying to get the accuracy but I couldn't.

I don't know how the game calculates the accuracy.

For the first mission in Project Overthrow, I thought about how I do other missions and just drove the car back on the train tracks.

The funny thing is if you do that, when you get to the point they stop chasing you, you are right by the drop off point. The train tracks let you out near one of the bunker Dune FAV five drop off spots.

For the 2nd mission I think I'mma play around with having the Avenger on auto pilot over the cargo spot by Stab City. I did that for the other crate, hovered right outside the yellow area and used the thruster to land on the barge. The crate seems to always be under that barge.

No matter what, once you get in the yellow area or destroy a vehicle they start attacking.

The missions are painfully unfun and uninspired.

First mission was so boring I just had to check what it was about;

Second mission was just annoying with the enemy spawn. I've also got the bug where my Avenger respawned under the water and I couldn't call in for another one...;

The less we say about the third one, the better;

Fifth one was just the DDH, but much more watered down;

Final mission: exciting crate pushing...

The only one I've enjoyed is Breaking Ranks. I've liked that you could stealth it out and I liked the escape at the end...

Btw, noticed that in 3rd LSA mission where we must steal EMP and raid IAA facility, when you enter it, you can see the gate a bit opened but you can't pass due to small gap. I was curious if there's an Easter Egg like a Juggernaut in Autoshop IAA raid contract, so walked around through halls with servers, glass doors were locked but I could break windows and pass. There was nothing interesting, just another elevator used in finale of Doomsday Act 1 (same interior), dunno why they bothered adding another elevator instead of re-using existing one. Anyway this area was perfect to hide something in.

I liked the new missions. They're certainly not perfect, but after the sickening LSDW missions, these are quite playable. (Haven't tried hard mode yet.)

I'm still annoyed by bots that appear 3 meters behind me and fire pocket miniguns. Is it really funy to suddenly die in a split second? I just cleared this room, I go down the stairs and a bot appears behind me and immediately sends me to restart. Just a couple of questions for Rockstar: Do you really think this is normal gameplay? Do you really think I will repeat this amazing experience over and over again? Nope.

But this problem didn't come with that DLC.

Lmao!!

I forgot what most of you posted before, but I've been trying the 2nd mission some more and it seems like you were on to something.

You can see the cargo from outside the yellow area. You can also trigger finding it from outside that area. But...I think as long as you dont put the camera directly on it to trigger finding it, it will still ping as found when you go in the water.

I tried finding it with no camera at all and that is a death sentence. It does work but you need to know at least the general area because the heli lights your ass up. And the arrow will never show up. Also the cargo will be in different spots. But so far the one by the barge still seems to be near it.  That barge does provide some cover, thats why I wanted to hover the Avenger at Stab City.

And somehow I can do the barge one without triggering them finding me until I get in the yellow area. Maybe my missile locked on in Stab City but they always find me there before I even get in the search area. So far my plan is hover and use the Thruster. In Stab City its tricky, landing on the barge is perfect.

Drug Wars had at least a storyline, new characters and a new enemy, the missions were challenging (solo) but not unfair or frustrating. It was way better than this DLC and added more interesting vehicles.

LSDW should've had a luchadore wrestling ring added to the Fooligan LS warehouse like Ganton Gym did in GTA:SA. Just a little side earner and a nod to the cage fighting we got in TBoGT. You could fight npc's or your friends and place bets. The Fooliganz would gather around the ring and Luchadora could've been the referee. It could've also been an alternative method to increasing your health stat.

I'm a sucker for animated cutscenes (minority, i know), as they help immerse me into the world being portrayed. If every DLC is a phonecall and a set of subtitles, i'm less inclined to stay engaged in your content.

SS- My location for this was Humane Labs. In WB I had the option to blow up the generator to keep the lights permanently off.

In DA I have no clue what the secondary was, I would have to go on deck to find it, but there were too many soldiers respawning to deal with.

Is there another topic where this question could be asked and hopefully answered maybe? I am brand new to the forum I don't really know where to go

You can create a new topic solely for discussing the new career progression within this DLC sub-topic, surprised we don't have one by now!

And like how you can name your acid product, you can choose a wresting name from a list! Luchadora would announce it before each fight (e.g. El Diablo, El Jefe, Bonecrusher etc) and add in some wrestling / Fooliganz clothing to buy :)

And should have added 'Long Tall Sally' for the start of the aircraft carrier operation -

I noticed that the Avenger AI is incredibly inconsistent. I went after them multiple times attempting straight up fights before I decided to cheese it.

I survived a single cannon hit while attempting to hover strafe on attempt one. I didn't survive the follow up.
Attempt two and I made repeated passes with missile spam at high speed. Very inconsistent hits on my part, but the Avengers probably fired at me one out of every four passes. I fumbled and passed too low before eating a powerline or something.
Attempt three and I repeated my attempts at passing but stuck to the Alamo sea. Same general thing where they only fired at me every few passes, but they suddenly two shot aimbotted me out of the sky.

Attempt four and I was tired of wasting time and cheesed it using the "fly low and bait them" technique. Avenger one went down fast. Avenger two got stuck on what I think was a power pole, but I never got close enough to verify. I had to double back from the windmills and it was stuck on something just beside the small train bridge near the trailer park. I could see it hovering in place, attempting to fly forward as the nose was down, and it was doing this sideways wobble back and forth. I managed to missile spam it to death at that point.

All in all, I like the premise of the story and missions, but the execution needs some work. It was clearly designed for multiple players and I would have probably loved them if I still had my old crew. With the exception of the turbo buffed Avengers.

Reading different post around the web...some ppl must don't know you can fly the Thruster out of the Avenger. Press triangle on Playstation to get in.

I see ppl parachuting out the Avenger then calling it, lol.

From what I recall, that's an upgrade and isn't the same thruster as the one you buy alone. I haven't found a way to upgrade it, either. They're probably using the call in for the weapons.

Some missions are quite enjoyable, not the best in the game, but they are alright.

LSA missions = Fixed style/type of missions (like the Terrorbyte) plus variables and the with the dificulty system used on the Freeroam Agency's Security Contracts.

Spoiler

Direct Action: Nothing like doing the same thing as the Aircraft Carrier Business Battle freeroam mission with some small diferences, if this mission could be made in full stealth then i would actually enjoy it.

Surgical Strike: It's fine ... some classic ol' hacking with some tracer planting, but this can be made in Stealth, deliver the ride ... nothing extraordinary, but we get the Merryweather outfit so IT'S NICE. (Green Goo throwback as a bonus was nice to see too).

Whistleblower: Agency Deal thowback with some pre-Cargobob fun pain and without the fast MF rides, all bonus objectives of this mission are interesting, liked this mission.

Project Overthrow missions: While can be made in solo, those are mainly meant to be made with a team ... the last 3 missions are easily the best missions of the new set of missions. (Shi*ty payout for the effort + time spent is a hell of a let down).

Spoiler

1st mission ... it's nice the use of the Davis Quartz Quarry, i believe it needed more objectives outside destroy x to get y to deliver in z. (But since it is R*).

2nd mission ... Salvageable Cargo returns ... i hated this mission, nothing like taking a rocket in the ass after getting a crate underwater.

3rd mission ... is for people which are more seasoned in the use of jets, while most of the mission is literally something which anyone which dealed with air-freight cargo knows well, the last part with the Avenger isn't ... and man taking down those things in hard mode was annoying. one thing that made the mission something to remember.

4th mission ... the use of Stealth is something which i like, first part of the mission is simple, but hey ... at least is in a location which don't have much missions around, the second part is nice, running from rockets is fun and the use of Rooster as proper support was nice. (Best Mission for me).

5th Mission: Act 1: Data Server Prep's strike back with some Action from the Act 2 Finale ... i liked this mission, last part was cool and kind of annoying in some aspects.

6th mission .... WHY WHEN WE ENTER IN THE MERRYWEATHER HQ IS TO STEAL SOMETHING ? ... like all missions in that cursed place ... STEAL SOMETHING, after destroying jammers BUT TO MAKE THINGS interesting ... PUSH A CRATE. (Doing this with a team was nice, made the mission quite enjoyable).

-

I believe the 4th and 5th missions should had a optional way of finishing/doing them in a FULL STEALTH run aka by bring able to use the Avenger to deliver the Rumpo or by fleeing NOOSE HQ with Avi without the last combat part ... i know the focus IS the combat for this mission, but at least would make Stealth a viable way of doing the mission. (And would easily make them far more interesting for the general people in the long run).
