Should I downgrade to 1.0?

Recommended Posts

I'm about to play Vice City for the first time which is very exciting but before I start I'm wondering if I should play the Steam version or if there's any reason to downgrade it to 1.0 like I did for San Andreas. For modding perhaps?

I know SilentPatch works in both versions so I'm really not sure.

Listing some pros and cons would be very much appreciated

Thanks in advance

First I would check whether the removed songs are still intact in the Steam version because music is the heart and soul of Vice City. Rockstar said they cut some music from the Steam version, but in reality they didn't touch them at all. Start a new game, get in a vehicle and turn the radio to Flash FM. If you hear Billie Jean then the good news is that Rockstar still didn't cut any music.

The only con to the Steam version, as far as I am aware, is that it's not moddable. If that doesn't bother you and the music is still intact then there is no reason to downgrade to 1.0 afaik

Where do you own the game first of all? I'd recommend you the mod I am using, at least if your PC could handle it, has even a working mouse look and it does launch from steam. If you will downgrade from somewhere else you won't be able to open it from steam.

I think it's the best way to experience the original game.

A little trick i found when launching a downgraded version of San Andreas, that also worked with a modded RTC Wolfenstein, is that you can duplicate the .exe file and rename the copy to what the steam launcher recognises as the game. That way when you try to start the game through steam, it will start the .exe it recognises but the modded version will launch instead! I haven't tried with Vice City, but i assume it should work too

Nothing beats original copy though, I have saved my CD install with the NO-CD crack : Runs everywhere even from an USB drive.

But, as many of these old games, you should just try to get a ripped .ISO files at the usual places. I mean, the fact that Rockstar has the audacity to still wanting to make money out of this old stuff is just outrageous : This media had been already profitable for ages now !
