Nostalgia in GTA VI

What are some of the nostalgic stuff from past games you want to see recreated or referenced in GTA VI?

This is just my example in GTA V, I really love cruising around the freeway to north of Los Santos in GTA SA, the one with the dirt mound under the flyover. I was glad to see a similar flyover with dirt mound underneath is present in GTA V, near the windmills. Same for those circular/winding intersection near the dirt mound, which can be found north of Palomino Highlands in GTA V.

To get to the point, I'd love to see more of the scenario above where I get to relive moments from past games into the current game. Kinda feeling sad that San Fierro and Las Venturas weren't remade for the HD era. The Definitive Edition just couldn't quite sell the nostalgia to me.

Since we're talking about GTA VI, then Vice City has to be mentioned. Escobar Airport and the Golf Club were one of the few memorable places in GTA VC, but they fare below the list because of the cons of entering them (they take your weapons off). The dilapidated streetwannabes mansion was also very memorable to me. The memories are still fresh, even though I was on the 2nd grade when I first came upon it.

As for a scenario I'd want to recreate, it's gotta be testing out how high the swimming pool gets, and also risk drowning just to boat around the islands.

VI needs to recreate the North Point Mall, because the New Age music will forever be stuck in my head:kekw: Plus, it is a very important part of Miami irl, so.

I’d love an actual enterable mall in VI. Malls are one of the last remaining relics of the 80’s

One of the only things Defective Edition did right was the North Point Mall, if they remake it well in VI, they can probably make it more reminiscent of the actual Aventura Mall seen here (which actually opened in 1984!):

Spoiler

Malibu Club is confirmed I think, from the leaks?

I completely forgot about Washington Mall, Bal Harbor Shoppes is also such an iconic place.

Flash FM with DJ Toni constantly reminiscing about the good old days when she was young and popular. Now she's the old lady annoying famous British bands and even throwing herself at them, I mean, jeez!

Honestly I'd love to see returning radio stations from VC, not necessarily every single one of them but a couple at least would be great. I think it's time for Fernando Martinez to make another comeback.

No way I'd ever forget about this mall. Has to be the best place in the entire game, on par with the mansion. I've never been to a mall when I was still playing VC and it was my first taste into that kind of place. I just hope it's not a useless accessible interior in that there should be Ammu-nation, clothing stores, ARCADE!! F'n ARCADE!! and other activities inside the mall. Please, R* Please!

They need to be in VI as Easter Eggs. Two former gangsters, Mario and his buddy.

Lots of memorable songs in VC. Too bad, I was too young to appreciate them when I first played. I hope we get at least a remix of those songs or they give us other songs from the same artists.

Look at these videos and tell me that Ocean View Hotel wasn't nostalgic. XD This is why I love interiors with windows, AKA Real Interiors.

Except in proper modern fashion, 80% of the storefronts are empty because most malls are dead.

Is that so? We do a lot of online shopping where I live and malls are still overcrowded most of the time and there's always a demand for personal shopping in malls. Filipinos are very social and tight-knit anyway, so that might be a factor.

It'd probably crush my heart to see North Point and Washington Malls looking empty.

Considering there's even an entire subreddit about abandoned malls, mostly in the US, because people just don't use them as much, I wouldn't be surprised if R* did have an "abandoned" mall or two in the game - perhaps even the North Point Mall, as a reference to an once bustling 80's mall that is now dead, but still pretty on the inside.

That could be the point of it, much like it crushes some people's heart IRL to see malls from their childhood now dead. :p

Considering even Dutch in RDR2 says "there's always a God damn train", at this point I'd consider it part of Rockstar story lore :prismkek:

@Spider-Vice

Oh, I almost forgot about that sub. It crushes my heart remembering it RN. Back in 2020, I was mostly into Reddit and I stumbled upon posts about malls closing down, even a strip mall, then stumbled upon that sub.

They could turn those malls into gang or drug dens. It'd be make for a horror element hearing people post about being attacked by junkies in the HD North Point Mall or some youtuber claiming to hear the North Point Mall theme in an edited video. Then some dude mods the game and claims a crazed ghost Infernus is running wild in the mall.

I wonder if they'd do the opposite on the abandoned Shark/wannabes mansion and have it gentrified, but it's no longer accessible.

That reminds me, if they do make an "abandoned" version of the North Point Mall they should definitely reuse a higher quality version of that jingle. Like it's never changed since the 80's :kekw:

If it's dilapidated, then I think the compressed quality could work. But, whatever they do, there should be a voice-over IDs and stuff like some parent looking for their child at X location.

Anyway, playing these old games as an adult really makes the lack of interactivity off-putting. I've never felt this way when I was still growing up playing these games, but lately, I'd been feeling creeps more and more. Maybe HD-era humans actually doing something in the world spoiled me after going back to the 3D-era games where the pedestrians are just limited to walking or shooting each other.

I'd been playing the 3D-era games lately and just realized how creepy these games are, especially inside interiors. Maybe it's the outdated sound design or they just lost the charm. Every time I went to North Point in the Definitive VC, I felt creeped out at the amount of people walking around, supposedly doing something. Only to realize the stores are closed, the tables and chairs are empty, the shops with visible stuff inside don't have people inside....

Also when shopping in GTA SA, it's really weird hearing the radio play out, almost like it's not even in the room, then seeing all these people shopping all day without buying anything. Then I went to the 24/7 store near Unity Station and it was even more immersive, but it was off-putting seeing all those people just walk around. It's like they're there, but not quite there. IDK how to say it clearly.

I would love a reference to that car showroom safehouse in the 2nd Island. Used to love hanging out there.

Toni was in that headspace already in GTAIII, so they'd probably make her somewhat different in 2020s. She frequently reminisced about her 70s/80s days in the aptly named Flashback FM:

Quote

"Ah, 1983. I played the trumpet a lot back then, if you know what I mean. What would have happened to Marcel? Every night at all the clubs. God, that one night, was it Marcel? ...or was it Mary. Oops, sorry. Having one of those other flashbacks, flashbacks, flashbacks."

"So my friends say: Toni, do you remember the 70s and 80's? And I say: well; I certainly don't remember anything else since then."

"This one reminds me of waking up on the Duran Duran tour bus. What's his name? The one with the highlights and the mascara? He was wearing this great jacket with shoulder pads and he started playing along to this song on a kazoo. We were wild." (this Duran Duran part was muted in evey release version, here's an unmuted clip found only in the GTAIII website)

I'd love to see Fernando and specifically, Maurice Chavez to be back, though. Fernando probably will be back as he is very heavily connected to Vice City itself and appeared in every GTA since 2001, except IV, LCS and, CTW, and he did come back as the host of Vice City FM in EFLC. He actually has the most number of appearances in the franchise only behind Lazlow.

Yeah, it's been done before but they can still do something similar again, perhaps by mixing it up a little with Toni having a younger co-host like she used to be in VCS. Or instead have her be done with the 80s and all the nostalgia surrounding it, at this point they can do whatever they want with her. It got me thinking, would she still be a DJ on this station more than 30 years later?

Flash FM is just one of the stations I want back the most. It'd be fun to hear Maurice Chavez again as well.

Probably not, the real mall it is based on is regularly VERY busy.

Of all the things in the footage to have leaked, seeing the vice city metro mule after having a worn down logo of it back in 2018 is ironic to me.
