LiniArc
Hi GTAF Tech Community, I have a gaming rig that I got assembled (from a shop) in 2015 and am looking to upgrade it (basically the CPU) and am looking for recommendation/ suggestions on how to go about it. First and foremost my current specifications are as under:- CPU: i7 4790K (Devils Canyon) GPU: EVGA Classified 980Ti RAM: 8GB X 2 (Guess its 1333 Mhz) MoBo: Gigabyte Z97x Gaming 3 (Its LGA1150 iirc) Cabinet: Cooler Master CM690 III SMPS: 750W Cooler Master SSD: SN570 Complaints about current build: No WiFi on MoBo (so had to use external adapter which sucks btw, I mean I only use Ethernet but whatever would be good to have incase main internet is down), thermals on 4790K are not the best (I live in India and it can get hot sometimes, so am looking for something that has great CPU thermals out of the box if possible because I dont want to spend too much on premium coolers and stuff) My Main Game: Rainbow Six Siege (Currently get anywhere around 160 to 220fps on all low 1080p, 4:3) What I am looking for in new build? I play fps games and want to high consistent 240fps minimum (so lets aim at 360 on High/ Medium settings maybe so the dips arent that low), I currently have 144Hz monitor but may upgrade to 240 or 360Hz with a 1080p 24"/ 1440p 27" in future once the rig is ready. So I think a 6700XT was an option, or maybe a 3070 RTX which is more expensive. I have used GTX 1070 on my laptop and found that its Low Latency mode (Reflex set to ON+Boost) felt very responsive. Aint telling my 980Ti is bad but idk it just felt so instant to shoot with it ON. My only doubt is AMD's implementation of this low latency feature might be kinda wack. Also, Siege is very CPU heavy so I dont want my system to bottleneck. So keeping that in mind, I wonder what CPU, GPU, Motherboard and RAM to upgrade (keeping my Cabinet size in mind). What I am going to do is sell my Alienware 17R4 laptop and invest that money into upgrading my PC and little bit more here and there. So like 1000-1200$ upgrade at max roughly. If the GPU is very expensive I can get someone from abroad to hand carry for me because the prices in India are too high sometimes, but other components I shall definitely buy from India. So in a nutshell feel free to ask any questions, and point out how dumb I am xD, but hey help a fellow gamer out haha. Best! Jimmy
I wouldn't recommend that you go with 13th generation of Intel processors if you're looking for something doesn't heat much in Indian conditions. My friend's i7 13700K heats upto 100C even with an AIO Liquid Cooler (NZXT Kraken) in an AC room (Hogwarts Legacy, I'm looking at you). Also, if you're looking for a decent case that's good on thermals, go with Lian Li O11 Dynamic. I recently started using it and my thermals on GPU's Ultra Settings have dropped all the way from 90C to 79-80ish. MSI has a good range of Mobo's that you can try under the Tomahawk range or else Gigabyte's Aorus series has great WiFi capabilities. Also, if you can shell the extra money, the MSI version of RX 6700XT is really stable and might just last longer. Stay away from ROG Cards or Asus TUF. They run too hot and tend to go out really soon. LiniArc
I kinda narrowed down to these specifications after some research:- GPU: 6950XT Sapphire NITRO+ CPU: Ryzen 7600X (for AM5) MOBO: B650 Tomohawk WiFi MSI CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 CM PSU: CX750M 750W Feel like it will be more upgradable in future if I need to. Also read about Reflex and how its only necessary in GPU bound scenarios so guess wont need it when my fps are high anyways. Btw its been a while, Long time no see haha! If you can get someone to import the 6950XT, it'll be a steal deal. Much approachable compared to a 3080. The Sapphire prices here aren't pretty at all. Also, the new die's like it hot (thermals). AM5 based board is future proof and hence good call and same for the Processor. For the CPU Cooler, go with an AIO. You're going for a much powerful GPU, expect the 7600X to float around 76 degrees on an average. Liquid Cooler should help you keep the average at bay. Try looking at Deepcool's offerings. Let's catch up sometime buddy. sivispacem
Don't go AIO, there's no performance advantage over a decent tower cooler. Jason
AIO in my experience is just easier. Good fan coolers are more fan/case dependent in my experience, where an AIO should have solid performance out of the box. I went from air to AIO to air and I regret not going AIO my self, I'll be going back to it with my next build. yoječ
I'd go for AiO if: - the case isn't big enough for high end air coolers (not relevant here, CM693 is a beast) - you don't want to put extra stress on the motherboard (typically it's not an issue) - you just want to be fancy (which is a valid point in itself) Otherwise, a high-end air cooler will easily rival even a decent (although not the best of the best) AiO for a lower price. I have an AiO just because I run an mITX build, I wouldn't even consider it otherwise.
