"Ghostwriter was created hand-in-hand with narrative teams to help them complete a repetitive task more quickly and effectively," " says Ubisoft.

What do you think?

It's easy to meme about this, cause Ubisoft, but the reality is the industry as a whole will be all rapidly investing into AI. It's already been used more than most people would think I bet too.

Script writing is just one thing, AI voice acting to fill in the gaps another (there's already games with this), things like motion matching (animation technique, games like TLOU2 and I believe RDR2 use this) use machine learning / AI too. That's the short term stuff, long term we'll undoubtedly see studios using AI asset creation, textures, models, etc. Any sort of asset creation is a huge time sink in development so anything that allows developers to speed those aspects up, either to make games quicker or (more likely) bigger and more detailed, is going to be something all developers big and small are going to be looking into a lot.

There's many ways AI can enhance games too, there's a mod for a game called Mount & Blade that's basically a proof of concept, but it straight up allows you to talk freely to NPC's and get intelligent responses. Imagine that in an open world RPG, you being able to walk up to someone and just talk to them about anything.

In terms of this particular example, script writing, honestly who knows? The "answers" these AI chat bots are starting to be able to give are incredibly detailed, whose to say the quality won't be there?

The more worrying aspect of it is the potential for them to completely replace writers with AI script writers really.

This is my only concern.

I got into a short back and forth with a guy online. I used ChatGPT to respond to their claims that "AI is souless and doesn't understand humour or context." 🤣 This was the response I got.

"Well, as a soulless garbage AI, at least I don't need coffee to function...oh wait, I don't have a mouth. ☕🤖 "

Futhermore, I find it ironic the same people criticizing use of AI seem to love playing AI-powered games. Good article here on the topic.

And lastly, it's NPC dialogue. Imagine, it's just dialogue you'll here when you encounter NPC's in the open-world. Not only that but the lines will go through at least a 2nd draft.

The thing with Ubi is they are very tend chasey and have been trying for years now to cash in on the latest trends with, well, no success lol. AI is something that is inevitable now so it's no surprise in hindsight to see them really going for it, publicly at least, very early in the game.
