Yes, it's a 3D era game so frame limiter should always be on for the best/intended experience.

I know but I didn't know if you happened to implement the speed change to work with the frame limiter being turned off since a lot of people prefer playing with a higher framerate. I was also making sure I didn't make the mission easier than it was meant to be etc.

Most changes use existing R* opcodes for stability's sake, which ofc are also designed with 30fps in mind. As a rule, I'd never spend time test anything outside of that range as I'd also never recommend playing these games (or these mods) without frame limiter in the first place. Even things like 'Framerate Vigilante' etc don't fully fix things, so it's never worth the trade-off. Not to mention that as these things are developed with speedrunners as the main audience, frame limiter being on is a prerequisite.

So yes, every mission is very much intended to be played with frame limiter on. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more missions made much harder/impossible with it off - I know that's true of Tightened Vice with 'Stunt Boat Challenge', for example.

Hello, I've run into a problem where the game just crashes when taking misty to joey's. I've tried disabling cores, running at 30 fps, both at the same time, but it doesn't seem to work. Could it just be the base game being uncompatible with the mod?

The only time I've ever seen this happen was due to a core affinity problem, where setting it to 1 solved the issue.

Not entirely sure what you mean by "the base game being incompatible with the mod", are you using a particularly strange version of GTA III as a base, or combining with other mods?

Hi, have you solved this problem yet? I have the same. As far as I understand, the problem is that I stand on the blue marker in the Leone suit. Also, if I start a mission not in the standard outfit (Claude Speed), the game also freezes and crashes. How to solve this - I don't know, I have version 1.9.

It won't have anything to do with outfits, I can at least tell you that much.

No further ideas beyond core affinity here though, not something I can replicated on either of my machines.

I'm having an issue starting the game. I've pasted the contents of the zip over a fresh Steam install and the game does load into the initial menu, but when I try and start a new game the progress bar fills up and the game stops responding. Is there any way I could provide any kind of logs for this issue, seeing as it doesn't crash, but simply hangs?

 

EDIT: @_Rob_, I've localized the problem down to III.VC.SA.LimitAdjuster.asi - If I remove it from the installation the game starts up fine. If I'm guessing correctly it's mostly needed for IIILodLights.asi to function properly, no?

 

Also, another interesting thing I noticed is that III.VC.SA.WindowedMode.asi changes how the in-game effects are rendered, with some post-processing seemingly gone if it's present.

Limit adjuster not being present may also result in some instability down the line, especially when you get to added vehicles an interiors. As for windowed mode removing effects, can't say I've heard of that before, are you sure you don't just have trails turned off (maybe windowed mode changes the default there, not entirely sure)?

For the actual loading issue, not something I can remember seeing or hearing about with Thrice; without a crash address it'll be very hard to nail down. Are you absolutely sure no other mods are present, or that your firewall hasn't blocked something from being extracted when you unzipped everything?

I just checked and trails are still enabled, but, funnily enough, disabling them makes the post-processing come back (minus the actual trails).

Just double-checked and yes, I have Thrice installed into a completely fresh GTA III installation with any leftover of previous installations being manually wiped beforehand.

In regards to potential data loss during unzipping, I also checked that and the file size before and after unzipping matches (5 495 280 404 bytes), so no loss of data there.

 

I might attempt to leave the game open for half an hour or so to see if it eventually does decide to crash, in the hopes of some sort of crash log dropping in the process.

 

EDIT: I did an experiment and downloaded the latest version of III.Project2DFX - replaced the files provided by Thrice with the updated ones and the game started up without any problems.

P.S. To be extra sure I tried both with the III.VC.SA.LimitAdjuster.ini values from Thrice and and the ones that came with the new version of Project2DFX and both seemed to work fine.

@_Rob_ Since that's all it took to fix it, you might want to consider including the updated version of the script in future Thrice versions (or just leave a note somewhere as a possible troubleshooting option 😛).

 

EDIT2: I did get ONE random crash to happen:

Unhandled exception: c0000005
At address: 246016d0

...now entertaining the thought on whether updating SilentPatch to the latest version would also benefit it...  :D

All so very odd lol, glad you found a fix that seemingly works! The trails is strange though, gotta love the inconsistency!

If there is another patch down the line, I'd probably include the update versions of those plugins by default, so that's very good to know!

After during first mission, game asks you to grab van, and drive it to safehouse. 

When I did it, it left safehouse marker on map. And now during each mission there is 2nd marker pointed out to first save location. Any idea what could be reason behind this?

If do things in a very specific order, I believe the script doesn't delete the marker like it should. I've "solved" it several times, but it keeps coming back it seems!

guys, i have a problem. i've downloaded vanila gta 3 then added tightened thrice mod. trying to open the game - intro, main title and then game closes. i ve tried everything from opening in 640x800 to opening with administrator rights - nothing changes, help please

Might be that you need to override DPI scaling in exe compatibility, or it could be that you need to set a different resolution in the WidescreenFix ini (usually happens if you're on a small laptop screen or w/e).

I would put a picture of what happens, but it would be in Portuguese


Could be that the archive didn't download properly? If it's only Head then you could use the vanilla file, but ofc you'd be missing some of the expanded radio.
Alternatively I'd suggest redownloading, but it seems you've perhaps already done that?

Yeah, I have - funnily, thrice - and I always have the same problem.
I think it may be a Dropbox problem...? 'Cause I tried to download another link from Dropbox (the streamer friendly one) and now GAME.wav was the corrupted one; both HEAD.wav and GAME.wav are the last archives of their respective files.
If the only addition to HEAD Radio was the entire LCS HEAD Radio along with the original one, then I can try to edit that for myself, however I really don't know what's generating this problem nor do I know if I am the only one with it

I mean, maybe it's Dropbox combined with your ISP? I know for sure that file downloads fine for many others (including myself on another PC).

Head radio has more than just LCS songs added, a bunch of GTA 2 songs, some extra Conor & Jay etc.

Perhaps...? I did also downloaded Tightened Vice, and that one was downloaded and extracted without a hitch. I tried a fourth time with Thrice, but, aside from a download where it weirdly downloaded everything but HEAD.wav, same problem happened on the fifth time. By the way, here's the pic of the problem. It's in Portuguese, however.

No, there's many more folders than that, so it's definitely not downloading properly for w/e reason.
