How does killing someone in GTA magically grant you their property?

This is the weirdest logic in all GTA games, you kill a guy, then suddenly: You get his house and properties without anybody questioning at all.

 

Tommy just gets Diaz's mansion after f*cking killing him and nobody remotely gives a sliver of a sh*t.

 

Same with Niko and Playboy X

It's just one of those video game conveniences I think. Not like the deceased criminal's associates can go to the law so rather than some tedious explanation or approach, they just made it simpler, you kill the criminal overlord, you occupy their place and they can't go to the police anyway. 

 

In Niko/Playboys case I think Dwayne was the owner/next in line to the mansion's deed or something like that so there was an explanation enough on how Niko got the place. 

 

I wonder how Tommy magically got Mario and the other gangsters working for him once he killed Diaz. Maybe fame spreads quick in Vice lol.

I mean they could just be squatting in it. Just because they live there and occupy it doesn't mean that they're there legally.

 

 

With Playboy X, Dwayne said he still has the deed to his apartment and says Niko can live there. Tho idk if his apartment was seized by the government when Dwayne got arrested. But either way, it makes more sense than in Tommy's case

Mario and the others weren't working for Diaz tho. The people working for Diaz were all killed or escaped to Liberty City (Where they quite possibly either formed or merged into the Colombian Cartel). With the exception of Mike and his partner who begun working for Tommy instead of escaping or getting killed, Mario and the others were hired afterwards.

Oh yeah I didn't mean Tommy got Mario and the rest from Diaz' crew but that where did Tommy get those guys after killing Diaz. Just another video game convenience maybe. You can say up and coming gangsters were eager to work with the hottest new gangster in town (Tommy) maybe.

I would say they were probably Forelli gangsters who after seeing Tommy's rise escaped to Vice City and worked for him. Some of them could also be former Vance Gang members.
