independence FM not working (tried everything)

I can't for the life of me get independence FM to work to play my own music. I have tried every suggestion the internet has to offer and none of it has worked. 

I just have this graphics mod installed, no other mods.  

 

Can anyone help me?

Hey there, I trying to do it now for you, it was also not playing for me but I managed to get it working. They have to be fully mp3 files set to open with windows media player first of all. Also before you do anything, delete User Music folder and recreate it there. Try putting ONLY 3 mp3 song files instead of just 1.  For some just this can make the music work. If not, do the rest below.

Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\User Music

then you have to copy them over ALSO to

C:\Users\*(Your PC Name)*\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\User Music

Open the game, load your save file and first click "Complete Scan" and select  Independence FM Mode to Sequential. They should be working now.

 

Tell me if it worked for you. I hope it did, Independence FM is kinda problematic.

If you have installed mods it could be in game directory.

in your screen shots you have some files inside C:\Users\*(Your PC Name)*\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\User Music called "cpuinfo" and "userfile.dat, usertracks.dat".

My folder doesn't have these files inside maybe that is why it wont work?

You tried putting 3 songs mp3 files in both of those gta iv usermusic folders, the one in appdata and the other in documents?, clicking complete scan etc? Those files there looking at the dates they got created when you press to scan from options.

Are you from Steam? It is best to try reinstalling it, maybe it could work then. Other than that I don't know what could be going wrong

I did more than 3 songs. I did about 20 songs, all mp3 format, all open with windows media player. I put the songs inside both folders and i did the scan too. 

I just found another user music folder inside my game directory. I will try putting the music there.

And you also tried with only 3 songs just in case it can't play with 20 I assume? Ah that's sad then I don't know what could be issue, try reinstalling and tell me then I guess if you are from steam.

When set to sequential you won't hear any news, it will play your songs instantly btw.

I got it to work! The user tracks folder is inside the game directory for some reason. Not where it should be.

Never heard of that ever I even can't find anything related to user music being in game directory, but okay I guess if you got it to work that's good, have fun.

No me neither, i downgraded the game for the graphics mod im using so i think it has something to do with that. The save files are in the game directory too which is also not normal.

Ah is alright I guess, for others, the solution is my first comment, depends if you have mods or not.

Hello there! I tried your method once, and I placed MP3 files in two directories, but it still didn't work. When my GTA 4 scans, it only flashes suddenly and doesn't display X/X like a normally functioning game. Do you know what the reason for this might be?

The Chinese text on the second image means: "Completing full scan, please wait." When I click on "full scan," this message only shows one or two frames, then disappears.

If you have CustomUserProfilePath set in FusionFix ini it breaks Independence FM scan.

You should check what's inside userfile.dat in "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\User Music" - change its extension from .dat  to .txt (it is a text file in UTF-16 LE encoding), double click it and it should open in Notepad. If it has no filenames of your songs then scan did not work.

I forgot to mention, I did install FusionFix. Should I delete the 'CustomUserProfilePath' in the ini file? Because I couldn't find the 'userfile.dat' file in either the Documents or AppData/Local/User Music folders.

It's strange because even when you have no media files in "%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\User Music" after you do full scan from Audio menu and exit the game it will create an empty userfile.dat in "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\User Music".

You mah leave it at default empty value CustomUserProfilePath= and it should work

After completely deleting GTA4 and re-downloading it, without installing any mods or plugins this time, clicking on "full scan" still only results in a brief flicker. I've completely given up and decided to use speakers to play some background music instead. Thank you for your patience and help.QWQ

If your media folder haven't change since last full scan e.g. you didn't delete or add  any new media files then clicking full scan will not do anything. Add some more .mp3 files to "%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\User Music".

 

You may try downgrading a separate copy of your game folder to some older patch and check if userfile.dat / ufile.dat gets created in "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\User Music" after full scan and your songs play when you set Sequential mode in Audio menu and select IndependenceFM in the car.

tried this now independence fm works but only plays the songs for 10 - 15 seconds then skips the song any reason why

Thank you so much. I had spent hours searching for working solution for this problem and to my delight this has worked like a charm. All this while, I was only focusing on Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\User Music folder to place MP3 files. Then I realized that there are 2 more important locations,
 

1.C:\Users\*(Your PC Name)*\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\User Music -- > You need to enable "Show hidden files" option in windows to see AppData folder.

 

2.C:\*Your Games Folder*\Grand Theft Auto IV - The Complete Edition\settings\User Music --> If you are using Mod. I am using iCE Enhancer 3.0 Mod

 

Note: I will edit this post to reconfirm which path fixed this issue for me.
