ImCalledAbdo
๐๐ข๐ฅ ๐๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ง๐ฌย ย GTA 5 is generally an amazing game it's really a masterpiece HOWEVER in comparison to other GTA games it falls further back I will talk about essential things that are downgraded like:ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย COMBATย ย ย LSPDย ย AIย ย HANDLINGย ย MISSION DESIGNย ย ย ย *and other stuff* ย ย ๐๐ข๐ ๐๐๐งย The combat is very pathetic; both the player and the enemies have a lot of health, Npcs always writhe when shot in the leg which prevents them from moving and they will die after a short period of time, GTA 4 used to have this thing where if you shoot an npc in the torso it will deal more damage when shot in the leg for example and GTA 5 doesn't have that, In the air if you engage in a dog-fight (by flying over fort zancudo) other jets will shoot at you which sounds cool but it's risky to dodge their missiles because the homing system is too accurate and the minimap is my only help I guess, but GTA sa had these things called flares which emitted heat that attracts the missiles to it (as they are heat seeking) but GTA 5 doesn't have it, The helicopters are also not as good because in older GTA games you could move your chopper freely in almost all directions but GTA 5 limits the pitch which not only makes flying very easy but it makes it so you can't lean towards the ground and what does this have to do with combat? well you see; That also means that you can't shoot at targets beneath you if you are using a helicopter with missiles like the buzzard so the game relies on that cheap homing system which doesn't reward skill unlike older GTA games where you could shoot almost anywhere and you could use both miniguns and rockets unlike GTA5 which only lets you switch weapons, You can carry every weapon in the game and I mean EVERY weapon; In old GTAs there are about 8 slots and each slot can hold 1 weapon but GTA5 decided to make it so you can just keep all weapons which defeats the purpose of choosing which weapon you prefer as you can just take em all, you can shoot a weapon out of an npc's hand in GTA 4, GTA 5 doesn't have this feature, And if the game wasn't easy enough it gives you special abilities (special abilities in a GTA game smh) one that makes you invincible and increases damage for Trevor, One that makes you slow time when shooting outside a vehicle as Michael and one that lets you slow down time when driving a vehicle and breaks the laws of physics by giving you incredible control for Franklin, The "recoil" replaces the bullet spread we had in older GTA games (it doesnโt actually replace the bullet spread however Bullet spread is just extremely minimal) the recoil isnโt even as intense as the old bullet spread in comparison so itโs just a lil shake on your screen but you are almost shooting in an accurate straight line (I can kill a chopper's pilot with a submachine pistol),ย Speaking of accuracy the AI is so annoying when it comes to shooting as they are so accurate that they rarely even miss which makes it more insufferable, You have health regeneration now which fills half of you health bar (heals fast when taking cover), Another awful aspect is that the explosions don't kill you/instantly kill you if you are in range/not in range but in older GTAs it depends on the radius giving a chance of survival (with some damage) depending on how far/close you are, The melee combat is pathetic you can one hit any ped with just one punch while running into them and if they are fighting back they can take a couple punches (although not much) the blocking mechanic is removed but dodging is still there and itโs horrible; Instead of timing your dodges you can just hold SPACE and automatically dodge, The ability to take melee weapons from your enemy is also gone. ย ๐๐ฆ๐ฃ๐ ย The police in this game are by far the worst thing I have encountered to start off: police don't spawn unless you have wanted level and You can only get 5 stars no more 6 stars! Also doing any crime instantly alerts the cops unlike old GTAs where for example: you had to run over multiple people to get the cops' attention but now ramming 1 npc by accident could give you wanted level, the game has a stealth system that's terrible as you have to hide in alley-ways to lose them (driving away is an option however they will keep spawning Infront of you so hiding is the proper option), the cops also ram your car which only makes you go faster unlike the old games where they tried to do a PIT maneuver by drifting Infront of you , Anyway at 1 star the police comes to arrest the player which makes sense but if you try running to stealing a vehicle you will get 2 stars! And the worst part is that they will start shooting (even though you didn't do anything violent) That's because the game registers that as "resisting arrest" which is wrong as resisting arrest is when you actually resist being cuffed NOT being caught, and guess what happens if you shoot at them? You will get 3 stars and be chased by a chopper, who would get chased by a chopper for shooting an officer? I already found it weird that GTA4 had you chased by a chopper when killing a cop but now you can get chased by a chopper for SHOOTING?, Now I'm not an expert and I don't know the law so that might actually be accurate but damn it's still frustrating (one time Amanda called me to help her from some trouble with an officer and a store owner, if you decide to help her then boom: 3 stars which meant a helicopter chase), At 4 stars we get the SWAT which is good and at 5 stars we STILL get the SWAT (not even FIB) and keep in mind that there is no RIOT or ANNIHILATOR or even PATRIOT, The police also feels less tactical as in GTA4 they used to roll or slide to cover which looked more badass, Some sniper officers are set on specific rooftops to make it more challenging, and NOOSE have this really cool stance/crouch which looks better than GTA5's swat with that hunched-over back (only my opinion) , The swat comes in black SUVs as they are hanging OUTSIDE the SUV which isn't tactical at all but still badass so let's give it a pass, The helicopters sometimes LAND on the street which is stupid as you can just shoot the pilot and steal the helicopter helping you escape but one thing I like though is that they throw tear gas which is neat. ย ๐๐ The AI in this game is so f*cked up; if you shoot someone in the middle of nowhere the cops' spider sense tingle and you get a wanted level and even if you use a silencer the AI will somehow hear it and scream which gives you wanted level, The npcs don't like it when you stand near them as they will either walk away (which makes sense as you are kinda in their private space) however they can also get mad and start fighting you which isn't cool, If you push them/walk into them ONCE they will either get scared and flee or fight which required you to do it MULTIPLE times in older GTA games as it's considered harassment, If you aim a gun at GTA4 npcs they will put their hands up and if they happen to be in a vehicle they will exit the vehicle or try to back out of it but in GTA5 they either flee or run you over, LS feels dead as it's just npcs walking with phones (there is too much f*cking phones in this game, everyone takes pictures of me all time like when I ragdoll or crash my car, it's a cringe yet true image of today's society), There are random events but they are repetitive as they mostly consist of muggings but still pretty cool I guess, in GTA4 you can see people holding groceries ,use umbrellas when it's raining, gangs randomly fighting and police actually arresting instead of shooting the criminals, the npcs have bravery; if you know the lore of the game you will know how bad the terrorist attacks are so if you throw a grenade in the middle of the street a bunch of npcs will go and attack you, that also happens when attacking women especially the elderly. ย ๐๐ฅ๐๐ฉ๐๐ก๐ The game is called grand theft auto so they can't downgrade that right? Wrong; If you press F near a moving car the car will magically stop just for you to catch up and if you happen to be playing as Michael he will do this thing where he tells the npc to get out of the car without even touching the npc, and the npc will get scared of Michael and exit the car as if he has some form of authoritive ability unlike GTA4 where Niko proceeds to punch male drivers before pulling them out and only pulling out female drivers when stealing their cars as a form of nobility, he also has animations for weapons whenever he equips them while hi-jacking cars, When stealing a parked car in GTA4 you can actually start the engine faster by repeatedly pressing W which isn't a feature in GTA5, I'm not a fan of the driving, More specifically the bikes and air vehicles, Bikes have weird traction and breaking which can instantly slow you down quickly therefore you can't drift and the turning is just so fast!, All aircrafts have this weird turbulence that makes flying shaky, I donโt care if itโs realistic as itโs very annoying, The cars while being okay to drive have this thing where you can control your positioning mid-air which actually is a feature in GTA 4 and GTA sa but they weren't as overly controllable as this and they required you to stop holding the W key, The peds' vehicles are too heavy; I could literally ram a car at 100mph and it will only get pushed just a tad bit which is annoying as it heavily damages my car and leaves the rammed car fine(if you crash into a windshield the npcs won't get launched out of it and they will just die on the steering wheel, and directly ramming an engine will set npcs and the car on fire in gta4), hell you can't even push an empty car, it's almost as if a ghost is inside it pulling the handbrake. ย ๐ ๐๐ฆ๐ฆ๐๐ข๐ก ๐๐๐ฆ๐๐๐ก Mission design in GTA5 is bad; missions are too scripted like that Lester assassination mission which requires you to wait a whole minute doing nothing waiting for your target to appear (keep in mind that the minute doesn't count down no matter how long it takes you to drive to the location) it tries to do some variety in missions (so it's just not always killing) but I beg to differ as these missions are boring; like minor turbulence which is a long ass flight and if you go above the radar you get shot by missiles (can't survive like san andreas and will fail the mission) which leads to repeating the whole thing all over again (and don't even get me started on scouting the port) GTA4 has a lot of scripted missions indeed, However they make sense as the AI has trouble driving in GTA4 and almost all scripted missions are chases (except heroin truck mission) @whatever57010 made an awesome series on GTA 4 all possibilities in missions I highly recommend you check it out, Also you have checkpoints now and if you fail any mission multiple times you will have the ability to skip them(smh this game couldn't get any easier) unlike the taxi that used to take you to the missions in GTA vc and vcs, GTA4 had you restart missions with your phone. ย ย ๐ฃ๐๐ข๐ก๐ The phone is very downgraded in my opinion as in GTA4 Niko could call his friends which gives you some form of benefit like buying discount weapons from lil Jacob or healing by asking one of your doctor girlfriends for advice (which actually magically heals you lmao) if you go on a 6 star rampage agent ULP will call you and be like WTF unlike GTA5 (and I mean Dave Norton by that) Also if you call npcs at a time where they can't talk to you like when they are asleep at night time or busy they will actually pickup and tell you something like "come on man it's late" or sorry "I'm busy doing somethin" you also have a little reputation system as if you accept to hang out with your friends when they call you they will like you and the they will accept your calls more if you choose to hang out with them. ย ๐ฉ๐๐ฆ๐จ๐๐๐ฆ ย The graphics of GTA5 is great it definitely has better shaders and post processing than GTA4, However GTA4 does very well with visuals, Take a bullet hole on vehicles for example; they have this parallax effect which makes it look 3D, GTA5 also uses the same technology however it is less noticeable and it looks 2D, GTA4 also has good vfx take explosions/muzzle flashes/molotovs for example it really looks flashier than GTA5 although GTA5 still has better graphics no denial here, (the art direction should come to your preferences however I think gta sa looks more stylistic with its orange filter). ย ๐ ๐ข๐ฉ๐๐ ๐๐ก๐ง ย The movement is weird; It feels less responsive when changing directions as in GTA4 Niko will quickly stop and move the opposite way when I want him to, but in GTA5 if I decide to move in the opposite direction my character takes a weird U turn which isn't good when engaging in combat (especially in interiors), The characters walk too much; in the mission "chop" you start by walking with Lamar while chatting about what they are gonna do but realize that I said "walk" so you basically have to keep listening to the dialogue while the game walks for you (yes you don't even have to hold W) this happens a lot in this game the game, also there is this thing I call "assisted movement" which makes it so when you move on stairs the game tries to direct your movement away from the sides of the staircase (so you don't bump into the side) also when doing parkour it has this thing where if you drop from a ledge your character tries to grab onto it before touching the floor (which f*cks me over a lot), This is too much hand-holding, At this point let the game play for me and make me watch it, So yeah GTA5 is a good game HOWEVER that doesn't mean it's any better than other GTA games in comparison, (3D universe movement was very controllable although not realistic yet it's practical). ย ย ๐ง๐๐ ๐๐ก๐ I would like to once again state that GTA 5 is a masterpiece, It may appear that I hate the game but I really like it, it's just that I found it underwhelming compared to the older titles. ย Edited February 7 by ImCalledAbdo misspell and one misinfo NightmanCometh96, FoxyShinobi, Davve95 and 8 others 5 1 1 1

JumpingKentFlash
Itโs not. Itโs not the best either though. The mechanics are all fine, but theyโd benefit a lot from tweaking. Driving could be better if it was in the middle between IV and V. Shooting could be better if it was much more like Max Payne 3. There will always be some gripes when itโs been played to death for 9 years. Where it really lacks is the story. It left me cold, but they can still do itโฆ. RDR2 showed that. Also, about the story I genuinely like Michael/Trevor relationship in this game, I like franklin's personality the most, but he doesn't add to the story other than assisting Michael and Trevor and getting out of the ghetto (this dude be chill you can see him reading a book sometimes), however they f*cked up with the antagonists that's for sure, unlike previous titles; the villain was introduced a bit earlier in the game which is what made them interesting for me, unlike how they shoved them in the middle of the story, this game's mission later becomeย ย "do it for the fib or else" I honestly think Steve Haines is a bigger asshole than Devin Westen, I would have liked it if he was the main antagonist but that's just my opinion. Moncastler
GTA V is a masterpiece that, unlike its predecessors, doesn't particularly excels in a specific aspect. Each one of us is different and we all end up loving a GTA for something in particular, GTA V is a very solid experience but for many that "particular thing" is done better in another title. You may not like it, but saying that it's the worst entry in the series is objectively wrong (unless you really think GTA Advance > GTA V). Many things you said are just personal preference and everyone could just do a similar list for the GTA they like the least, however I noticed some arguments that don't make sense: ย 19 hours ago, ImCalledAbdo said: The combat is very pathetic; both the player and the enemies have a lot of health, Npcs always writhe when shot in the leg which prevents them from moving and they will die after a short period of time Yes, this is a major step back compared to GTA IV, but it's still objectively superior to the 3D era combat where you couldn't take cover and NPCs don't react at all to fired bullets. ย 19 hours ago, ImCalledAbdo said: the game has a stealth system that's terrible as you have to hide in alley-ways to lose them (driving away is an option however they will keep spawning Infront of you so hiding is the proper option) In 3D era titles you usually don't have many options to lose the cops if you have more than 2 stars, it's usually either the Pay'n'spray or police bribes available in fixed locations of the map. SA has improved this system a little bit by making you lose even 2 stars by simply driving away, but from 3 onwards the story is exactly the same. You complained quite a lot on the lack of choice when it comes to mission design (and I 100% agree with that), but I don't understand why this would be a problem. ย I also don't understand why you picked phone, visuals and movements as categories, here you can basically compare just GTA IV and GTA V. 3D era titles have a very basic phone functionality, their visuals can't even match the look of IV and V (for obvious reasons) and when it comes to movements... Well, I don't think there's a single person here who would like to go back to the 3D era movement system. AC Schnitzer
I wouldn't say it was the worst, but it was definitely the least overwhelming in the series. GTA Advance is a step child in the family, as it wasn't even made by R*, but all other games were something almost groundbreaking the day they come to the market. - GTA 3 pushed the series from overhead view to full 3D view and did it on such scale - VC was meant to be DLC, but it overhauled GTA 3 mechanics and added bikes, helicopters and wonderful 80s atmosphere - SA is a gem and one of the games ever made. Such giant map without loadings on PS2 seemed impossible at the time - LCS - big open world game for PSP - VCS - did what the same what VC did to 3, but added to a lot of new stuff (like good close combat system, empire building, etc.) - IV - completely new engine and Euphoria based physics - first GTA game that was up to graphical standard set by other games - V? - added online?ย Don't get me wrong, I like V and I spent many hours in both single and O. I like some of the aspects, but it doesn't really excell in any matter. Story is so so, map while big is strangely designed and there's not much except LS, driving is just good, same as shooting. It lacks something that would make it truly memorable. How many of You remembers GTA 3, VC or SA like the back of Yours heads? Can You name all the disctricts in LS from V, however? Do You know the names of the mountains except Mount Chilliad, which was from SA? It's not like V is bad, it's not. It just not memorable in any way. People are mostly remembering it for Trevor or online, but not many people care about the story or single player.ย I don't know where to look for a reason of such result? It seems like R* stopped caring for a bit, but still they were able to create vast open world with many details. Or maybe they were focusing more on online, but it wasn't even ready for the premiere of GTA V. Maybe there were some troubles during the development, ones we don't know about, but something is off in that game. Maybe we are to blame? Because we lost some curiosity that painted such wonderful pictures of older GTAs in our mids? Hard to say, but truth be told it doesn't taste the same, despite being similar dish.ย Edited February 1 by AC Schnitzer Darth_Cruiser, ImCalledAbdo and NightmanCometh96

B Dawg
19 hours ago, Moncastler said: Yes, this is a major step back compared to GTA IV, but it's still objectively superior to the 3D era combat where you couldn't take cover and NPCs don't react at all to fired bullets. You could take cover, you just didn't have an unnecessary automated system for doing so. Just manually move yourself behind any wall or crouch behind any object (something you can't do anymore in GTA V). NPCs not reacting to bullets is also not true (at least in SA, don't remember about the older games). If you were shooting at someone, they can't shoot back. The reactions aren't fancy looking but they're there.

Idk if this is off-topic but a game called "gun" released in 2005 had a cool system where you can lean as you crouch so it's kinda like the modern cover systems except that you aren't glued to the wall. Super Grunt 281
Helicopters can point straight down and that's a very basic thing that one should learn to do, that's mostly important for the Savage in GTA Online but it can work in GTA V and the others. ย GTA IV also has BS ground cop spawn but it has an arbitrary radius to escape and will prevent you from escaping with a helicopter directly (for a higher wanted level) , despite the fact that helicopters can hide your presence like any car, delaying the easy escape (Algonquin subway, switching to a car or safehouse) . ย GTA V did away with the radius and added bushes and going deep underwater as hiding spots, the radar will tell you if you are hidden (which is mostly nonexistent in GTA Online and nowhere in GTA IV) , the longer time it takes to lose stars is a compensation I imagine but the gigantic radius of 5/6 stars is ridiculous in GTA IV. ย GTA V has a weird mix, for example the lack of SMG drive by from the police is to lessen the difficulty but the lack of armored police truck in traffic is to increase it (they still spawn as roadblocks and the officer can give chase with it) , the Police Riot is way more bullet resistant and grant full body armor upon entry (not that it's not easy riding in GTA IV) . ย Also the Enforcer in GTA IV doesn't provide a 360 degrees coverage for every shooter and delay the 2 in the back, in GTA V they are quick to engage but are easier to take out from that FIB Granger. ย 2 stars are granted in GTA IV for going away from the police but after a while, the LSPD is just quick about it. Max Payne
Feels to me that side missions are more interesting than story missions, which is weird as f*ck. Also property stuff feels half assed. ImCalledAbdo

Honestly I thought the 5/6 star radius in IV was fine. It was large however you could still sneak outwards. It feels like the Police are on a manhunt because a punched 1 guy sometimes in GTA V / Online. Like there are times I'm waiting minutes and even crossing to the other side of the map and the cops are still looking for me with only 1 or 2 stars on me. Devin genuinely feels like a guy who doesn't mean to be a prick but just takes compensation for people's stuff that turns him into one. Like he's just somebody you make a deal with however if you get something, your work will not be as rewarding as the work itself you know what I mean? I wish Devin was more just like a tertiary antagonist or hell even an accidental antagonist. He doesn't feel threatening at all for a good chunk of the game. Dmitri killed his best friend, kidnapped his old employee's cousin, and tortured the city until he got what he wanted. Billy Grey sold out his friends, got hooked on drugs, and tried to selfishly grow everything if it meant abandoning his ideals. Ray cut off a guy's head for stealing diamonds and planned to kill everyone even if they didn't even understand the diamond's backstory. Devin... idk... He fakes a film tape destruction that gets his lawyer killed in a Jet engine? Oh no... So evil... It's fine until you get the most inconvenient cop spawn ever so the search radius is relocated, don't worry the game is capable of maintaining the chase well after it stopped being acceptable (assuming it was in the first place) . ย Completing a vigilante mission remove the wanted level, not a secret in any way but an interesting method. - added online?ย ย V added multiple protagonists, weapon wheel and weapon add-ons, special abilities, buying cars and planes, saving anywhere, random events, it's the first to have 1 big island instead of several ones so it's fully accessible since the beginning, it also improved on IV's controls and made them smoother. there's a lot it added to the series that i can think of and it will be more obvious when the next game releasesย MaddenedGhost

By this I mean both had a major game-changing feature inspired by a previous title however generally went for quality of life features however in turn, sacrificed alot of what people loved about the prior games and despite both being the biggest successes for the franchise, both are somewhat alienated or otherwise controversial in the fanbase. 44Orca
I wouldn't call it the worst entry in the series though yes there are similar points people give about GTA V, my only complaints with it, the story is too short and I don't like the map as much, I wanted a bigger forest area and a bit less mountainous on some areas.
