GTA VI Online Speculation and Wishlist

I know we barely know anything about the game, but with R*'s current attention to GTA V's Online mode, I think we have a solid idea on how it would probably be in GTA VI.

For one, I'd like to speculate that GTA VI could:

  • Have more focus on solo-friendly players @Tez2 did the player count increase significantly since they launched invite-only activities?
  • Taxi minigame for starters
  • Passive income from safes and mini deliveries
  • Heists for team-players
  • Hundreds upon hundreds of vehicles (some of which are seen among the traffic in the you know what)
  • Revamped economy (appropriately-priced businesses and toys, payouts)
  • Limited fast-travel options, and
  • Possibly very limited "migration" options like the Career Builder

Some things that aren't in GTA V online, but I wish would come in GTA VI's.

  • Revamped AI accuracy (which seems to be the case in some of the....)
  • Revamped stealth mechanics (we all know how broken it is. Suppressors attract attention, ants report crimes in the wilderness, cops would know which area you're in 100% of the time)
  • No missile lock-on for players
  • Optional blips in Public Lobbies or something similar, or
  • Friendly Fire Off for all players and Personal Vehicles (so you can do activities and not worry about griefers, AKA real Passive Mode).
  • More useful Body Armor and Food/Health Packs
  • Heavier vehicles (slower accelaration for land vehicles, less turbulence for aircraft)
  • Real FPS animations and mechanics
  • Max Payne 3-level third-person combat (without the diveshots)
  • Classic vehicle spawning where the vehicle really spawns instantly and in front of the player (not on the other side of the f'n mountain!)

An easier way to choose a second character? Also if possible to start a new character to keep some of the same stats like the level and achievements? For those who want completely new character that option will exist too.

These might sound weird.:modkek: wrote them in the main speculation topics before

An update that has to do with Machines/Terminator like, and the city turning into rubble, fighting against those types, not the crappy Doomsday Heist AI.

An update that the aliens actually invade the city and you have to defend it with friends/other freemode players.

Some sort of Surfing online minigame?

solving mysteries with other players?

I thought of creating a different topic for updates wishlist a while ago but thought is stupid and too early so I didn't, also I questioned why there isn't an online topic...yet

I saw some of those you said on part 7 and 8, we sometimes talk a lot of the online mode.

But then again we need some GTA VI Online topic, it will be more organized to have everything in a different section that has to do about the online mode, but could be that it's not time for it yet that's why there wasn't one?

My only wish for GTA6 Online is that it doesn't take anything away from the single player game, if a bunch of content is made exclusively for GTAO that's completely fine.  What i don't want to see is things not happening or existing in the single player game because they're worried that it could hurt the business model of GTAO (like the casino not opening in V).

To me, it seems like they want people to pour their attention into Online. They want people to forget about the SP, that's why a very limited portion of the DLCs made it into SP.

You stated that, but the other point that also comes to my mind is that in SP everybody has at least a hundred million by investing in the stock market. Nobody would play GTAO if they just had those vehicles, weapons, businesses.

They could make it happen in GTA VI, though. If they made that game much simpler in terms of economy, like GTA IV. They could even carry all the stuff from GTA VI online and still make profits if they limited the economy through businesses and missions, and not through Stock Market exploits. That's a big IF. If they integrate SP and Online well that one aspect doesn't clash with the other, it would certainly take off.

If player count has increased since they implemented invite-only activities, then there's a chance R* would focus more on SP and have the online character only for multi-player or public "appearances". Like maybe instead of Jason and Lucia, you'll use your OL character for Team Heists, Public Free mode, etc.

Kid Named Finger

Got V for the PS3 in 2014 and for PC in 2015, never touched online even once.

But I'd like to just have 3-4 of my buddies in a lobby and just shoot each other or stunts and stuff. Missions seem too much of a pain because I won't have too much free time. Hope all the hacking is reduced this time.

Probably would check out heavily modded RP servers. Seem pretty fun

While I play online most of the time, I just stay in IO lobbies unless I'm in the mood for PVP or take risk on public lobby bonuses. Other than that, I'd just join crew meetups for some roleplay and car meet.

If R* sticks to the current "formula", then I can imagine invite-only lobbies staying for good where you can just mess around with people you trust. You should join RP servers if you're on PC. Most of the time, they're a lot better than R* servers since they have strict enforcement and monitoring (due to their smaller size). A lot of times, you can even request the moderator for items you need to start your journey. Vehicles, weapons, ammo, apartments also come cheap, the economy is balanced. Although, you won't see drug lords with 10 apartments and 5 businesses in these servers. They're very grounded to reality. You can ask the moderator to assign you a job or you can join gangs that rob banks.

My friend's brother plays in a particular RP server. They're mostly Filipinos. He was RPing as a cop, and when they trash talked the robbers they were coming after, they got the heavy hand because they ended up agitating another player which also ended up in a shootout and one of their VIPs killed.

You got a similar topic? If the GTA O becomes standalone, then I guess it will stay. But, if they R* manages to integrate it seamlessly into GTA VI then it'll likely be merged.

No but a lot of the future online mode stuff/wishlist etc was said on the main speculation & discussion parts by many people. So I thought they will go there as it might be too early for online topic.

Ahh. I see, I thought of just posting there, but I was 80% certain they'd also abandon GTA VI in favor of Online and it becomes a different, better game on its own. :sadkek:

I wish it fails and we get back to releasing games quicker than a decade plus or at least get story mode DLCS.

Seriously though why would there be no f*cking single player expansion packs for a game like GTAV ???? That sold how many copies ?? It’s insanity.

There kinda is in the GTA Online section, about the future of GTA Online, not sure how we should handle that especially considering atm this section and that section have very different communities (with some overlap) :kekw: I suppose we can keep both for now...

I think I have read out there, although in the article about the two IV expansions in wikipedia, it does not show how many sales both had, that they did not come out as economically profitable as they expected and perhaps it was the reason that we did not receive expansions in this style for the SP later...

Although I say this from ignorance, I don't know if they are going to return the idea or they are going to have the 'brilliant idea' of cancelling it/s as happened with V's.

TBH, I haven't seen a single-player game take off as long as any MP games, except for AC games, which usually last around 3 years. TBH, if they'd make GTA VI more focused on SP, but with a lot of businesses behind paywalls, I'd still get it. As long as the paywalls are on par with what we're currently getting, like GTA+, Businesses, etc.

No way I'm using real money to buy vehicles. RDO has Gold for Business only, I think, but I never touched online on that game. I used real money on the buzzard, Akula, and the CESP. But, I thought of them as investments. hahaha

R* can certainly pull of a mostly-SP game with MTX, look at GTA Online. You can make it mostly SP just by logging into invite-only.

What? That sounds like you want VI’s story mode to pretty much be like GTA online. I will be unhappy if I can’t progress through the story without having to grind some mission hundreds of times to avoid MTX. I’ll be pissed it’s even present in the game. GTA online is not the same thing as GTA V.

GTA V has been released on 3 different console generations, I’d say it “took off” enough to have justified an expansion pack ( which was originally planned before onlines success )

Have you played GTA other than online? LOL I have to laugh at being ok with onlines style economy in GTA VI

You actually have a point on the first sentence. But, let's be real. GTA V took almost half a billion to make, DLCs will probably cost a lot less. The game took off, yes. It made more than a Billion at least on its first couple of years. But, I don't think the base game was very replayable. GTA V releasing in 3 different gens doesn't necessarily mean people were mainly buying it for SP.

Have you played GTA other than online? Have you? Seriously what's this got to do with my idea, though? You were missing the point all along. Let's take a deep breath... Hmmm. Okay, I'm cool now, are you? haha.

Yeah, I've played GTA 1, 2, 3, and finished GTA VC, SA IV+EFLC, GTA V.

You missed my point. I just mentioned online's economy and the only thing that came to your mind is "expensive, inflated, grind, buy MTX". What I was trying to say is that you don't get to earn hundreds of millions just for finishing the story and you actually get to buy things that aren't only kept for online. The biggest reason why many people think online stuff were kept from SP is because with at least a couple hundred millions, you could buy half the vehicles in online and it would hamper profits from the game. After all, why would people bother choosing to grind online or buy Sharkies, if they could get them through SP.

Now, things have changed and you could basically play online as a solo player. The devs probably aren't that stupid to notice that they could also earn money from solo players. With the release of Double Down missions, you could say that co-op gameplay is now possible IF they decide it's worth their effort. Putting two and two together, I made these conclusions:

  • They can make an SP game and still profit (see invite-only GTAO lobbies)
  • They can make an optional coop game (Double Down missions)
  • They don't have to prioritize shark card sales (GTA+ Bonuses work better for the long-term if you constantly play)

That was my point. If you're still hard on me because of my point on economy, then I'd reiterate. Make GTA O vehicles realistically cheaper, let us have enjoyable businesses so they don't feel grindy and R* can put them in GTA VI SP without losing profits.

Analyst estimations place the game's combined development and marketing budget at more than £170 million (US$265 million), which would make it the most expensive game ever made at that time.[39]

Extensively marketed and widely anticipated, the game broke industry sales records and became the fastest-selling entertainment product in history, earning $800 million in its first day and $1 billion in its first three days.

It is the second best-selling video game of all time with over 170 million copies shipped, and as of April 2018, one of the most financially successful entertainment products of all time, with about $6 billion in worldwide revenue.

microtransactions have absolutely ZERO place in single player. Even the mention of such an idea should be immensely scrutinized.

I over estimated the $265 million. Was it RDR 2 that had almost $500 million in budget? Might have mixed up the two.

Personally, I didn't like the fact that GTA Online had MTX. I would have simply paid for each substantial DLC, like Gunrunning, After Hours, Cayo and got the money I needed through Business sales without the heavily-inflated vehicle/property catalogues. But, it's difficult to imagine a mainly single-player live-service game without mtx. I only ever paid for the starting businesses and the essential weaponized vehicles to start the grind, but it was still tedious asf given the prices.

I play mostly single-player games nowadays and most of them are no longer actively supported outside of some occasional patches.

Expect GTA Online 2 to be built upon RDO's foundation as proved by the leaked videos.

  • The game will still be P2P, but with a hybrid model. As in the game server would handle some parts like the session for players joining/leaving or merging the session itself with another session as well as handling minigames and gang (posse) ...etc.

  • The catalogue, much like RDR2's Wheeler, Rawson, and Co., will return in a new form. Rockstar may feature a parody of Amazon's store to have it as the face of the company behind the new catalogue. Online shopping. No longer having to visit clothes shops when we can order clothes from the catalogue. Rockstar will definitely mock the gun laws in America by establishing that as your right to order weapons from an online catalogue. 😄

This will change the formula of event weeks as well. We will have the "Offers & Rewards" menu instead of the "After 72 hours" rewards. So you can end up with a collection of discounts applied whenever you like with expiry dates.

  • A Gang/Crew system much like RDO's Persistent Posses. Think of it like a Motorcycle Club or a CEO Organization with 7 players. The difference being that when you log off, the gang/crew won't be terminated.

The problem with RDO's Posse system is that when the leader isn't around, the posse is technically disbanded until it is "reformed" thus having to invite back the current members. And members don't benefit much from the Persistent Posse gameplay. Unfortunately, Rockstar didn't resolve the issues brought by the feedback criticizing GTAO's Organization/MC system.

You can't contribute to a shared fund so the posse as a collective bear the costs of upgrades. The Posse Leader has to be the one launching activities/missions. You can't embark on a side quest the leader sends you off. There should be like a cut percentage, you can tune to your liking, of the monetary rewards from stealing shops or completing heists. You can choose not to contribute OR to giveaway 1% - 5% of the money obtained to the Posse.

Basically, all the things that make you feel like you're part of a gang or a crew in real life. Not some hired goons.

  • Progression paths for Criminal Careers.

The Career Builder on GTAO PS5 & XSX versions is most likely backported from GTA6. Offering us X (amount) Career Paths to choose from. Much like Roles in Red Dead Online. Don't expect the contents to be the same of course, but the concept remain the same.

  • Cryptocurrency

We have gold bars in RDO as a second currency. We are much likely to have the same in the new GTA Online. Cryptocurrency is the most fitting label for the new currency.

  • We may or may not have private lobbies.

Rockstar introduced a new session management system with Red Dead Online. Ensuring the gameplay experience remains "seamless" throughout the play session. This would solve the core issue of waiting long periods of time staring at the clouds in GTA Online. But comes with a pushback influenced by design choices.

This system requires public lobbies to be well populated to perform at its finest level. If you ever end up within a low-populated public lobby in RDO, chances are you will find yourself in a new lobby within a few minutes. Plus, since the game still rely on P2P, the matchmaking service would rely on your geolocation to matchmake with nearby players. If most of the nearby players are in private lobbies, the system may not perform at the expected level.

At the end of the day, it's Rockstar's design choice to offer us private lobbies or not. They may make adjustments to maintain low-populated public lobbies and only merging/splitting them at crucial levels.

Rockstar may still ditch private lobbies and instead offer us private instances for every activity. Like choosing to do a Sell Mission in either a private instance (Suffering 5% - 10% decrease in profits) or a Near Sale in a public lobby (No Global Signal) or a Far Sale in a public lobby (Global Signal + High Demand Bonus). Thus, you're only in private during an activity and immediately return to a public lobby upon completion.

Great, here comes a storm because people are gonna think the above is some sort of Tez "insider leak" when it's speculation based on his own observations and opinions.

I personally still expect some systems to change quite a bit from RDO and from whatever was seen in the leaked videos, especially because I'm almost sure GTAO is gonna be one of the last things they'll put focus on after the main story parts/engine parts are done, and they always iterate on things from the previous games or even change them around a bit.

I don't have much to say about GTAO2 yet because we're far away from it and it's impossible for me to go that deep, just based off previous games, to speculate about it just yet.

Man, I know it makes sense to possibly have cryptocurrency and whatnot, but I really hope to see little to none of it.. All that online bullsh*t is so boring to me. Perhaps I'm being a boomer, but just give me paper cash to work with.

I hope the world of cryptocurrency will mostly just be made fun of in VI.

it will be, thats why i think it might flop kind of like rdo did, think of how much content gta online already has; 10 years worth. Impossible gta 6 online can match or surpass the amount of content and within a week people will complain gta 6 online is boring and theres not enough, being used to all the content and things in gta 5 online.
