String
Thought I'd make a topic for the decade old but still very popular Fallout games, seeing as I couldn't find a topic for Fallout NV and only an old topic for Fallout 3 that didn't gain much traction. Who knows if this will either heh, but maybe some discussion can be had here about these games yet. Started a new playthrough of New Vegas recently. Unlike Fallout 3 and the Elder Scrolls games I have pretty much minimal spoiler knowledge about this game so am going in almost blind. The premise itself was so cool, the NCR vs Caesar's Legion gives me Empire v Stormcloak vibes from Skyrim. Though playing a few hours into the game and Caesar's Legion look like a nasty bunch. An army of the enslaved and seeing the town of Nipton... For some reason I want to join them though, rather them than the NCR. I always like going against the empire/establishment in Bethesda games. Though I read in the game description you can join NCR/Legion/Mr House/Independent Vegas so I'll hold my choice just yet. Speaking of choices so far I haven't encountered any significant choice in NV though it is still early. Fallout 3 had the very interesting decide Megatons fate in the early game. I wonder if there will be any Fallout 3 references in NV. 44Orca and Darth_Cruiser 1
Tacymist
I've had a copy of FO3 for 7 or so years now but I never played it. lol It came free when I purchased FO4, I been thinking of giving it a go more recently though, ever since The Pitt expedition came out for 76. But after 4k hours of FO4 and an additional 4k or so hours of 76, I feel like I should branch out to other parts of the wasteland maybe. I did try NV some years back and it was kinda meh. (that's right, NV bros, you heard me) I like the setting of NV though. The cowboy sh*t, being in the south west. I live on the east coast irl, so the south west setting and theme is more interesting to me than the dull sh*t I see every day around here. I live in the ghetto, ain't no tumbleweeds blowing down our streets, just the occasional tumbleweave. But I should take the time to give FO3 a whirl since I would like to blow up Megaton and maybe visit Point Lookout, I'd have to buy that dlc though. And I wanna blow up Megaton because I want the nice room in Tenpenny Tower. I might give NV another try at a later time if I end up really liking 3. It's on GamePass and I feel like it'll be more stable on my Series X than my crappy pc. NV would crash just about every 3 minutes on my pc, but whatevs. String

Jason
I tried NV maybe last year I think it was, problem with that game is while you can see why it's so beloved... mechanically it's aged like sh*t. Fallout 3 I imagine is much in the same boat, as is the older Elder Scrolls titles, though Skyrim's no spring chicken either at this point lol. One of those games where I'd really like to play it but mechanically I just find the game no fun at all. Dragon Age Origins is another game in the same boat for me. I played it for about an hour and couldn't continue either. Just felt too outdated and janky. Shame because I liked the setting and atmosphere String

smokeless6
A year or two back I finally got around to trying Fallout 4. Had such a great time I reinstalled New Vegas, which I hadn't played since 2013, and the cloud had my saves, one of which I picked up after nearly 10 years. Pretty cool. It was a hardcore run at level 17 and I bought all the DLC and played it through to completion. New Vegas is much more of a RPG than FO4 is of course, the systems, mechanics and leveling. I get what others are saying about jank, but I could easily look past this and had great time with it. I thought the DLC was uneven, I liked some more than others, but the experience was great, and after so many years away. I did waffle a bit over who to side with in the end. The Legion is right out. I made them mad it seems, but they got what's coming. But even if I hadn't I wouldn't side with them. Not only are they evil (but perhaps lawfully so), which is bad enough, they are technophobes, and me loves me technology. NCR.. A good choice, but I get the sense that with them in control of the future that nothing would really change. Their corruption holds them down and they'd just keep making the same mistakes. Too expansionist. They can barely hold on to what they have yet they're gung-ho to stretch themselves even more thinly on the ground and keep expanding. Good people fighting an unwinnable fight, made so by their own leadership and doctrine. House. A possibility. Of all the main factions, House is the one with the plan. He may be a dictator, but he has a vision, and looking to colonize other planets seems a worthy goal. I may not like his style, but he's got substance. Yes Man. The independent route.. The loner path fits my style, and what do I care what path the Mojave takes? I'm in it for me, not the greater good of humanity. I've saved it countless times in dozens of games haha. Maybe my path is a free one, and let the others fight over the scraps. And Yes Man it was. My time to shine About the DLC.... All of them were rather pedestrian. Strengths, weaknesses, but none of the four did I think was a complete success. Like for example Lonesome Road. Ulysses is a great character, but the play was a bit too linear. Or Old World Blues. Absolutely brilliant dialog with the Think Tank, but I didn't really care for the missions. The Sink is the best base in Fallout though. Seriously funny, tears in my eyes. I feel sorry for anyone who could deal with the Think Tank and not laugh heartily. One nice benefit of the DLC is each one raises the level cap by 5, so with all four you can hit level 50. And this is a big boost for character building that you cannot achieve without the DLC. Edited January 20 by smokeless6 String
