hopefully not, I understand it makes economic sense but would limit what R* could get out of a truly next gen GTA experience... There was footage of the GTA 6 leak being on a ps4 dev kit that got people scared, its not definite, but what is your final prediction on this

Knowing that GTAVI will not release before at least 2024, I think it's pretty safe to say that the game will not be cross-gen. On top of that, making the game cross-gen would be idiotic as it would limit Rockstar with what they can do. RDR2 already pushed the PS4 and the Xbox One to their limits, so if they want GTAVI to push beyond, it would make more sense to make these games only for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S

i am of that thinking too.. but how do you make of the fact that a ps4 devkit was seen in the leaked footage?

It could have been a PS5 devkit. PS5 devkits use an UI that looks almost identical to the PS4 menu

I would say no, by the time the game releases I feel majority of console players would have current gen consoles.

I've noticed they are becoming easier and easier to get and by the time the game releases whether that would be next year or the year after more people would have these consoles.

Zero chance of game coming to PS4 and Xbox One.

These consoles will be 10 years old in 10 months, most 2023 games coming after Q1 of this year already ditched last gen consoles.

Oh hey it's finally a topic instead of the same message repeated over and over in the VI speculation general chat :kekw: Considering the game is probably releasing late next year or something I very much doubt it'll be cross-gen, in fact I think there's no way.

If it was a one and done single player game then it could be a gigantic maybe, but even then I doubt R* would want what could potentially be their only game this gen (there's a scary thought) to be one not made for current gen consoles, especially when it's releasing 3-5 years into said generation lol.

But as I've said before, GTAO means with absolute certainity that VI has to be current gen only. Launching GTAO2 on last gen consoles would be f*cking stupid.

From everything we know so far, Rockstar is planning to support VI for at least 6-8 years, so there's pretty much zero chance of it coming out on last-gen consoles. By late 2024, there'll be easily over 100-110m consoles on the market, so that's not gonna be an issue either if they're going for a console-exclusive launch like most of their previous games.

And there's a good chance that they'll cut GTAO's last-gen support before VI even comes out.

I'd say that's a lowball my self lol. I think 10-15 years is probably what they're expecting at this point.

I did internationally lowball that number a bit :kekw:, but yeah, with potential map expansions and all, the game can last just as long as V, if not longer. I wonder if they'll go for EFLC-like campaigns with each map expansion, aside from the usual online content. That'd certainly mitigate the droughts between their large-scale releases.

I have a feeling this next GTA Online, which will likely be built from the ground up for longevity and complexity (unlike the OG GTAO), might be the definitive edition they'll be updating for years to come, the true live service that's here to stay much like Fortnite et al., so I can definitely see expansions like that happening. Much like Fortnite is jumping from UE4 to UE5, the next GTAO could also be prepared for such types of engine updates, so they could introduce hypothetical GTA VII stuff into it too, and so on.

GTA V's online wasn't built with any of the current things in mind, no developer or executive at R* imagined what it would become, and there's only so much you can tack onto old tech, but I reckon the next one will, so... Which would likely mean there'd be no GTAO 3, just GTAO.

I agree 100%, but at the same time, you have to remember, THIS version was also supposed to "add more cities over time as future GTA titles are released."

I just don't think the engine was equipped enough for that vision. Now that we are approaching photorealism? I think that goal is back on the table.

I'll try to find the article, if possible...

Found it:

https://www.gameinformer.com/games/grand_theft_auto_v/b/xbox360/archive/2013/09/12/hands-on-with-rockstars-ambitious-take-on-online-play.aspx

Every part of Grand Theft Auto Online has been designed with expansion in mind. A dream of ours is to create an entire Grand Theft Auto world that consists of everything we've done or are going to do then let the player freely move between them. The launch of Grand Theft Auto Online is a beginning for us; it gets us a little closer to being able to make that happen.

be honest you want gta 6 in the old gen or exclusive next gen ?

Why would anyone wants Gta 6 in the old gen? We are at least 2 years away from release and eventually everyone will move next gen consoles. Otherwise we still have to play ps1 games today.

No way. Current generation already stagnated a lot by crossgen releases and there's literally only several pure nextgen games on the market. Currentgen is 3 years old, we should let go 8th gen finally. The limits of [email protected] [email protected] are pretty clear and last years it's pretty hard to play games due to each having same limits and weak spots, like poor sandboxes, super-bad AI, awful level-transitions and lack of seamless spaces without loads, etc. Especially suffer open-worlds the most, that didn't evolve much since 7th gen.

Even RDR2 had to sacrifice many sandbox elements and mechanics regarding human-NPC interactions. It's pretty clear by comparing what they've promised and how it doesn't work in release. GTAVI must be bigger (not only in quantity but also quality) and it will not be possible if they make crossgen release. Also, don't forget about further perspective. Game will release late 9th gen, including Online. Both will need long support and content. It is game for years and will be popular on 10th gen hardware for sure. It is huge mistake to develop it for pastgen, because architectural limitation may again affect the spaghetti-code factor. GTAV in current state is piece of bad-working code because it wasn't meant for such long and agressive support.

Game that is fully built upon current more flexible and fast architecture, including delivery systems of PS and Xbox such as Velocity and Kraken - may actually be super-easy to support, fix and add much totally new content and mechanics later. I think no need to mention mid and high-end PCs with good SSDs will also feel the result.

The industry must let pastgen go. It's too much of stagnation in games.

your best pal

R* makes games and sells copies in the millions...100 millions etc...who do R* want to sell their crack to if most people on planet earth can't smoke it, since they got no fire?!

a ps5/gta 6 bundle should be a given, but really, when is that gonna happen?! don't know about the latest x box, whether it's seemingly unavailable 9 times out of 10, just like that ps5 - but it's not in every other household neither I think.

Considering there's a combined 48+ million current gen consoles sold (PS5 & XB S X|S), with that number possibly doubling by 2025 when GTA VI's released, I don't think R* will be worrying about last gen. They'd have to sacrifice a lot of computing power to go back to last gen, which is now 10 years old. I'm looking forward to seeing them take full advantage of the current gen consoles, very few developers have unfortunately.

Probably the snowflakes that always complain whenever a game is announced to only be available on current-gen consoles because they are either too lazy to go find a console to buy by using the "nO oNe cAn bUy pS5 oR xBoX sErIeS x!" or because they can't afford one so they use the stupid argument that "i sHoUlDn'T bE fOrCeD tO bUy a nEw cOnSoLe tO pLaY nEw gAmEs!"

Just current gen consoles (Xbox Series S/X and PS5 ) would be my guess. No point in releasing it on older consoles, especially that there still quite a time to the premiere.

I would like GTA 6 to be completely dedicated to the new generations of consoles (PS5...), this due to the great power that they have both in terms of storage and graphics. It would have great potential to be the best GTA of all time. However, I think that this will not be possible because analyzing the leaks, it is most likely for the previous generation of consoles for various reasons.

1. Little supply of next-generation consoles.

2. The leaks of the gameplays clearly show that it is material that has been in development for a long time and they seem more graphic than the previous generation.

3. GTA VI will be huge and its sales projections must be that way, therefore it will be for the previous and new generation of consoles.

GTA VI is a PS5 - XboxSeries X/S game, there's absolutely no way it's launching on last gen, no way.

And before someone throws the dollar sign my way, yes I know and that an argument I made myself at one point, but they wanna support this game for a long time, potentially making more and more cash, putting it on a platform they'll have to cut off soon isn't very good business.

Unless you wanna consider Series S last gen :prismkek:

A current gen (PS5/Xbox Series) GTA will be a console seller. Those that haven't upgraded to current gen certainly will for GTA VI.

There isn't a hope in hell GTA will release on console on anything other than PS5/Series consoles that will be 3+ years old by the time it releases. I know Covid will probably add another year or two on to this generation but 3+ years is practically halfway through a generation's life cycle.

No, Rockstar and Take-Two would shoot themselves in the foot if they released GTAVI on PS4 and Xbox One.

Honestly I can't even understand how people can say "but more people will be able to play it so it will make Rockstar/Take Two more money" when they argue that GTAVI should be available on last gen consoles.

Because first of all why do you care? You don't work for Rockstar or Take Two, it sounds more like you are making up an excuse so that you can justify needing the game on your 10+ year old console on life support that can't even run a game without sounding like a jet engine and crashing the game every hours.

And on a business and technical level, it's dumb as f*ck because not only would Rockstar end up being limited in what they can do with the game, meaning that consumers might end up complaining or being disappointed because the game will barely feel like an upgrade compared to GTAV and RDR2, but it will also be a problem in the long term with GTA Online as Rockstar will end up having to support consoles that will soon become obsolete, meaning they will be limited in what they can add to the game and you can bet your ass that tons of angry gamers will come bitching and moaning en masse when they see that Rockstar ends up not releasing content on last-gen consoles before inevitably pulling the plug on their servers.
