what’s the point of depositing cash?

Says make sure to deposit your cash as others players can take it, why?

If your character dies / is killed whilst holding cash, they lose an amount of it - usually left on the ground in a bundle of notes, which despawns after a short time.

 

Obviously this can be stolen by other players, especially if they were the ones that killed you - and if your character keeps dropping money when they kill you, it's an incentive for them to keep doing so. 

 

This isn't a big deal as (I think) the maximum amount your character loses each time is $500. If you bank your cash (or turn it into casino chips) then it won't be left behind if/when your character dies. 

 

I guess it's a hold-over from the early days of GTA when $500 was a decent amount of money! Rockstar probably didn't want people continually contacting them with sob-stories of 'being farmed by other players'. I dunno...

You still pay 500$ hospital bill if your cash is banked. So there is no difference when dying. With unbanked cash you can even recover it from ground (ofc no one bothers) while with hospital tax it's just gone.

 

Other players can also call mugger on you, but it takes only 10k max and it barely ever happens.

There is a very good reason to bank all your cash. I got over 2 million of a dead player (which did not banked his cash!), thankyou...

That was more likely from a friendly cash drop. I’ve never lost cash when I’ve died yet, apart from maybe the $500 hospital bill. 
 

the answer is because both of your characters can share deposited cash or because of the gooch.

Well, some players never bank their cash and I was probably lucky...

Max you can drop is still 500$ regardless how much you have on hand.

a mugger can rob u for 10k if u have that much on u and if ur afk and a player knows it, they can kill the mugger and get that 10k and then kill u and get even more
