jayhawk66
When i start up Vice City, the beginning animation (Rockstar logo and then the Vice city trailer-type opening) runs fine. But the next screen (With the Vice City logo and cartoon pics surrounding it) it just freezes. Have any of you had this same problem. Im thinking it may be my video card but just wanted to see if anything else might have caused it. Thanks in advance Jayhawk66

jayhawk66
933mhz Cant tell what the hell my video card is! What else do you need to know?
Vicetopia
If you don't know what you're video card is, then it can't be that great... It's probably a stock video card like an SiS or something. And if you don't know your RAM, then it's probably 128 or maybe even lower. How did you get your computer? Obviously you didn't build it? Try to find out the specs. EDIT: Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel. Then go into "System" and click the "Device Manager" tab. and expand the "Display Adapters" section. Then, tell us what you're video card is. jayhawk66
Tell me if this is even a video card: INTEL® 82810E GRAPHICS CONTROLLER if that aint it then i dont know what the video card is. Im probably going to have to get a new one. If thats a video card then it cant have 32mb with my luck.
Vicetopia
If it's under the Display Adapters setting, then that's it. It doesn't sound like a video card, but it's probably stock. If you want to know how much RAM you have, when you reboot, it shows up on your screen for about 10 seconds when you first turn it on.
jayhawk66
Mine doesnt show the ram at the beginning like others. That is my video card. But does it have the required 32m? I dont know. Is there something else that could cause this? I had another game do this thing sometimes and all i had to do then was to make it run in a window so i could close it. It never froze again, but i cant do it with this game!

That's a video card with 4MB of RAM that doesn't even exist (it just steals it from the system RAM). An 810e is crappy for 2D even, 3D on it is repulsive sh*t. Hell, it's not a video card, it's a poseur of a video card. sysnode.org

jayhawk66
Does phone technical support at rockstar do any good or are they no help in fixing a problem like this?
sambowie
Your gfx-card, INTEL® 82810E GRAPHICS CONTROLLER, is propably integrated to your mobo (motherboard). You should open your case (got a screwdriver?) and check if the mobo has a free AGP-slot for expansion. If free then buy a new graphic-card. If not, check if you have free PCI-slots. Where are PCI-gfx-cards, eg. GeForce4 MX420 PCI. Prices around 50e/$. GTA - Vice City has system-requirements and your system doesn't match them, sorry mate. It's not R*'s problem. They only made their game for us. Check the requirements before you buy a game. Your CPU is quite ok, assuming it's a P3-933. You should have at least 256MB of RAM. Your gfx-card should be at least GeForce3 or Radeon8500. My own built PC: P4-2400, 1024MB DDR, GeForce4 etc
jayhawk66
Thanks for the replys. I knew i would have to get a better graphics card, i just didnt know if that was what i had to replace. I have 127 mb of ram which is the minimum requirement, but the rest of my computer should meet the requirement after i get a new video card. If it doesnt work after all that $hit then i guess im gonna hafta ask tech support. You can tell im gonna be thrilled.
