Save file corrupted

Hi Samutz! Hello everyone! I have a problem with my save file. It's corrupted and I can't load it. It happens after I completed the mission "The Meat business". As soon as the mission ends, it will autosave and when I check it, it states "save file corrupted". I tried uploading it to GTASNP but I can't because it says " can't determine game type" or something like that. There's plenty of mods I'm using but I've activated just a few. I've also noticed that if I don't quit my current game and save it other than any safehouse, it will overwrite that corrupted save and I can load it like normal. Everytime I save it inside a safehouse though, it will revert back to corrupted. Only saving it outside savepoints like outside the Four dragon's casino. I also noticed and I hope this helps you pinpoint the problem but I tried loading an earlier save but as long as the corrupted save file is inside my user files, all my previous saves are unaccessible. Removing that corrupted save file from the user directory and loading an earlier save works. I never had this problem before. I can save inside a safehouse with no problems. It just got corrupted today. I kindly ask for your help man. I badly wanna complete san andreas and this gets along the way. I only use 2 cheats everytime. Infinite health and blipfix. Can I kindly send my savefile to your mail or something? I'm playing on PC windows 10 home pro btw. Thank you so much in advance and I'm so sorry for this long post. Cheers!

@Gem Tan Samutz may ask you to upload your savefile to anywhere and post it here.. If it's a classic San Andreas i can also test it for you right after uploading..😉

Hi! @ArmanCan. I'm afraid it's not a classic GTA san andreas game. It's from DODI repacks. It's like the classic only with cleo scripts and a modloader for various visual improvements like car paintjobs and whatnot. I also downloaded other HD model of car's DFF and TXT file so that might also be a reason but it's you guys that are the expert in this hehe. I tried uploading the corrupted save file to GTASNP but it won't accept it. It just says something in the line of "can't determine game type". Is there any way I can post my corrupted save here? If you'll test it, I owe you a lot man! Thank you so much!!!

I'm also afraid that i won't/can't help you and according to Samutz's explanation your job is getting difficult.. It seems you are going to have to remove your suspicious mods and start a new game 🙂

It was actually playing nice yesterday and the days before that.  Nothing seems out of the ordinary. I installed an HD model mod for the Patriot car but I removed it. It's just after the meat business mission that things go haywire. If I save the game inside any safehouse, it will corrupt the savefile. It won't happen if I save in a savepoint outside like the four dragon's casino.  Can I at least try to upload it here and maybe you guys can take a good look at it? I hope it's alright with you. Thank you!😔

Hi! @vladimirdog2021. I'm not sure if reinstalling the game will fix it since my other earlier saves work just fine. I'll give it a shot though.  I think it's a save file related error but I could be wrong. I read something about checksum in the savefile or something like that. I'll try to upload the corrupted save file here in case you guys would like to check and see. Thank you so much in advance!

You don't need to reinstall Windows if your save files were corrupted.

Make sure you have the right GTA San Andreas version, and that game is pointing to the user files directory.

It is possible to examine the file with a Savegame Editor..

- You can try toedit the file but after clicking "Save" button the editor is freezing, the file is starting to expand, and occupying my harddisk!!!!!!!

- After that i have to close the editor by using "Task Manager"

I'm using a V1, NON STEAM game and it recognize your file but it is not possible to see the edit/last save time..

I think this is the "Error Message" that you've talked about.. I've experienced/tested so many files but i think your save file is unfortunately hopeless case..😧

Right click on the shortcut to GTA San Andreas. Change the destination directory to the Steam version of this game, or to nothing at all.

The file size of this save is larger than a standard SA PC save file. This is why gtasnp.com doesn't accept it and probably why the game says it is corrupt.

Looking over the file's contents, the thing that stands out the most is that the script object pool in Block 2 is much larger than a typical save file. A typical save file has about 70 objects. Yours has 590 objects.

My best guesses are:

  • One of your mods is adding a ton of objects to the game but not cleaning them up. There is plenty of room in the save file to do this normally, but saving after The Meat Business mission is pushing it over the limit.
  • One of your mods is preventing the game from cleaning up objects at the end of the missions, causing them to pile up in the save until The Meat Business pushes it over the limit.

The fix would be to try to clean up the objects from the save, but... Firstly, I don't have the expertise to know what's safe to delete. And secondly, your mods might just cause them to pile up again and cause this issue again.

I'll ask several questions:

1. What operating system do you have?

2. Is the save file corrupted after you exit GTA San Andreas or tried to save the game in one attempt?

3. Can you download "The Meat Business" save file for the game, copy and paste it to "GTA San Andreas User Files"?

4. Do you play GTA San Andreas at your computer monitor's native resolution?

If you don't know how to give me your computer specifications, you can easily find it either by pressing "Windows key + X", click on system where it will tell you the basic specifications of your system or you can type and enter in the Windows search bar "dxdiag" and then click on "Display" where it will tell you what GPU you have.

This looks like a classic case of corruption from bad cleo scripts adding new objects every time a save is loaded. Fortunately, the SASE v1.00 save editor has an object tool that can delete objects. I'm not sure if the editor simply marks the object so it won't be re-saved, or if it can actually cut out the object and pad the end of the file to maintain the proper file size. More than likely, it won't resize the save, so you should attempt repairs on a save that isn't corrupt.

The following objects are repeated dozens of times and should never be present in a standard save file. Since the objects are repeated it can be assumed that the corresponding cleo scripts won't need to find an object that you deleted - it/they will continue to create new ones.

GATE_AUTOR (985)
GATE_AUTOL (986)
ST_ARCH_PLAN (3111)
AMMO_BOX_c2 (2358)
AMMO_BOX_c5 (2359)
CIGAR (3044)

SASE can be used as a diagnostic tool to help determine which script(s) are adding extra objects.

SASE's warning about deleting objects is appropriate. Not because it's a buggy feature, but because deleting objects required by scripts will result in a crash. I would suggest starting slowly, and testing frequently.

Everything was probably explained by @Gem Tan saying “I’m not sure if reinstalling the game would help”, even that I told him to reinstall GTA San Andreas which I find hard to believe.
