Why does a bmp of a new player txd have to be put in 'models' folder, as well as being put in gta3.img?

Hi everyone, pardon me for possibly asking what's already been answered, but I haven't found any previous topics on the matter so I'd figure I'd ask here. Cut to the chase, I decided to replace Tommy's in-game skin with the one in cutscenes. After replacing both the txd and dff files in gta3.img, the end result was Tommy's face being all deformed. The solution to the problem was placing the new bmp file in the folder models, which brings the question, why do I have to also change the texture by placing the new file in aforementioned folder, and will I have to repeat this for every single outfit Tommy has. I'm looking into revamping the game for myself (since R* weren't capable of doing the job themselves) and would like to know the reasoning behind this issue, as well as any other possible obstacles I may run into while making my own remaster. I'm aware of the tutorial list, but I couldn't find the solution to this problem, and one small issue with them is they're all 15+ years old and all those images are lost forever.

I would be extremely grateful if anyone could answer this. Thanks in advance

Cheers

Open and understand shopping.dat

Look to the haircut section

#type is a number and can be one of the following

1. column gives the txd

3. column gives the dff

So look to "player_face" in 1. column for txd, it  have "head" as modelname in 3. column for dff
It's the default player haircut

that means

player_face.txd can be used for head.dff

it also means that player_face.txd can be used for cs_head.dff (cutscene model)

Then look to next row
hairblond.txd can also be used for head.dff as well as for cs_head.dff

Then look to mohawk
mohawk.txd, mohawkblond.txd, mohawkpink.txd and mohawkbeard.txd can be used for mohawk.dff

and also for cs_mohawk.dff

Then look to afro
afro.txd, afrotash.txd, afrobeard.txd, afroblond.txd and afrogoatee.txd can be used for afro.dff

But wow, wait
there exist cs_afro.dff, cs_afrotash.dff and cs_afrobeard.dff inside player.img

so for cutscene

afrotash.txd only works for cs_afrotash.dff
and
afrobeard.txd only works for cs_afrobeard.dff
