Alternate mission dialogue mod

Recommended Posts

You know how in GTA IV there are two different dialogue for most missions? More specifically the missions where you drive with another person to a destination, one dialogue plays the first time you play the mission, and an alternate one plays if you fail the mission and retry it?

Well, I was thinking, since most people are already experienced in this game enough and barely fail any missions by now, we have pretty much missed the alternate dialogue. So there needs to be a mod where the dialogue which plays after you fail a mission plays in your first try. I want to get a chance to hear those other dialogues without having to fail the mission once and repeat them again.

I know there are videos on Youtube that showcase both dialogues, but I figured a mod like this would make for the perfect reason for a new playthrough, and also to keep the game fresh.

I have absolutely now knowledge in modding so I don't know if this is hard to achieve or even possible, but from guessing I think it should be doable.

Idk man that sounds like you’re trying to catch a flying pig. Why not just fail the mission the second you start it and, when prompted, retry it so you can hear the alternate dialogue?

Because, I don't want to do that for every single fricking mission.  Completely spoils the playthrough.

I could also just go on Youtube and listen to them there, but as I said, its a good way to keep the playthrough fresh.

I did a play through of IV like that and I don’t think it ruined it. It was just 10 seconds out of your day.

Not only that but it’ll give you a chance to hear all the unique fail calls/dialogue too!

I've done this because I enjoy that kind of thing but it does take a LONG time to fail missions enough times to hear all alternate dialogue and fail calls to be fair (since failing at the beginning won't necessarily get you all the alternative dialogue in the mission and some have many different fail calls/scenes for failing in different ways), even longer if you include all the random encounter missions which also have them. Best way for most people would be to watch youtube videos that have everything.

“I want to experience all the alternate and fail lines without having to actually fail anything to get them”

Idk maybe it’s just something I genuinely don’t understand. Don’t get me wrong, I love the fact that IV implemented alternate dialogue and unique fail calls for the situation, but I feel like going out of your way to get them to play is just an incredibly unnatural way to play. Maybe I’m just being no fun idk

Yeah that's what I'm saying, I only did it that way after already playing the game "naturally" a lot. For most people the best way to hear it would just be to look it up on youtube.

If you want to hear as many of the alternative lines of dialogue that have been compiled so far by an individual, I would recommend checking out whatever57010’s GTA IV, TLaD and TBoGT All Possibilities playlists on YouTube. This may well be the closest you’ll get at this stage.

Yeah they're incredibly thorough! Also if you don't mind reading it or want to search for a particular thing you think you might have missed this script seems to have everything/close to everything as far as alternative dialogue goes (not fail calls though): https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps3/933036-grand-theft-auto-iv/faqs/58223

Role-Play Walkthrough

The mission where Niko and Dimitri go to the porn store and then Dimitri buys you a gun from the black market, the second alternate dialogue is so much better because it gives more lore for the HD universe. I feel like it should have been the default one.

Dimitri says I want to take you to the gun store, and niko says "ah yes I've heard of your American gun stores, Ammu-Nation, shopping carts full of flamethrowers and grenade launchers". then Dimitri says they dont have them in Liberty City because of the Mayor's strict gun control.

To my knowledge thats the only time Ammu-Nation is mentioned in IV, and it makes ammu-nation being in V with unrestricted access to RPGs and full-auto a little less jarring, since its mentioned in IV implying that those stores do still exist in the more realistic world of IV. In my opinion they should have definitely waited until VI to have ammu-nation. Because IRL NY and California have comparably strict gun control and are both blue states, so having them both with the gun control would have given us the opportunity to use Trevor/Chef's weapon dealing business as a gameplay mechanic for the illegal weapons, and then in VI with vice city Florida being a red state we would finally get the full blown ammu-nation and it would have worked better imo.

Agreed. The men suffering part on the way to the sex shop is pretty funny too. Another one that stands out is the Roman Sorrow alternate dialogue where Niko will allude to banging hookers but always wearing a "Saddle on the horse before he rides her" funny sh*t.
