help me with baconmobile customization glitch

xbox 360, im trying the thing where u customize a vehicle, then get in a cop vehicle and do the thing near the helcopter pad, etc. after i switch characters the auto is gone and im just standing in the water, i tried with the interceptor and the stanier and the same thing happened
