I really don't get why people hate the fact of having a female protag? 

She's hot and badass, I'd choose her over Jason, any day

Another sulution would be selective raytracing like in some racing games, so you have a scene with multiple cars around you, not all of them get reflected in the mirrors or body of the vehicle, the game picks and chooses which one based on some factors like how close a car is and stuff like that.

 

I feel like the problem with RT reflections and performance will be real in multiplayer where things will inevitably get crazier and crazier with more things happening on screen at once.

Some kids and the "I only play as man" players aside. Some are sort of concerned with how they will write her. They do make a good point there but we should wait when it's out and we see the story and her character. I also hope she's far unique and not anything generic like I implied above comment.

The problem I see with people asking about the whole "she should be well written" stuff is how it's not nearly as much of a concern for the male protagonist.

 

"Male Protagonist? cool, whatever.

Female protagonist? Well I hope she's well written."

 

I know it's not everyone and god knows people at least here have their issues with GTA protagonists from the previous games, but this argument in particular is being brought up a lot for the female.

 

Edit: Time to call myself out for this because I did it as soon as she was confirmed to be a protagonist, my immediate reaction was to say I hope she's well written, but in my defense, I said so because I am planning to pick her for most of my playthrough lol and also in response to people idolizing Sadie in RDR2 despite her flaws, here's hoping both protagonists are well written because we'll probably be stuck with them for a looooong time

Good to know that eating and gaining/losing weight is extreme realism. I'm wondering what some people would say about cleaning house

The biggest concern is that as we've seen for so long, any recently released piece of media that advertised a female protagonist made it so just for the sake of being inclusive and it serving as a way for directors to get their political ideas across.

There's a chance of a Sadie Adler 2.0 minus the widow element, so Lucia might not be that crazy to begin with. Sadie left a sour taste in a lot of boys mouths because of her rebelling, but then she grew on me as she helped our boahs. As long as she's not being overly obnoxious, she's good in my book.

When it affects gameplay like it does in RDR2 (and it did in GTASA) it's not the same.

To be fair, I’m sure everyone’s always argued “I’d like X protagonist as long as their well written”. Regardless of their race or gender.  With this being a first for the series I get the concern. Nobody wants something forced and shoehorned in, no matter what it is. Before V came out and we were getting another black protagonist I really wanted him to be a well written fleshed out character, and he very much wasn’t.

I get the concern but I think many people just automatically dismiss female leads just because of the few bad examples, I mean Horizon, Control and Tomb Raider have female leads and they are very well written characters, just to name a few.

I disagree. Yeah the starving to death system was annoying but I enjoyed being able to change the weight of the character.

Realism in RDR 2 was very good thing and I think that It would fit modern GTA perfectly, It's just some bullsh*t mechanics that they need to get rid off, like bounty and wanted system and slow scrolling through virtual book just to check one category of items instead of all available clothing items at once.

This is not going to be a thing in VI but losing your horse in RDR 2 is so stupid, you level up bound with your horse for 4 or 5 hours to lose it because sheriff shoot your horse and shoot you shortly after in gunfight.

Keyword: boys. Probably only boys couldn't understand her behavior at the beginning of the game. IMO she's easily among best written characters Rockstar has ever created.

I am nowhere near qualified to have a say on the matter but I just think a female protagonist, or any protagonist for that matter should have a balance to what they're capable of doing, there should be tasks that aren't easily achieved for the leads, there should be moments of weaknesses, flaws... things to be admired and criticized about the personalities, it's what makes them realistic.

I think the best way to go about writing a female character is "write a character like any other. She just happens to be female."

 

If you go to a writing team and tell them to write a GTA protagonist and leave out their sex, but giving them personality guidelines and they manage to write something good, sex shouldn't matter nor would it be noticeable. If you get a good character and then start to focus on "but she's a woman", yikes.

See, that's the issue I got with Sadie and people who idolize her, she has flaws that people are welling to ignore for whatever reason, any other point is "boys" like you just did here.

 

She's an absolute badass; has some awesome moments like when she got the gang back together and the final missions in chapter 6 where she was basically your companion fixing all that mess but she gets ridiculous at times that to me it kinda ruined her character, I get it, revenge and tragedy but eeeeh not sure if it was well presented at it could have been.

 

Aloy in Horizon is awesome, she's very powerful but she has moments where she was wrong, and could be criticized for being so, I feel like Lara Croft in the last Tomb Raider was similar in that regard, she was acting selfishly the entire first portion of the game from what I remember, then she came around and realized she had to change her was.
