29, I'm already 29...

I’m 43, and ill greeted by Mr. 44 on April 6th. Luckily I still look like I’m 5. 👀

That reminds me - I remember on the Stern Show, when Howard turned 44 they had this great ‘voice of God’ style announcer who used to do these short little drops in between commercial breaks. I don’t know who wrote them - probablyJackie. And it went like, “Happy 44th Birthday Howard! Congratulations, you’re half dead! Does anyone think you’re going to live to 88? I don’t think so!”

Any concern towards the trouble the Xbox Series S is giving some game developers apparently? I've been reading a few things here and there on Twitter about it, and they mention how the Series S is a bottleneck to this current gen of gaming. That if companies want to release their games on the Series X, they must also run on the Series S.

I don't know much about it, but I hope this won't affect GTA VI too much, since we're all hoping for a true next gen experience. Regardless of this, I know Rockstar is the only one to still knock it out of the park, but it would suck if they too had to cut back on things due to the less powerful Series S.

Only cases of developer having problems with Series S so far were cases of some literal nobody without record of good games or with record of crappy technical state bitching on Twitter. Only case of bigger game that was heard on Twitter so far was with Gotham Knights - a game that looked like game from 2015 at best and barely ran on 4090.

Unless graphical fidelity is your biggest concern then theres literally nothing in Series S that would force the developers to cut down games especially that most important part of the system which allows for making game larger and more advanced - The CPU - is the same thing XSX and PS5 has.

Also with games cut down to sub 900p resolutions RAM shouldnt be the concern although RAM is the biggest Series S issue and it’s speculated that some of the future games might require developers to limit the resolution to 720p so there would be enough space for gameplay. For now devs are just decreasing texture res instead of going for stupid low resolutions. Also Microsoft is working on some software solution for Series S that would give Series S more RAM (some magic optimizations that will give devs more headroom with current amounts of ram)

The more I play RDR2 with FSR 2 enabled the more I realize how useful it will be for Performance mode in GTA VI for consoles.

It really fixes the blurriness of RDR2's TAA, and gives you more frames as a bonus.

E&E also uses FSR, IIRC, so I’d expect to see (a further iteration of) the tech in VI. Probably helps a great deal in terms of maintaining a consistent frame rate for the performance modes.

That said, I’m really hoping VI has some sort of 60FPS mode. Even with how vastly improved the CPUs in 9th Gen consoles are compared to previous gens, I honestly wouldn’t put it past Rockstar to force a mandatory 30FPS cap if they feel like pushing the consoles to their absolute limits like they always do (graphically speaking). At the very least, uncapped frame rate and/or [email protected] modes for VRR and high refresh rate displays respectively would be nice.

Yeah, but sadly E&E has FSR 1.0 on consoles which was more blurry than FSR2. Maybe they will patch FSR2 later for them.

Regarding the performance mode we don't really know what Rockstar will do, but 40 fps mode for 120 Hz TV's would be very welcome if they can't do full 60 fps (maybe CPU bottleneck)

In fact 40 fps mode should also be added to E&E on consoles!

Yeah, it was something I was slightly worried about myself and was hoping wouldn't hinder Rockstar's scope and overall vision for the game after things I heard about the Series S but the explanation above alleviated about concerns of it affecting GTA VI's potential in any notable way.

I don't think Xbox Series S version of GTA 6 will be underperforming, remember it's trying to hit 1440P and 4 TFLOPS at 60 FPS frame cap is enough.

There may be an upscale from 1080p but I consider it unlikely.

Series S is nowhere near a 1440p machine. It's basically a 720p-1080p machine when talking about the actual current-gen titles. You can see it in games like Metro Exodus EE (which itself has last-gen roots), where they target [email protected] but the resolution drops below 540p in demanding scenarios.

For VI on Series S, I can easily see R* settling for [email protected] for fidelity mode and a performance mode (if that exists at all) with zero RT features and heavy cutbacks to visual fidelity. It'll also be interesting to see how FSR works across the consoles if they choose to implement it.

Series S could have passed as a 1440p machine at launch, but not for AAA titles a couple years from now

Hogwarts Legacy is only 900p in 60 fps mode on Series S, and it even has exclusive loading screen when exiting the castle, no other platforms has these loading screens. Lack of RAM I Suppose - only 10 Gigs.

I really think it's fair to worry about GTA 6 due to Series S having 10 gigs of RAM, but I don't want to start a long argument either...

I can’t wait to see the Strangers & Freaks in Vice City and the surrounding areas. Surely, there’ll be some weirdos out in the Glades inspired area 😄

As I mentioned before I really hope Rockstar hasn’t forgot about Jerry Kapowitz. If his Gun Shop and Liquor Store is still up and running some 15 years later in Vice City I’d be shocked if he didn’t blow the money on drugs and strippers

On 3/6/2023 at 3:08 PM, TheMadTitan said:

I appreciate you being open-minded on the critique instead of dismissing it all together. My intention wasn't to hate on RDR2's gunplay and dismiss as all bad neither, there are notable positives in it, but I just think there's a lot issues and improvements Rockstar could make upon it (not just the sway and health) in future titles like GTA VI and RDR3 to get them to be more on par with Max Payne 3 more dynamic and fluid 3rd person gunplay, or even of a game like Uncharted 4's.

Regarding your question, "scripted" wasn't the best word for it, but I couldn't find a proper term at the time, so what I meant was what I mentioned about the sway hindering player skill ceiling and progression because no matter how much one personally gets better at the game, the same amount of excessive sway remains in the game, even under cover, and it causes it to be a major annoyance for a consol free-aim player like myself as well. Ideally, the sway should've been based on your core levels, the polish of your weapon, your skill level with a gun and the type of tonic Arthur took that enhances a certain attribute like focus (the immersive aspects is something RDR2 didn't delve into deeply in in that way but that's another topic). Even a game like The Last of Us had you be able to remove weapon sway once you upgraded your guns.

Note: I don't mind sway as much in GTA since there are automatic weapons and so if you miss a shot at a target, it's not a big deal because there are 10 more shots coming after it.

And I disagree. I think the damage caused by weapons that still leaves enemies getting up and all around bullet spongy, compared to RDR1's firearms, is a noticeable issue imo. It's not totally immersion breaking for me, but it poses two problems; it makes gunplay less satisfying than it could've been and it creates an inconsistency in the game's overall logic as well as in the argument in defense of RDR2's gunplay; that it's apparently realistic and less than stellar aspects of it like the sway are pointed out as examples of that, yet it also has a playable character and enemies who take shotguns rounds like it's nothing. It's a fundamental problem of mine with RDR2's implementation of "realism" but again, is a whole other topic onto itself.

Your idea of the reticle sway being reduced when our experience with each gun improves and depending of our core levels is pretty clever, although Rockstar has made it less annoying throughtout RDR2's lifetime, the gunplay on Patch 1.31 is way better than on Version 1.00 as an example. Regarding the npcs having more health than on RDR1, I think it's a reflect of Arthur having way too much health too, Arthur's maximum health level should be the equivalent of level 5, the ring around the core would be completed just the same as the current level 10, but taking more damage per shots, I think you understand what I mean, and the npcs should be as easy to kill as on the previous game. Arthur's health and the npcs health is my only complaint about RDR2 nowadays to be honest, I even got used to the reticle sway throughout the years, if Rockstar changes at least this on GTA 6 and RDR3 it will make the experience even better on both games.
