There's no chance of them spending the amount of resources required to make something like that just for a mere expansion, which at best will cost $40. If they wanted to do one, they'd make a completely separate game, not an expansion. It's not about "they can't do it". It's "they won't do it". Even without taking GTAO into account, it was never realistic.

I mean, I don't care how someone will call it, it's just marketing term. Rockstar could even call it "paid patch" and charge 70$ for it for all I care. I'm paying for the content and quality of it, not some nice words on press release.

The end of everyone on this discussion thread will be if Rockstar states in the next community update, "Development is going well for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series and we can't wait to share with you all official details about the game in the coming years.":prismkek:

As I said, it's not about "can't do it". It's "won't do it", because resources are finite. Rockstar will almost always choose to focus on their next game instead of creating an expansion that requires significant effort and can't be added directly to the online.

Look at what happened to RDO. Exactly when lockdown and remote work started, Rockstar immediately shifted all of their attention to VI because they couldn't work at full strength and resources were finite. RDO's content started drying out exactly after mid-2020. It's not a coincidence. They couldn't stop supporting GTAO for obvious reasons. Priorities.

 

And it's my speculation, but any post-launch expansion will absolutely have online in mind. There're no two ways about it, no matter how some people feel about it.

I don't really mind it, their games are as complete as can be and absolutely best in class. I think, I just want them to keep making games, that they really want to make, that they feel passionate about.

Oh, they'll absolutely keep making games. Even Take Two wants to see more games from Rockstar while reducing the gaps between each subsequent release and sequels, although the latter part is easier said than done. If they ever want to go back to producing more than one large-scale game at the same time, that'll require their studios to expand massively. It's insane how resource-intensive modern AAA development is.

I like idea of more games from Rockstar if possible but sequels being released more often? Nah, their games are insanely complex, you can do only so much until you start to lower the value of IP and to be honest I wouldn't like something like RDRII being released every 5 years, one game from those huge GTA/RDR IP per each console generation is absolutely fine.

Zelnick was basically saying, "8+ years between sequels is probably a bit too long." They probably want to bring that down to 6-7 years if they can, but that's easier said than done. The recent Dead Space remake took 2.5 years to make, whereas the original game took less than that to make. That says it all. I'd like to see R* make 30-40-hour games between their large games, but the market probably doesn't want smaller games from them.

7 maybe, maybe could be viable but 6? It's IMO pretty much out of question when mocap alone takes 5 years. Making great games is something, that requires a ton of creative effort, it's not a fab where you'll enter new data and off you go.

Well, they certainly don't want that number to increase. It's a hypothetical scenario anyway. Streamlining development pipelines, making new tools, improving existing tools, utilising machine learning, expanding the studios, and what not could potentially bring that number down in a lot of ways. It's a tough ask, no two ways about it, but you can be sure that they're turning every stone so that it doesn't spiral out of control.

Watched bad boys last night for the first time in a long time and I forgot how cool that made a modern(ish) time period seem. Even though the early 2000’s was 20+ years ago, it’s still cool to see it depicted as being an active crime hub. Shows like csi Miami as well.

Hell yea I love that movie…. I always thought Martin Lawrence was hilarious, I enjoy just about anything he is in.

I don't think, they have anything they would want to announce in community update:

 

GTA TDE updates - shoved under a rug

GTA TDE mobile - development hell, someone may likely make sure, that it never gets out from it in that way or another

GTA Online - slowing down massively

I mean we know there's consumables in GTA VI much like RDR2, and in RDR2 you could "cook" at camp. Probably wouldn't be some super realistic depiction of actual cooking at, but I wouldn't be surprised if you were able to craft/cook consumables at safehouses.

Yes, in the U.S. that would probably be considered cybersquatting, and would likely end up in court.

I’m excited about the camp aspect from RDR 2, kinda like a “van life” parking it anywhere being able to use it as a safehouse in the wild. 

 

Hope they let us do that.

Same as any RPG, really. Which is what people want. And it's honestly not a bad thing to want more immersive options.
