know what, i see it being in the 80's for a prologue/flashback kind of narrative?

Possible, but I seriously doubt it. It could potentially cause even more uproar about how it would've been better if the entire game was set in the 80s instead of modern times.

I'd rather have an 80's set prequel expansion.

Pretty much. As Schreier said, the current game is still large by Rockstar's standards, and at this point in time, they intend to build on it by adding actual cities and locations as map expansions post-launch. Most people don't even know that IV was supposed to include the entire State of Liberty, but that ended with just the city. That's just how it goes.

In reality term, it's unlikely to have any expansion in favour of the online mode, but if there was any expansion to the map it will be a much more smaller place and perform just like Perico.

Anyone remember some jokers posting the background of this page thinking it was some sort of reference to GTA VI because it was found on the R* website files? Looks like R*  finally fixed the music credits pages at some point so now you can finally see where it comes from, with proof, instead of word of mouth because they were broken at the time - the GTA VCS music credits page :prismkek:

Not really, especially if they intend to support the game for longer than 8-10 years again. A proper map expansion will keep it fresh for a long time. Cayo Perico was more like a trial run for what they're presumably trying to do with VI. And any map expansion they make will be implemented in online mode, so I don't get what favour you're talking about. They might not add it in story mode, but online, there's no way they wouldn't add it.

I'd love to see one, but I guess whatever story, map expansion they might make will have to maintain consistency with GTAO, which will be set in the present, so there's practically zero chance of them going back.

Speaking of Vice City and Vice City Stories it’s a shame Lazlow parted ways (personal reasons which definitely is fine) but if Rockstar were to bring back V-Rock imagine a Couzin Ed cameo too

Couzin Ed: “Lazlow sucks! I love sluts!”

Always loved the humorous jabs between the two lol

It's doable. GTA ONline would just incorporate a dripfeed of "classic" cars, weapons and maybe some clothes.

There's just no way they'll go through the effort to make a campaign that requires a new map (even if it's comparatively smaller-scaled) that they can't properly incorporate into online for just a mere expansion. Not when they'll be working on their future projects at that time as well. Classic cars, weapons, clothes aren't going to cut it. They can add those without even making any expansion.

I believe their post-launch support for VI will be closely related to online, one way or another.

I was thinking about the first part set in the 80s and second in modern day America. Obviously 80s and modern day would have different protagonists, but they could be related to each other. Kinda like they made RDR2 set in 1899 and 1907. Obviously, changes in RDR map are pretty small, Vice City in 1986 and 2022 would be totally different.

We've already seen the game is modern day, don't know why the 80s is still being brought up.

The amount of effort it would take to include the 80s and modern day in the game is insane. The most we'll get is a mission similar to the GTAV prologue.

The bolded part is the biggest problem with that concept. It's significantly harder to pull off the 1980s and 2020s in the same game than 1899 and 1907, and even more so to pull off at the level of detail and density Rockstar shoots for.

Everything from map layout, buildings, player interactions, pedestrian dialogue, models, vehicles, radio, etc. will have to be completely different, which is basically like making two games at once. Unless they're willing to spend 8-10 years of full development (not including pre-production) on a single game, it's never going to happen anytime soon.

The prologue in V was justified because it was where all the tension between Trevor and Michael came from. We don't know the plot of VI yet, but what would they go back to the 80s? The protagonists seem to be 90s kids. I don't see a prologue going back more than a couple of years.

Because modern day Miami is not as interesting as it used to be in the 80s, escpecially if we think about crime. Besides, 80s nostalgia and original Vice City vibes are something that many of us love.

Yes, in the leaked footage we've seen modern day setting. But what if that pre-reboot game/story was actually reworked and finished and final game is set in the past and present day? It's not very likely scenario, but at least I hope they will release some story DLC set in the times of cocaine cowboys.

It's not just not very likely, it's nearly impossible. The amount of work it would take to make a significant map with the detail R* wants for their next record shattering GTA would be insane. There's a 40 year gap between the two time periods, you'd need different buildings, different roads, different clothes and NPC styles, a different set of cars, a separate radio, billboards/posters all over the city would be different, and so many other things that would take a long time to make.

Like I said, the most we will get with the 80s is a prologue type deal or maybe a flashback mission in a small part of the map.

True, it would be pretty hard task. But if I'm correct few years ago Rockstar registered their own patent for a "world changing over time" mechanics, maybe this is the tool that would help them creating two different settings? For example, it will make certain buildings, cars and objects look older automatically, while the rest of the world will be reworked manually (plus map changes like new buildings, streets, etc.). Keep in mind that I'm not a game designer, so I might be wrong.

The only reason I see them even bringing up the 80s in VI is to pacify the "Vice City 80s" people.

You can already play 80s Vice City. Just download a Graphics Mod for GTA VC, and there you go :kekw:

I think people are jumping the gun with saying VC can't be as interesting in modern day as it is in the 80s.

In a context of one mission ,  a prologue or even a mini chapter is very much possible.

To me, that sounded like world changes along the lines of things seen in RDR2 (like houses being built over time) and probably some more complicated interactions that the player can influence directly.

It's certainly not related to having 80s and 2020s in the same game.

Oh, sorry. I should clarify: I meant in the same map/city. Like TLaD & TBoGT. Just Vice City & Florida, but set in the 80's.

I've seen this before and I was thinking that the choices we make in the 80s part of the game will reflect on how the city will look like in modern day VC. But it can also be applied to present day setting. I guess we just have to wait and see...
