Also just seen TT and Rockstar are laying off staff as part of a cost reduction program. GTA ALONE has made about $8bn. f*ck them both. Soulless, scummy companies.

They're specifically talking about Rockstar there. Mafia is not developed by Rockstar.

It's T2 that has talked about cost saving measures, not T2 AND Rockstar (T2 owns R* and they were talking about the collective T2...) and Strauss has said they're not layoffs to IGN, although that's laced with corpo speech. Take-Two have never touched their money-making machines such as Rockstar and the bigger 2K Sports studios in other economic situations that caused layoffs. I'm assuming if anything happens it will be to the smaller guys like Private Division, Hangar 13 (which has already had layoffs), outsource support, etc.

 

Let's not pretend the tech sector is unfortunately not getting lay-offs all across unfortunately, after the massive hiring storms during the pandemic.

Many companies have been on this recently, it's not just TTWO or Rockstar.

Yup, just today I read, that Dell is about to lay off 5% of their staff. To be honest It's not just tech companies getting affected with this, it's spreading.

I'm concerned about GTA VI post content. It will be a wasted potential like RDO but in a different way if the next Online version will get such small content like GTAO. The Witcher 3 + it's DLCs has more content than GTA V/Online at the same time. (I know Witcher is a RPG title, but still)

Take-Two published Mafia just like they did GTA, Hangar13/2K is under the Take-Two umbrella as well. They're talking about the titles they publish, not specifically Rockstars titles. They're just commending Rockstar for making another hit besides GTA as RDR is the only biggest hit franchise besides GTA under Take-Two

 

 

Edit: If "their releases" means R* then that's some horrible wording. I took it as "their" as in "Take-Two"

Yeah it was TT. Still awful considering what CEO's etc will earn. Microsoft have just announced similar in the midst of a multi-billion dollar proposed buyout of Activision. You couldn't write it. Hopefully those losing jobs will find employment elsewhere. Times are tough.

for online at least, I doubt there’s anything to worry about. When they f*cked up RDO there was GTAO to fall back on. GTAO2 is going to replace GTAO eventually, they cannot afford to let it fail.

Most likely, they'll remaster IV and RDR1, port RDR2 to current-gen consoles while their core team works on VI's post-lauch support and RD3.

I could see R* publishing and helping out with the development of games from other developers, like what they did with the first two Max Paynes (developed by Remedy) and LA Noire (developed by Team Bondi), which allows them to focus on RDR and GTA while also releasing other games. They're currently doing this right now with Remedy, who are working on remakes of the first two Max Payne games.

It's possible. Rockstar did work with Video Games Deluxe (which essentially is Team Bondi 2.0) for L.A. Noire's PS4/XOne and VR ports. I believe that the Noire's writer/director, Brendan McNamara, is still the boss there. They were hiring for another VR project for Rockstar as of mid-2020, which could be the San Andreas VR port, but that seems to be in limbo now.

 

Honestly, I'd love to see a sequel/reboot of L.A. Noire developed on the RAGE (engine), set in 70s New York or 60s San Francisco or wherever. McNamara could lead that project with Rockstar's assistance. The downsides are that VGD is way too small for a brand-new AAA project; they'd need to hire like crazy for that, and Rockstar wouldn't let a third-party studio work with RAGE. Alternatively, they could simply allow them to work on whatever engine they want (similar to Remedy's Max Payne remakes), but again, they'd still need to hire a large number of people for that to happen.

I am scratching my head till this day whenever I think how the f*ck they are planning to make San Andreas a VR Game that will run on a potato.

I would not mind if red dead online gets updates again, the definitive trilogy gets fixed and maybe a smaller game comes out between these 5 years
