To be fair they didn’t say “later this year” or “soon” or anything like that last year, they simply said “when we are ready” if I remember correctly, so they did it to address that the game exists and calm the fans down a little bit while they work on it.

Also do you actually believe the next effin' Grand Theft Auto game is getting revealed in some freaking Q&A article? And with 2 SCREENSHOTS?! after we saw 90 clips of the game last September?! That's how you think they are doing this? Come on now lool

As I said last night I have a feeling the current community would be doing IRL protests if the GTAV info drought was a thing nowadays  8 months from trailer to the first screenshots, then they told us info in a "few weeks or so" and it was a bunch more months. Luckily after that it was full steam ahead... except a delay in Feb 2013.

 

The community was already riled up enough here when that was happening. Even with screenshots and trailers to analyse there was an entire thread of bitching about the drought lol.

Yeah, GTA V was 1. replaced the entire website with the GTA V logo, tweeted #GTAV then a trailer date for Nov 2nd 2011.

Which kinda says a lot about these fans who couldn't figure out for themselves that Rockstar isn't exactly paying more than 2000 devs around the world to just sit there and do nothing.

Indeed, though for screenshots they can always just have an article dedicated to them, like they did for both GTA V and RDR2. GTA V had a week of screenshots, where they released 4 or so screens per theme - Business, Leisure, etc... Good times.

It's a vicious cycle, though. People are mad because they don't communicate. They don't communicate because people get mad. I don't see the point in not doing something becuase of the bad things some people will do. But rather, do good things for the good people and just "accept"* the bad that comes with it. We all agree Rockstar have terrible communication and need to "get with the times" and be more like other modern devs. The faceless mysterious Rockstar era has passed, and it's just tiresome and irritating, at this point.

 

*= This doesn't mean we should condone the bad stuff. Just meaning it's unavoidable and unpreventable, so you just have to get on with it and accept that it's going to happen no matter what.

Exactly why I've focused more on some indie game communities on social media recently - other than R* stuff ofc, although I've seen a few bigger indie companies get gamer'd in the past few months too... And it's even worse in that situation as sometimes there may not be a support network for (the) community manager(s) whatsoever, as they'd be a much smaller company.

Like Bethesda, who is still silent on Starfield even though it's supposedly coming out within 6 months?

Or Nintendo, who has given almost no info on any possible remasters, Metroid Prime 4, or even Zelda, that has a release date in May?

They could simply say, that they don't have anything more to announce that year, wouldn't hurt them at all. I'm sorry but I find making your fanbase hang for a year to be a little bit insulting. They make absolutely the best games but their communication with fans practices are absolutely some of the worst.

The same Bethesda who announced their next 3 games at the same time, almost 5 years ago? And who openly support modding and promote them and have a community manager and regularly communicate with their fans, but just aren't ready to give a release date for Starfield, even though we've seen multiple trailers and gameplay? Well said. I don't understand why they put on this whole 'mysterious' act - it's not cool anymore. The least you can do is have communication with the people who literally make you money.

I know what you mean....

At least the communities there are friendly and we all have a banter, sharing the love of the game.  It's just a shame some of these games don't get more spotlight sometimes, they can really deserve it.
