GTA 6 Speculation & Discussion [Part 8] - The Rabbit Hole

I just found a guy who told me that he was disappointed that GTAVI will release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, not because he wanted to have it on PS4 and Xbox One, but because he wants to see the game on PS6 and the next Xbox. He is convinced that GTAVI will release at the very end of the generation when the future consoles will be released and that therefore it would be better if Rockstar developed GTAVI on PS6 and the next Xbox. 
 

I swear the amount of idiocy I have seen in this fanbase has been rampant these last few years.

Regardless of whether we get anything tomorrow or not, it will still mark 12 months since Rockstar announced the game.

 

For them to go over a year to tell us anything more, in my eyes is treating your customer base poorly.

 

It's certainly their decision, but I think it instills displeasure amongst the community.

You didn't even saw the other sites, there was the one that took the tweet from GTA VI Leaks account that originally got taken from Tez tweet with only difference was that the GTA VI Leaks account added some armchair developer discord post to back their theory that it's already finished (additionally theory was that what we saw on the leaks was testing build from early 2021 just tested in chronological order) and being polished.

I saw plenty of pools on YouTube while scrolling through recommended videos on my phone and amongst choices like 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2025 and later people choosen 2025 and later... and that was announcment, not release. People not interested in topic just think that way for some reason.

Rockstar's marketing strategy is basically a slow burn build-up with bursts of info here and there until the last few months when all floodgates open. It lets them precisely curate the narrative around the game with each step. In the meantime, the community takes care of itself.

You don't have to like their approach, but it's undeniably very effective. Their tweets about the next GTA becoming the most and second-most liked tweets in gaming history without even a name reveal, let alone a logo or screenshot, are proof enough. I doubt the leak changed their attitude towards marketing at all, although it might make them reconsider the content of the trailers.

No one promised you a thing, nor you're owed anything - a time frame or otherwise, not to mention there was an unprecedented event that probably changed some initial marketing plans. The game wasn't even officially announced for people to be expecting anything for sure. I swear that some of you would have literally died in the GTA V info drought, when we did get told there'd be more information in a few weeks and we got it months later. Multiple times.

 

At this point if you wanna bitch about something at least do it in the right topic.

 

All things considered this really is bringing me back to the days of GTA V, people were expectant EVERY WEDNESDAY (including youngin' me at the time) because that was usually when R* posted news at the time.  People are gonna be angry if we get nothing tomorrow, or a GTA Online related article, or a recap email, or something else random, even though there was never a sign we'd get anything other than made-up expectations. The usual cycle.

We're not even going to see those consoles until 2030 most likely. We're 2 years into the generation and we have few games that aren't cross gen with last gen.

Last gen lasted 7 or 8 years, so I see no reason why this one won't last a nice even 10. And 2030 is a nice round futuristic number that might be good for marketing purposes.

With the long ass time games take now due to them being so much more expansive and complex, I don't think this is unreasonable.

And we know in any case, that GTA6 will arrive on that gen too with enhancements, especially if their latest engine is more versatile.

 

On another note, I also think that the 2030 gen will be the last of dedicated hardware. I think 2040 and beyond (and I wouldn't be surprised if sooner) everyone will have either their own streaming service, or dedicated store, that can be accessed anywhere at any time. You already see it happening today, so I think there's a good chance in that long of a time period, with dedicated console hardware going away.

I can’t blame people for expecting a 2025 or later announcement. Rockstar hasn’t really shown any initiative or desire to drum up anticipation for a new game: their in a weird spot right now in between developing a new game and ending active support for their current one.

No. The teapot got access, allegedly, to their Slack chat servers, which would mean multiple devs posting things - although it seemed to be mostly focused on locomotion and similar.

Nah. That was pretty standard stuff. What's actually ridiculous is that there are a few obviously fake VI gameplay trailers that have more views than RDR2's official gameplay trailer. There are people who unironically take them at face value.

I really hope for the 6 star to come back for gta 6. After seeing the clip where jason and lucia try to escape the cops and the 5 star wanted level ui shows up which I dont like. Then again the videos are from 2021 (I think) so it may change.

I didn't say I was promised or owed anything, merely gave an opinion about the timeframe in which we haven't had any follow up information. Not even really bitching or moaning about it to be fair?

 

You keep saying the GTA V info drought was like the worst thing ever, yet there was 5 years between the actual release of GTAIV and GTAV, whereas, we are now into year 10 between V and VI, and are probably at least 18 months away from release.

I'd say that drought is probably longer no?
