I'd say GTAV > RDR2 as the best open world game. RDR2's world is pretty, but it lacks things to do.

so its happening then?

Maybe, I don't really trust those earlier months of the year for something as big as a trailer though, so look out for august or november.

Honestly while the China social media thing is interesting it might be them just getting personnel in their T2 marketing offices in Asia to do this stuff, and permission to expand their marketing efforts to China. GTAV used to be a banned search word on Bilibili and now it no longer is, GTAO has celebrated Lunar New Year, etc. etc.

Interesting, but not necessarily a sign of GTA VI :prismkek:

Oh boy, I hope you haven't started a war there, but there are some things that GTA 5 does better indeed, such as tracking all random events we completed and such, it's not a bad game, we're just fed up with it after a decade, which is why I'll treat GTA 6 as the last GTA game, so I won't be mad with it after a decade too.

More than likely, I feel there will be 2 types of benchmark open worlds that comes down to personal preference.

RDR 2 is that slower pace western world with less of a dense civilisation and is more wilderness focused, whereas GTAVI will be the faster pace more focused on dense modern civilisation.

In terms of probably immersion and realism in an open world it will definitely be the new benchmark over RDR 2.

That's what I like to hear, tbh I'm kinda tired of RDR2's slow pace after almost 5 years already, I want something a little more thrilling and the modern days setting will help with this.

Why? GTA 4 was kinda slow paced too and it was great, i don’t understand the need of a fast kinda storyline

The slow pace that I was referring to was not a lot of things going on if that makes sense. So like movement is slower your transport is a horse or wagons/cart your weapons are slower, the world is just slower due to the time period. GTA has fast cars, fast guns, the world moves faster it doesn't have anything to do with the pacing of the story.

Some people just prefer modern settings over older time periods.

Rdr2’s would had depth while V is VERY shallow, even compared to older titles in the series. V is great by average AAA standards, but far from rockstars own standards. Than can an have done better. I’m convinced VI will be the best game they’ve ever made, top to bottom

I don't think GTA 5 is "far" from Rockstar Games standards, they just had a very ambitious vision for it and then realized that the 360/PS3 couldn't handle all that, that's why they ended up cutting a lot of corners which resulted in the game not feeling as complete as it should've been, if you search for beta screenshots or something similar you'll see that even the city of Los Santos was way more lively with lots of trees and foliage which had to be cut to run properly on its first systems.

No every game needs to be deep or serious. A lighter tone is sometimes welcome, as it was with V. I liked it, and I wouldn't mind if VI followed the same trend.

Somewhere between GTA 4's darker and GTA 5's lighter tones would please both sides of the community, which is something that should also be applied to the vehicles handling.

A lighter tone is fine, but by lack of depth we mean the world and it’s contents, including activities among other things.

Of course they had an ambitious vision, but cutting corners to get it on that generation resulted in a watered down product. Still great but it’s apparent there’s more that was intended to be fleshed out.

Honestly as long as GTAVI can be a hybrid of RDR 2's immersion, realism, world building, and story telling while putting that with the GTA DNA in a modern setting nothing could compete with it.

And that's exactly why they decided to skip the XB1/PS4 gen and only release GTA 6 now, by learning with GTA 5's mistakes, the main one was the lack of horsepower to handle what they wanted it to be originally.

V was just as bleak as IV, if not more so, just told with more colour on the surface. Even then, they're not at all trying to hit the same wavelengths, and I expect VI to be wholly its own thing as well, just like all the other mainline GTAs before.

In terms of The leak the earliest footage is dated March 2021 right?

Maybe, what makes GTA 5 feels lighter is the heavy usage of unnecessary jokes on its world as a whole, that's why I'm happy to learn that they'll tone them down to some extent.

Nah. If R* could've pushed VI out by 2020, it would've absolutely been a PS4/XOne game, but that was impossible due to current AAA development times, and frankly, they didn't need VI at that point as GTAV/O was doing more than fine.

Nothing about V was a mistake. It was always going to be a PS3/360 title, so working around technical limitations was a conscious decision. From their point of view, V is a miraculous achievement. Not a single game could fully outdo it in 10 years, except their own RDR2, which is a completely different kind of game anyway.

V was too over the top comical and as a result the story felt flat/uninspiring and I had a hard time caring about any of the characters. I hope VI has a more serious storyline like IV and RDR 2.

How would they release GTA 6 for the XB1/PS4 on 2020 if its development reportedly started near RDR2's release on 2018 after it got rebooted? Now this would be some kinda miracle.

Keep in mind that the report said they were trying to erode out specific jokes that they perceive to be punching down minorities and all. Nothing about jokes or the tone of the game in general. I expect VI to be it's own thing regardless.

I don't think anything was unnecessary in V at all. It's almost a pitch-perfect satirically distorted portrait of modern Southern California, and it's superficiality with a touch of grotesqueness.

While I agree the story fell flat in some aspects it was still an all round good story.

I think the "over the top comical" decision was made because of the location of where the game was set, if you look back at all the GTA entries they really emphasise the tone/story of the game based on the setting. So it'll be interesting to see what tone/story is decided on for GTAVI being in a modern day version of Vice City.

I agree VI will probably be R*'s best game ever, probably for the next 20 years until VII comes out.

It's best for GTA 6 to be its own thing regardless, I don't want a game to make me cry like RDR2 again but at least get a little more serious.
