Yeah, E3 is definitely dead at this point. Also, Rockstar never really attended those anyway, right?

 

But yeah, E3 isn't needed anymore. Companies just host their own showcases. Luckily, they still tend to do it around Summer, which I love. I always looked forward to Summer because of E3 in the past.

I feel like Rockstar's always been above E3, they could tweet "GTA VI" and it'd break the internet lol doubt they'd rely on E3 to announce anything relevant.

ps4/xboxone/pc announcement also can count but that's not a new game.

R* never announced any brand new game at E3 except for GTAIII. Ports and remasters, sure, due to marketing deals and always at other publishers' booths. GTAIV was the only exception, and that happened due to R*'s exclusive deal with Microsoft. Even then, they didn't show a trailer that day. Just the logo, which wasn't even fully finalised.

 

Sam is correct. Those kinds of shows are indeed a sort of willy-waving exercise.

Somebody would notice Sam Houser attending the show before a major show like E3 even starts. That's one factor Rockstar could be considering.

That's what I am expecting, what I would want is Las Venturas.

 

I expect Liberty City as a expansion for GTA 6 and nothing more than that, GTA 7 has to be either on a location which still don't have its HD version or on a brand new location.

Don't know what specific events but R* have attended them in the past privately, as there's often a private section of these events where devs/pubs will show games to press for early impressions, with no reporting on anything on it. There's old stories of people spotting RDR2 through a door way, R* logo's on the doors, etc.

 

As for E3, I mean, it's dead. It's a shame cause I always enjoyed that week of gaming news/videos/announcements/etc but yea, a mix of covid, Geoff Keighley and the success of self-hosted events done outside the typical E3 period have basically killed it now. They're trying to bring it back this year but they have no MS, Sony or Nintendo and I doubt EA or Ubi want to headline an E3, especially as they usually do their own thing now anyway.

 

Not that it matters, as we'd never get a GTA VI reveal at any event.
